They made a fake set to hide the outcome of the war on Mirrodin, why wouldn't they make a fake block for a survey?
Because, again, Mirrodin Pure was designed as part of a marketing campaign. It was meant to be seen by the public as a possible outcome. It was a one-time gimmic. Again, it's a very different situation that has nothing to do with whatever Atlazan is. They put a lot of resources into creating all of the Mirrodin Pure stuff because it was ultimately for the purposes of selling New Phyrexia, which would make their money back easily.
These packs were not meant to be seen by the public. They were private information. I'm not saying that they are from a real set, but I am saying that creating a world, a name, an aesthetic design, and commissioning art all takes a LOT of time and resources. I doubt that they would put that much effort into something whose sole purpose is survey fodder.
I think it is very likely that Atlazan is probably the current, unconfirmed name of a world that is currently in the works and they just chose that world as something to use for that survey. Additionally, the fact that they chose that world with art that's already been commissioned and packaging with a very distinct artistic style seems to imply that it's fairly far in the R&D process. I would guess that we'll learn about this world within the next year or so.
#3, very, very, VERY Boros-looking lady (that may even be the Boros guild emblem on her chest, I can't tell).
Uh...that woman looks so Mayan-inspired, it's almost ridiculous. You think just because she's wearing armor with a red and white color scheme that she's Boros Ravnican? Look at her facial features. Look at the textures and designs of her headdress and armor. They SCREAM Mesoamerican.

They make art all the time that doesn't get sold in the form of cards. They have so much unused art, especially just for Magic stories. And this image isn't private, the person who discovered it said they got it in a survey. Wizards did say on their twitter account that it did in fact come from them, and that they were looking for feedback on design concepts.
This... Literally has nothing to do with the thread. This is some dude's blog for a DnD setting that it looks like he made up that happens to share a name with this potential new block.
Also, flat out claiming that "this is fake" with nothing to back it up when we know that these images did come from WOTC is the definition of talking out of the side of your neck.

You need to read my other posts. Just because they came from Wizards doesn't mean they're real sets. If you read the tweet, they say the image did in fact come from them but they were used to solicit feedback on pack design concepts. It's very easy for them to make up an image for a set that doesn't exist. Wizards has tons of unused art. Especially for Magic stories on their site.
Vraska left Ravnica and it was noticed she disappeared in to a void. Fast forward we find out Nicol Bolas is once again meddling in peoples affairs for unknown reasons, we still have yet to find out why he wanted to release Emrakul and the rest of the Eldrazi. After Nicol Bolas' defeat at the hands of the planeswalkers in Hour of Devestation, our group of adventurers find out what Bolas' plan this whole time was to get back to Dominaria, believing that releasing the titans would weaken the separation in the multiverse. He was slightly correct, however it was a small hole and Vraska found it first. Vraska is now on Otaria, an island continent on Dominaria where she finds a group of Gorgons that she befriends, as well as a large diversified group of different creatures and beasts which came in to existence do to the Mirari. She's currently adding to her collection of petrified victims while looking for the Apocalypse Chime. Ajani finding out she planeswalked to Dominaria, and it being the first place he ever planeswalked to, also planeswalks there. The reason for his planeswalk is hidden for the time being. We will find out that Elspeth Tirel, while held captive by the Phyrexians as they invaded Dominaria, was able to planeswalk away from them during the period just before Yawgmoth was apparently killed by the Legacy Weapon. During the block we will see Sandruu as a planeswalker and will finally be introduced to Korlash, who will be very important to the future of magic the gathering.
The Merfolk from the Atlazan pack is from the same tribe as Gaea's Skyfolk. The Conquest of Power picture is a Zhalfir, a good example is Zhalfirin Crusader.
In the first set, we will find out something is going on with the Mer Empire, a dominant and powerful undersea power which holds main control over Otaria. In the 2nd set we will see once again, on a different plane though, that a group of people don't like who is in control and we'll see a battle for power.
This set is intended as a break from the current storyline, as almost nothing in the block will have to do with anything outside of the block. We will finally see the return of squirrels and slivers in this block, though we will only get 2 cards that create squirrels. And obviously a return to Dominaria will be much applauded as people have been asking for it forever. However the directions Wizards has taken with the set will have some old flavor, but will feel largely like the most recent blocks of magic with Ravnica type artwork styled from old Dominaria artwork.
I'm not sure it would be an Atlantis inspired set since Atlazan is inspired by "Aztlán" which is the ancestral home of the Aztecs. Aztecah is the Nahuatl word for "people from Aztlán". Hopefully we'll get some awesome art inspired by Mesoamerican cultures (I really love the idea!).
Right after Nicol Bolas, too.
This is going to be a great year.
Oh, and for people saying Atlazan is MTG Atlantis, check out the FTV Wrath of God. It confirms MTG's Atlantis is already conceptualized, and is named Olantin.
So it looks like an Aztec-inspired plane is our next stop after Amonkhet. Loving this ancient civilization inspired stuff.
I also do love the freaky sci-fi alien stuff in Phyrexians and Eldrazi, but this looks like a fresh change of scenery.
Heliod can't planeswalk. So he can only unleash his wrath on his homeplane (unless somehow he got moved to another plane). Therefore Olantin must be part of Theros. Someone who considers themselves good at logic please check my reasoning and correct me, if necesserary.
'^^
We know that Olantin is part of Theros, and the Atlantis trope was played out at least two times in Theros - with Olantin and with Arixmethes. Not to mention the Dominarian "Atlantis" (of Lord of Atlantis fame), that was a dry-walker corruption of the merfolk name of the Etlan-Shiis colony. No reason why there could not be a whole Atlantis inspired set.

Yeah, both Atlazan and Conquest of Power look like provisional names, and their logos also look like sketches. Anyway, it's pretty safe to say that's the plane we're visiting next year (although the names can still change). On the other hand, Amonkhet and Hour of Devastation designs look definitive to me.
Moreover, we get the art of Nicol Bolas, and also Ajani and Vraska (or at least hints of their presence).
Is it possible that all the arts are from Amonkhet block? It is resonable to expect Ajani and Vraska in the next block and it is maybe too early for Fall set packaging to show up on a poll
Is it possible that all the arts are from Amonkhet block? It is resonable to expect Ajani and Vraska in the next block and it is maybe too early for Fall set packaging to show up on a poll
No. Excluding planeswalkers, since they don't have to follow the planes aesthetics, the art style used for 'Atlazan' and 'Conquest of Power' are non-Egyptian looking. The arts used on Amonkhet and Hour of Devastation all have Egyptian aesthetics where everyone is wearing a noticeable amount of gold on them like we've seen about Amonket. I.e- Gold everywhere. The merfolk and woman in armor have no noticeable gold on them at all meaning they are not from Amonkhet.
The thing that doesn't make sense is why is there a survey about what the packaging looks like? They are showcasing the same packaging style they use now, they didn't change the orientation or shorten it or make it square or anything. Why ask anyone's opinion on it?

Atlazan's color theme resembles too much to that of Battle for Zendikar. makes you wonder
I noticed that, too. Moreover, that would mean three new worlds (Kaladesh, Amonkhet and this one) in a row, which is not impossible, but still unlikely. I'm not calling it necessarily a fake, though: it could be some kind of mockup of the packaging produced while working on a product still ahead on the schedule, and somehow come to the handa of a customer around the world... it's a long shot but still not impossible.
Agreed. I feel that after Kaladesh and Amonkhet blocks, a return is in order, probably Theros, maybe Ravnica 3.0 (cuz we're never gonna not return to the uber popular planes)

Either side you're on, this is going to turn into a "I told you so" when they eventually spill all the beans during the "Announcement Day" (if they're still sticking with that). It's like the C discussion when Kozilek got leaked all over again (just to brag I guessed right on that one...)
I'm personally inclined to believe that this is real, but perhaps not finalized. It's one thing to set up Mirrodin Pure and tell us later it was never meant to be, because it at least got people hyped during Mirrodin Besieged in terms of flavor. Being a survey and inherently not linked to Kaladesh nor Amonkhet, I don't see why so much resources would go into something that doesn't even provide returns in terms of marketing hype. WotC has to know that these images will reach us when they put them in the survey, so would it be better to give us a sneak preview, or would it be better for them to hype us for something that doesn't exist (that doesn't boost support of a current set)? At this point of time (especially after the Kozilek incident), I'm not buying "WotC doesn't expect people doing the survey not to show others these images".
Disclaimer that it's all still my point of view and I can be proven wrong directly by WotC when the time comes, but it's still my opinion as of current information (which is basically no information).
Because sadly for whatever reason, Ravnica is "popular" and we are doomed into having to keep enduring it. The place doesn't even have anything interesting going for it, IMO. Woo, guilds. I suppose Niv discovering planes walkers could be a thing, and there's Ral. IDK. But I suspect a third return there would happen before a second return anywhere else, even before a popular and loved plane like Theros. Sadly.
Maybe sadly for you, but it's popular for a reason. I'd say even though the last visit wasn't as good as the first, it was more popular than Theros.
Notice how Theros is below Ravnica. I mean, Kamigawa is third now that Innistrad has been returned to and Rosewater has vehemently opposed returning to Kamigawa, so this list may be a little off, but Theros is still down a ways. Elspeth is my favorite walker and the gods were an interesting concept so I want a return eventually, but I wasn't too thrilled with any of the mechanical content of the block during our last visit. I'd say Ravnica and Theros are about on par when it comes to storyline, but mechanically more people have liked Ravnica. I'm sure there's another Rosewater article somewhere that has these sentiments.
If it's Vraska, it would fit this leak from a long time ago:
I didn't read the whole thread, but how in any way would that being Vraska fit the senseless drivel from the first post? The 4chan "leak" got the names of both sets wrong, including the name of the plane. After Theros, anyone guessing an Egyptian plane would guess Gods, so that is hardly anything. The information from this leak lends itself to an entirely new plane called Atlazan, which is entirely different from a Return to Ravnica. Also, as mentioned, Vraska left Ravnica, and they kind of made a big deal of it in the storyline, which points to this not being Ravnica if it is Vraska, which actually kind of kills the similarities to the 4chan "leak" even more.
The moment I saw Atlazan it made me think of an Atlantis-based theme. But then a second glance at the packs got me thinking more of an Atlantis with a Mayan/Aztec theme mixed together.
Either way it's nice to be visiting new spots without convulsive returns to planes. Only thing I ask for: give us spanking new 'walkers!

IF this is real, and IF we assume a vraska appearance would set up Ravnica 3.0, that seems very off. Why would Theros not be revisited beforehand when we've set that return up more than any other world? Why would we return to Ravnica before Koth and Phyrexian conflict is resolved. I'm not sure if this is real or not, but 3 new sets in a row and Vraska and Ajani both showing up again seems oddly timed.
Again, no idea if this is even real, but timing would seem odd.
Because sadly for whatever reason, Ravnica is "popular" and we are doomed into having to keep enduring it. The place doesn't even have anything interesting going for it, IMO. Woo, guilds. I suppose Niv discovering planes walkers could be a thing, and there's Ral. IDK. Ravnica is the most popular and beloved plane in mtg history, rivaled only by Innistrad. Wotc would be brain damaged to not return to it. Besides its not like it would be overdone; assuming Atlazan for Fall 2017, Rav3 would be Spring 2018, thats a five and a half year gap at minimum.
Although your theros question brings up a point I an maro repeat every time someone demands a Return to kamigawa. Every time wotc does a return set they have to consciously chose NOT to do a new set or a return elsewhere instead. That means even though wotc COULD make a decent Kamigawa 2, why do that when there are a great many OTHER returns they could do instead that are far more beloved. The moment someone says "lets do kamigawa 2" they have to convince everyone else not to go back to Ravnica, theros, Tarkir,Kaladesh, dominaria alara, any highly demanded new world etc. instead
Its an 8 on the rabiah scale becasue its behind like every other plane in the "return line" except for like Ulgoth.
Its like wanting an mcu clone saga movie, sure SOME people liked it, but why handicap yourself when you could be working with material overwhelmingly loved instead of overwhelmingly hated .
1) As per WotC's twitter, above, this is from a survey about packaging design concepts, not actual packaging. That means that the set names may not necessarily be real names. (The art is, duh, real art.)
2) The art all looks very Ravnica-esque. #1, generic Simic guy. #2, Vraska. #3, very, very, VERY Boros-looking lady (that may even be the Boros guild emblem on her chest, I can't tell). #4... well, it's just Ajani, and that could mean anything.
3) WotC would have made a formal announcement, first. They run a tighter ship than this. (Either that, or a lot of people just got fired.)
And, IMO, "Atlazan" and "Conquest of Power" are both poor set names. Having two weird, non-English-language-inspired set names that begin with "A" on the shelf at Target at the same time would not be a great job by the marketing team. And "Conquest of Power" is just an ultra-bad, dorky, meaningless set name. My opinion about them being poor choices for names doesn't make them not real, but it makes me hope they're not.
For the record, I would love a Mesoamerican-themed plane, so I'm not hatering that idea. I just doubt this is it.
The survey was probs designed to iron out these very issues, which is why the names arent tm'd yet I guess. Feedback like this is what will probs lead them to the fibal names.
Also note the intense Aztec/Aquatic design in the art. Those are frikmin eagle warrior feathers and mayan sigils in the background with squid people and a name merged from atlantis and Aztlan.
These packs were not meant to be seen by the public. They were private information.
