Given these facts, and given that this is also a major mechanic of the set, my conclusion is that Yahenni will have an energy-based mechanic(s). Her card could be something like this:
Yahenni, the Aether Drainer 2BG
When ~ enters the battlefield, you get EEE. T: ~ deals 1 damage to target creature or PW an opponent controls. You get E. EE, T: Put a +1/+1 counter on ~.
At the beginning of your end step, you may pay EE. If you do not, put a -1/-1 counter on ~.
2/3
I like the idea of an energy-based legendary. However, this one seems more parasitic and dependent on other energy cards than I would like. Rosewater has said in the past that he wants to avoid energy being too parasitic, allowing cards to function without any other energy in the deck.

I can understand that, but they already have Lathnu Hellion, which is parasitic. And the concept behind Yahenni as a drainer is that without an influx of energy periodically, she will die. So the parasitic nature seems a flavorful win, even if it's not preferable for the energy mechanic in general. Besides, you don't even need energy to help her live, as you can just use +1/+1 counter mechanics to offset the -1/-1 counters. However, in thinking it over, you should only have to pay E to give her a counter rather than EE, because no one would choose to put a counter on her and tap her when the counter will just be taken away for the same amount of energy you paid to put it on. I'll go back and edit accordingly...
Why do people keep saying Yahenni should be a planeswalker?
Not every character needs to be a planeswalker.
(I might need to put that in my sig, what with how often I have to say it.)
Who said anything about should?
Some of us are just hoping because the mono black walkers available to us in EDH are few and far between choice-wise. The choices are between three different walkers and their different iterations: Liliana, Ob Nixilis or Sorin. And Sorin only has one iteration that is mono black. Therefore it would be nice to see another mono black walker.
Lathnu Hellion is hardly parasitic. Without other energy sources it's a two turn Ball Lightning variant. Its effect just becomes equivalent to Fading 1 or Vanishing 2.
If they go strictly by Lore, Yehenni will have a lifedrain effect being as he is becoming an unwitting Lifeforce vampire. I think as a character in the stories, he is by far the most interesting character. He wants to live and die like he is supposed to, but at the same time does not want leave as early as most aetherborn life so, he has developed his lifeforce abilities even though it wracks him with guilt.

Yea, those are MTG Bars. What can I say, I am a dork
I hope Yahenni's card shows that they don't want to take life. I think it's an interesting aspect to the character that they are a rare kind of Aetherborn and yet they don't actively pursue abusing that power. Of course, by the time the story is fleshed out perhaps Yahenni will fully embrace their ability to siphon life and that will be reflected on the card. Just hoping it's not a generic : deal x damage to target creature and Yahenni gets +X.
I suppose this is chance to finally get the WB "Exsanguinate on a stick" General I've been wanting for years,
but by this point, I know better than to get my hopes up.

as long as this agender character recurs, and I don't mean in a game mechanic sense, I'll be a happy camper.
In their first story appearance they indicated Yahenni had like 80 days left to live or something. Unless there turns out to be some sort of Aether-based miracle extending the Aetherborn's lifespans, I don't think Yahenni will appear again.

1. What does this desire have to do with Yahenni? Again, not every character needs to be a planeswalker. And Kaladesh's story is already saturated with 'walkers. We don't need to go shoehorning sparks into characters that don't need them. Wait for a block and character where it makes sense.
2. Don't complain too much; mono-black still has it better than mono-red.

Is it any more parasitic than my concept design of Yahenni? She dies to state-based actions after 3 of your end steps if you never pay any energy, which is similar in concept to Lathnu Hellion (who is sacrificed after one end step if no energy is paid), and can function without other energy cards in the deck. She even generates energy on her own. Having an untap mechanism would make it where she can pay her own energy cost and potentially even grow in size. So, while you didn't state that my concept is parasitic, I am confused why it would be considered any more parasitic than Lathnu Hellion.
