First, let's talk about the holiday promotion we're running starting November 26. If you visit a local store and purchase a booster display box of Kaladesh (MSRP: $143.64), you may also receive two bonus packs containing epic cards, while supplies last, so plan to pick this up ASAP.
These boosters will contain:
A premium card from a currently legal Standard set*, including Zendikar Expeditions and Kaladesh Inventions.
Two non-premium cards that are either rare or a mythic rare from a set currently legal in Standard* (Battle for Zendikar through Kaladesh).
*Cards from Oath of the Gatewatch and double-faced cards not included.
If you're not familiar with what a lot of those words mean, the short version is that these promotional boosters are meant to be special to players of all levels and interests. This is a promotion we've never tried before, and the packs may contain some of our rarest cards!
The curmudgeon in me feels like this is a cheap trick that we're going to see more and more of.
That said, if you were planning to buy a box anyway this is all upside, and I'm never going to complain about having more promos in circulation.
I think they are hitting the specials pretty hard lately to get people back into Standard as much as possible, after how much it was affected recently.
I'm guessing this means you could open a pack
with a foil Woodland Stream,
and nonfoil Ghirapur Orrery and Munda, Ambush Leader?
(and let's be realistic; that's far more likely than Gideon, Emrakul, and Liliana like they show on the promo image).
Momir Vig, Simic Visionary
Melek, Izzet Paragon
Oona, Queen of the Fae
Bruna, Light of Alabaster
Gisela, Blade of Goldnight
Rhys the Redeemed
Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord
Sen Triplets
The Mimeoplasm WUBRGSliver OverlordGRBUW WUBRGSliver Hivelord(Superfriends)GRBUW
Just to clarify, will these expeditions and artifacts be just as rare as before?
1 in 33 shot in these specific boosters, if I recall the numbers WOTC gave right.

My Commander decks:
Chandra, Torch of Defiance - Oops! All Chandras.
Prime Speaker Zegana - Draw for Power.
Pir & Toothy - Counterpalooza.
Arcades, the Strategist - Another Brick in the Wall.
Zacama, Primal Calamity - Calamity of Double Mana.
Edgar Markov - Vampires Don't Die.
Child of Alara - Dreamcrusher.
What the hell does it mean "may" contain holiday boosters? Either they all have the special packs or don't bother with the promotion... I understand taking a chance on a single pack, but I'm not going to buy a whole friggin' box on a CHANCE of getting something extra. What the hell is wizards thinking?????????

I think you may have misread something. the packs are shipped to the stores separately. the may is likely only meant in a "While supplies last" way. you can absolutely know if you're getting the bonus before buying the box.
Seems like they`re just going to keep dangling those masterpieces in front of us at any possible opportunity. Open any standard booster? Lottery. Buy a box? Lottery. Showdown? Lottery. Won an MTGO event? Treasure chest lottery.
I realize that the opportunity doesn`t actually cost us anything, but it`s still lottery driven marketing technique, and as a grown ass man I feel like my intelligence is being insulted. I just decided that enough is enough. I`m protesting. I don`t like masterpieces. If I want to pimp, I`m going to do it in any other manner than these manufactured collector`s items.

This exactly. That`s a likely pack. And when it happens, you might ask yourself if this super special pack worked as an incentive to buy the box you just bought, and if the answer is yes, you might feel duped. Nobody`s fault but your own, of course, but still, it`s going to play out like that a lot. If you truly were going to buy the box no matter what, it`s purely a bonus, and that`s cool and everything, but I don`t think anybody can look me straight in the eye and tell me that this won`t drive sales.

Generally, cracking a pack is a lottery. I mean, you're not promised any card, other than ratio between the rarities. That's especially true when buying a booster box (with showdown it's just a random reward) so you expect to participate in booster lottery anyways. Now you just have something extra.
Yeah, this. Magic has literally been a lottery since the dawn of Alpha. It wasn't until Tempest that they started selling specific cards (through precons.) I understand the critique, but there is this weird antipathy towards boosters, when they literally are the same as they ever was, just now with a higher chance of getting a valueable card (masterpieces + foils + mythic rares, etc.) This won't stop, as Wizard need novelty to keep the sales increasing.
As price support the boosters with rare/mythic and more promo cards are way way WAY more useful than normal boosters, as they throw away all the commons/uncommons anyway.
If you would simply get say 3 of these packs , its like 9 boosters worth of rares.
----
I could even see them giving these packs away for winners of tournaments instead of cash prices (especially in Germany cash prices are not allowed, gambling law etc. etc.).
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.
Well, after seeing a few of these get opened, it's not that great. The fact that the foil can be any janky common is really disappointing.
Don't get me wrong, free added value is always great. But that foil slot can really be a downer.
Still, if you want to get a box for someone for Christmas or whatever, it's better than getting nothing at all!

If you have to buy something to get something, it ain't free.
You're getting a few more spins at the roulette than you would have if you bought in last week. Calculate the value accordingly, but don't get fooled.
If they bring back the definition of mythic from Alara, and not the money-grabbing definition of today, I think it would make the standard world a bit more bearable.
Agreed 100% they shot themselves big time. Start putting value in Commons, Uncommons, Rares and you'll see people coming back. Reprint chase cards rather than only Demolish, Cancel, Naturalize.
And finally, stop doing Kicker variants. It's cheating.

Pretty much this. These are likely the same packs being used for the Standard Showdowns. I will say that the bit about the cards from OGW being excluded is bs, as my Showdown pack contained a foil Timber Gorge (the others were a Liliana, the Last Hope and Drogskol Cavalry)
