Well it still seems some don't realize the world isn't tailored around them.
Anyway, sweet reprint. I've never played with this before but it should be fun.
lol.
I'm sure group hug has it's supporters. Most people I've played with hate playing against it. Most games where I've played against hug, they just kingmake whoever is to their immediate left.
If Wotc wanted to support those players, this is clearly the place to do it. I wish it hadn't ALSO been in the same release as the "woo chaos anarchy randomness" deck, which is ALSO pretty stupid to play against and usually kingmakes someone else. Between the two of those, there's only 3 decks that are actually trying to play strategically. Which is sort of the point of magic, no? I mean, I get that it's a casual format, but I wish they could have spread out the, ahem, stupid decks. We haven't really gotten a non-strategic deck in 4 commander releases, and now it seems like we're getting 2 at once. I mean, we got occasional bones thrown to those types of players, but never an entire precon. que cera cera.
Having rarely played with the card prior, I actually thought this was new art for it. Turns out the new neo-modern frame just makes the color pop more.
"At the beginning of each players upkeep if another player controls more creatures than that player, he or she may reveal cards from the top of his or her library until he or she reveals a creature card. If he or she does, that player puts that card onto the battlefield and all other cards revealed this way into his or her graveyard."
Great reprint tho
Issue with that is it is functional errata. Currently, cards like leyline of sanctity turn off opponents oaths in vintage because it targets. obviously there are better sb options against it in vintage, but probably wasnt worth the vintage peeps complaining.

I'm curious why the clunky "chooses target player who [...] and is his or her opponent" wording is necessary though. Any rules gurus know of a functional difference between that and "chooses target opponent who [...]"?
EDIT: actually upon rereading, I'm fairly sure it's because that's the only way to make it clear it's the opponent of the current player, not the owner of the enchantment. Still, ugly.
Reread the card, it gives the person with the least creatures the free creature.
Noo.... I've been playing with this thing for 15+yrs now... trust me when I say so long as someone else at the table has more creatures than you, you can play the Oath Dance in your upkeep.
Nice reprint! I've seen it used in some odd Commander decks where the only creatures in the deck are Eternal Witness and Spike Weaver or something, with Gaea's Blessing too, so you need to hit their graveyard real quick or the game stalls in a hurry.

It's hilarious to watch them try to reword weird old cards like this. To be fair, the original wording was kind of a mess too.
When this card isn't broken, it's just dumb and crazy, but a lot of people like adding a bit of crazy to the game. I like the idea of seeing Oath at the kitchen table, as that's its true home, and this reprint makes that possible.
Anyway, sweet reprint. I've never played with this before but it should be fun.
