For WoTC to go forward with a gay couple as the face of a deck is great. And that they chose the Guardians of Meletis as that couple is cool too. Never would have thought this would happen, but I am happy it did. I wasn't planning on getting the non-black deck, but this changes things
I just hope that people are civil to any player that chooses the Guardians.

"Those characters are GAY I GOTTA HAVE IT OMG OMG OMG".
Guys, please. Seriously. If I said "I want this deck because it has a girl on it" I'd be insulted :^)
It's a hard life for straight men tbh. Anyway, not really. You'd just be a Vorthos
The joke is that I'm bi but whenever I go against token representation for the sake of it, I get downvoted (on Reddit) and called out. Oh well :^)
1. Who said it was a label? They're literally two gay lovers. It's their identity. And since it's representation for a minority group, it does matter. Just like powerful women depicted in Magic to represent women in active roles like men, for female (and male) players alike. Except there are many options for female commanders now, and this is certainly a first for gay men in MTG.
2. Well "for the sake of it" is a matter of opinion really, and more facts point to that not being the case with gay kings (Theros is Greek Mythology world where homosexual relationships are quite prominent, and a card depicting these characters was already released). If anything, WOTC waited for an appropriate time and setting to make the game feel inclusive while still staying true to source material and its own creative repertoire.
Did I miss something? I'm confused why one of these commanders is being called gay
All look pretty fun
One of the commanders has two male characters on it whom were referenced in guardians of Meletis as lovers. Aparently someone mentioned that the two characters are indeed the same as the ones depicated in Guardian in Meletis.
Damn she looks awesome (made me think of Brom's Mageta the Lion), helps me to stop mispronouncing her name "Sasuke" >____>
Yea, the art alone is awesome. Though I am not sure what world she comes from. I am thinking maybe Valla(a norse sort of world only seen in planechase IIRC), but I honestly have no clue.
As for pronucation, because I have played a good bit of the witcher series lately I can't help but read the name similar to how they pronounce Saskia the dragonslayer.

I debated on just sending you a PM on this, but decided on a regular post. I am posting this to be constructive, not judgmental or to instigate.
You may want to ween yourself off of using 'gay' as a negative, like implying a bad or unplayable commander is 'gay.' There are plenty of other ways to say that a card, person, or whatever you are talking about is not a good choice than to say that thing is 'gay.'

He was asking a question with the words that were being used. It was the appropriate way to field his curiosity.

In addition to being prejudiced and ignorant, your analogy is completely flawed and inapplicable on a number of different levels:
1) The reason why you're not excited about a card that "has a girl on it" is because there are COUNTLESS Magic the Gathering cards that depict women (the majority of whom are attractive women that have been objectified for the pleasure of a straight male audience) or heterosexual pairings, while this is literally THE FIRST AND ONLY TIME in Magic's twenty-something year history that openly/explicitly LGBT characters have appeared on a card. If we lived in a world that had this kind of representation for gay characters, people wouldn't be saying: "OMG OMG OMG."
2) Given that this level of visibility for gay relationships in popular culture was very difficult to imagine even just 10 years ago, WotC's decision to showcase a gay relationship not only on one of their cards but on the front of their product is a very big deal to a large community that has been long relegated to invisibility or, at best, the sidelines. This is particularly relevant to genre fiction and gaming, which have an especially significant lack of gay representation despite tending towards large LGBT fanbases.
3) Moreover, the fan desire to support gay characters is also a way that fans can explicitly financially support WotC's decision to be more representationally inclusive. Since a huge proportion of MTG product packaging depicts beautiful and/or sexualized women in the cover art, purchasing any single one of those does not in any way send some kind of equivalent message to WotC for straight relationships.
Please think through your comments or educate yourself before embarrassing yourself in this bigoted manner again.
For me, although I didn't realize it having the Guardians as a Commander is really nice. It actually brightened my day a bit. Everyone places value on things in different ways, and while representation hasn't been a big thing for me it still makes me very happy to know they're getting a card. No need to try and rain on others parade just because that card doesn't speak to you, just enjoy the cards that do.

Excuse me?
Maybe that's how you're taking it, but I'm simply asking because I don't understand the homosexuality of the card at question. I'm not trying to be insulting at all. If you feel offended by me asking why a magic card is being called gay then you need to take a step back and realize not everyone is out to bash homosexuals. I just didn't get the reference.
Sexual nature aside, I like what the card does. Seems pretty huggy.
Yeah that was just a total miss, but points aside (Truth projecting, mainly. and now this) Let's just move on and discuss the cards????????/???
Love the huggy gays. It'll be interesting to see how red fits into the deck. And as for Sasika, I was hoping for a little more. Her ability is almost like double strike, right?

The difference is that there are tons of women commanders and these two are the first gay male commander duo.

Also here is a clearer and bigger image of just the art for Sasika, which Magic Spoilers says is Sasika the Unyeilding(not Undaunted)

It's also the been the consistent theme to put couples on the same card.
