while this is literally THE FIRST AND ONLY TIME in Magic's twenty-something year history that openly/explicitly LGBT characters have appeared on a card.
The Meletis kings is hard to read but it's definetly beginning of something.... each player may put something from their hand. Given that it's a group hug theme that doesn't surprise me.
Now for the ogre wizard... that's a lot of text. I think I see some ( ) so maybe cascade?

To the people that say that a card needs to be a higher rarity because of Limited... I hate you guys so much. I present to you with this.

Definitely looks like Trample, and whenever ~ deals combat damage to a player, (something something) followed by a ton of reminder text.
Love Saskia, it's exactly the commander you want for 'that' guy on the table. You know the one, the person with the esper control deck and a million ghostly prison and propaganda effects.
I pray to the gods in the machine that the artifact dude is good. If it's just make thopters and sac artifacts for some mediocre effects then that's not what I had in mind at all.
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.

As "that guy" I dislike this commander. Not biased at all.
Did I miss something? I'm confused why one of these commanders is being called gay
All look pretty fun
I debated on just sending you a PM on this, but decided on a regular post. I am posting this to be constructive, not judgmental or to instigate.
You may want to ween yourself off of using 'gay' as a negative, like implying a bad or unplayable commander is 'gay.' There are plenty of other ways to say that a card, person, or whatever you are talking about is not a good choice than to say that thing is 'gay.'
Excuse me?
Maybe that's how you're taking it, but I'm simply asking because I don't understand the homosexuality of the card at question. I'm not trying to be insulting at all. If you feel offended by me asking why a magic card is being called gay then you need to take a step back and realize not everyone is out to bash homosexuals. I just didn't get the reference.
Sexual nature aside, I like what the card does. Seems pretty huggy.
Gotcha, I understand where you're coming from now. Didn't realize you were asking about the card specifically.
I have had to deal with the whole 'this card is so gay.' situation a lot, and with all the other games I play. That's where I was coming from with this.
But back to the card, yeah, seams fun and will def try it out.

You play pillowfort decks but you hate grouphug decks?

Group hug takes away my ability to deny everyone else the ability to play. I don't find that fun.
Not as far as I'm aware. It's more a general mockup based on what we can decipher, though it's likely that she's a Soldier or Warrior, and I can dream that she'd be a barbarian.

It would make flavor sense if she was a barbarian. She is from Baldovain(sp) time and that has loads of barbarian themes.
But solider and warrior have better game synergy.

I'm assuming that the "Gay Kings" are some sort of Therosian monarchs from the tragedies of old. I'm a bit surprised to see them being refered to as "the gay kings", though. Do they not have names? Are they references to in any cards or published stories?
They originally appeared on the card Guardians of Meletis. At the time they didn't have names, and were kind of a minor reference. This is the first time they've shown up as characters.
That's interesting, I didn't even consider what plane she could be from... They did say that the front face cards are from "known" worlds, right?
I think they said that the characters would be new but their planes would not be. Of course, I am still not sure where she could be from. She feels like Valla would make the most sense, and we have seen Valla before principally in planechase, but I don't know really where she could be from. Any lore gurus who might have a better idea. .

I personally think she is either a warrior or a barbarian over Soldier.
I'm overall excited about these cards, and partner seems super interesting. On the other hand...
1 "random and wacky!" deck - dumb
1 group hug deck - cancer
1 aggro deck - always bad
which sorta leaves us with 2 "real" decks. So I don't hold a TON of a hope for the decks themselves being fun to play. And at least 3/5 of the 4-color commanders seem...not great, if we're reading them accurately. I guess the cascade one is probably decent but I personally dislike cascade as a mechanic, as someone who prefers to play a calculated game.
Reminder that this thread is about what we believe the Commanders' abilities to be. Discussions about representation should be posted in Magic General. Keep it civil people.
Edit: Additionally, please refer to the Something and Something of Meletis as something more appropriate than "the gay kings" (such as "the Guardians", or "the kings") because "the gay kings" whilst apt can be taken negatively in the wrong context. Thanks. - cryogen
Barbarian is no longer a supported creature type. The last one printed was way back in 9th edition. Cards that are portrayed as barbaric are usually warriors or berserkers.
But I liked calling them " The Gay Kings". They're like the Latin Kings, except they deal out hugs and free love rather than death and the harsh realities of the street.
But yeah, narrowing the spectrum of discussion on that one sounds like a good idea; it was getting wildly out of hand on all sides.
Edit: Their names are Kynaios and Tiro, by the way.
MaRo often talks about how they took away from Theros all the Roman elements present in Greek culture so they could do a Roman Plane in the future. Could Saskia be from that plane? Her armor resembles a roman leather armor

Check out the thread for my cube if you have the time, and tell me how terrible it is.
Generals meant to be drafted first in a single pack of 6 cards.
And here is the actual cube, meant to be drafted in 4 regular sized packs. (60 card decks)
I was on the fence about these commander decks, but seeing Saskia has really made me tempted to get the non-blue one when it comes out. Just the sort of card I like playing with.
I just really want to see the other partner commanders first, as I might just try to get the ones of them I want. Either to build a double-commander Jund or Mardu deck.

I really hope other cards from that deck are targeted/political/asymmetrical (i.e. phelddagrif, nullmage advocate) and not symmetrical (i.e. font of mythos, heartbeat of spring, mana flare). Symmetrical group hug is the WORST.
But hey, cross fingers that last line has some hidden bit that lets you control the huggy BS.
