In what universe? If you build a deck like that, and ever draw that hand, I will personally come to wherever you live, perform complicated acts of awestruck ********, then disembowel myself to escape the world that allowed something like this to occur and validate you.
Skywhale coming to limited near you. Only 4 mana for 4 flying power at uncommon? hot diggity. There have been a considerable amount of 3 power (usually 3/3 like stronghold zeppelin) for that cost and similar drawback, but this is a biggy. Below rare, the only 4 power 4 cmc fliers who could actually attack with no condition or drawback like upkeep cost was Tower Gargoyle at triple colors.
I wish the whale art on Skywhaler's Shot was a creature card instead, zoomed in on the whale. Such a gorgeous piece of art with a whale emerging from the clouds as if to dive. Wasted on a White Instant
I knew that leviathan art was going to show up on a card since it got shown at one of the PAX panels, but it's still damn impressive on the card. And it's an Evacuation (that leaves behind a 6/6 flying body) every 3 turns, to boot! It's delightfully Timmy and I want one for my Kiora & Sea Monsters deck.
Edit: I also like how the leviathan's ability synergizes with other Energy creatures - since they usually tend to produce Energy on ETB, you can just replay them to refresh the ability every turn and just put your opponent in a lock while your big flying monster punches them in the face every turn. You just need creatures that produced a combined 5 Energy when they come into play, which is notunreasonable.
Damn, now that's a finisher in U/x energy. This set also continues to deliver uncommons. I've skipped the last 4 prereleases because Meh, but this one... count me in.
Anybody else annoyed at the energy icons? I mean, they're kind of pain in the ass to count when they're all bunched up in a line. Why not got with "pay eight energy" and just leave off the who symbol thing? They're not saving card space when it takes a whole line to show the symbols anyway.
On the one hand: WHAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLESSSSSSSSSS!
On the other hand: Whaling? Uhh...that feels like it might stir up some controversy...
I was a little surprised by that as well, I don't think it's super controversial to represent it here, just surprising that they felt it warranted inclusion at all. It (whaling) being a pretty well-known industrial eradication of a natural species in ecosystems that affect not just the said species.
Wait, in which universe are assassins, tyrants and torturers fine but whalers controversial? Even if you subscribe to the belief that whales matter more than humans, a whaler is only working for their profit, not because they enjoy the suffering.
"They're just doing their jobs." Is never the best argument. Not to mention when it comes to the mass genocide of an animal in Japan mainly for sport (read: vanity, black market meat, luxury). Plus indifference to the actual treatment of the animal isn't a plus either, bizarre that you'd punctuate with that. Alas, not the place for this discussion anyway, education on the matter can be sought on ones own time.
I'm calling it right now- worst rare in the set. Even good limited players will find better bombs at common and uncommon no sweat. Worst. Episode. Ever.
I really do predict this to be our worst rare in set award winner. I'd be happier opening a jar of eyeballs, so I think anything worse is highly unlikely. This card wont just have zero constructed potential, but not be significantly better than a mass of ghouls in a draft.

They got all the shiny symbols, and they push whatever idea they have.
Its a bad idea and its blatanly obvisious to anyone that anything like 5+ energy counter symbols is a pain for the eye.
However, it might just be another "lesson" they have to learn, Maro probably already wrote his article about that for Kaladesh.
An "un-card" for the energy symbol overkill would be one that has so many energy counters (literally over 9000) that you cannot read anything on the card at all.

Agreed. This doesn't just apply to Energy counters, though. Mana symbols are organized the same way, which can get really annoying with cards like Soulbright Flamekin. WotC should consider bunching mana symbols in 3s, 4s or 5s, or laying them out in a more readable way, like so:
Yup. I'd maindeck it 2-3 copies in any white deck I build that is not also black. Probably sideboard it out vs some matchups though (spirits also decks where the only creature is Emrakul).
I might even play it in Orzhov only because scry.

Amazing Leviathan is amazing. That ability is basically free in an energy deck. And a 6/6 flier for 7? Icing.
