Wow... The answer from customer's support sounds like "There is not any problem and here is the first excuse they gave me when I asked at PR department".
So... This "double rainbow" pattern doesn't follow the same pattern with which the cards are printed... So it leaves some cards without the foiling effect on the artwork?
Really?
Then it means the foiling process they are using is inherently flawed.
I'm still disappointed they are using the ftv foiling. I thought that was the least popular foil because of the slickness, not really foiling the art just the whole card and warping easier.
Why wouldn't they just use the same as Set foil which emphasize the picture.
And the response from customer service is Ridiculous and unacceptable
They didn't realize it's not popular until a poll on their official twitter recently (where it showed that it was very unfavorable). We may see a new process/style in the future. The set after Amonkhet probably.
I don't know how they can do both FTV series and the Masterpiece series going forward. Seems to me like they're going to have to choose one or the other.

One product is a complete set of cards consisting of reprints with the rare exception, containing both new and classic art. And usually for the price of one Masterpiece card; part of a pool of powerful/important reprints that are more rare than one would readily be able to afford a full set of.
I'm not convinced by the Painter's Servant side-by-side. They're taken from two completely different angles. I noticed with my Lotus Petals that the reflection of light from different angles produced the "double rainbow" effect, but not consistently.
You really needed me to point out they both pull cards from Mythic/Rare rarities for a foil treatment (with brand new artwork and providing us with cards that haven't had a foil treatment before), and they both poach ideas of potential themes from each other, or were you being a curmudgeon for the sake of being one?

Sorry, were you offended that I didn't agree? I didn't intend to bother you like that. Idk what a curmudgeon is tho. But save the name calling for the playground, if possible.
And no, FTV is a readily purchasable product of a complete set (which doesn't have all new art by the way), complete with box, die, and inserts with lore for collectors. Nothing like Masterpiece Series at all. Which are super rare, and again the price difference.
I'm not convinced by the Painter's Servant side-by-side. They're taken from two completely different angles. I noticed with my Lotus Petals that the reflection of light from different angles produced the "double rainbow" effect, but not consistently.
Me neither. I just replicated the example photo with my own invention, and got the same results. I don't think it's wise to call a bunch of people liars, but I think I'm starting to notice a lot of people just don't realize that the inventions aren't completely glossed over, and therefore think they have these defects. Also the matte areas are foil, just not the way standard foils are.
It seems pretty clear that the customer service rep is telling you that it is not a defect, but rather that there are intentionally two different foiling processes, one of which is called "double rainbow." You're complaining about even more options people, not a defect. I guess it sucks that your $100 bill wasn't the shade of green you desired?
People dont hate missprints, but people hate it when they get them "official" from product and you are not told about it.
Especially if you buy cards online, you want to know if a card is a missprint or not.
----
The problem is further annoying as the Oracle Gatherer versions of the cards are NOT-foil to beginn with, but if there should only exist foil versions of a card, that online representation is quite flawed.
But nothing indicates that it is a misprint. And we've already been told that Gatherer version would not appear foil because of the difficulty of showing the foiling on that format.
If you're worried about buying them online, then don't do it. I'll gladly snatch them up if you don't want them.

I can assure you that no matter what I do with my card (that looks like the Servant on the Right) regarding light and angle, etc. I am not able to reproduce the "full-gloss" effect on the left. ;-)

Boy, I know very well what kind of attitude to expect from your posts, but this was pretty cheap even for your usual standard.
Let me explain it slowly for you:
1) We were told about Kaladesh Inventions, using *a* new foiling process, not "intentionally two different" foiling processes.
2) There are apparently Inventions that are "matte" and ones that can produce the full gloss effect. The question is why. Are there "bands" on the printsheet that go from full gloss to full matte and back? But it is beyond doubt that visually, there are two different versions.
3) I just want to know what. is. going. on. I give a rat's arse for my "$100 bill being not the shade of green I desired" (hah, still amazed by the sheer silliness of that statement). Call it a professional deformation, if you wish.
Anyway, this is the response from the Cust. Service after sending back the photos of full gloss and matte one:
Quote from Wizards CustServ »
The "regular" one that you have is one such masterpiece that exhibits a larger portion of a glossy pattern printed across the sheet. Each masterpiece will vary on overall reflectivity and color, marking it with its own certain degree of uniqueness.
We understand that design decisions like these may not always resonate with the entire player base and as such, we are very open to any criticisms and opinions that you have on the matter. Please let us know what you think. If there's anything else that we can help with, let us know and we'll be happy to oblige.
And this is what a friend of mine shared with me:
There is a gentleman in my community attempting to send a invention with the "matte-misprint" foiling back to wizards for replacement.
They originally responded with:
"Greetings,
Thank you for contacting Wizards of the Coast Customer Service.
To clarify about the Mox Opal, what you are seeing is a recurring “double rainbow” pattern foil, the pattern and position of which varies from card to card, because the width/repetition of the pattern is different than the width of the card. This appears as differences in reflectivity and color; it is intentional and is not a defect. The Magic team wants to assure you that this is how the cards were designed, and that they are printed correctly."
At first my community thought WOTC misunderstood the original request and so he replied and included my attached photo.
Wizards responded:
"Unfortunately, your Mox Opal cannot be replaced as they all have the effect." -WOTC
Has anyone else attempted to replace their "matte-misprint" inventions? What responses have you gotten?
Assuming WOTC confirms that this really is normal, then does that mean we officially have two versions? Which one is more common? How would we appraise value in this scenario?
So, after this, it really looks like there are "matte" and "gloss" bands on the printsheet. But it would really help to have Wizards address this openly, maybe even show the printsheet to demonstrate.
And if every Invention is "unique"....well, I would not like to be the one determining which would be worth more, the matte or the glossy, or something in-between

I have sent an email complaining about false advertisement. The only official news I am aware about this foiling process was this: https://twitter.com/trickmtg/status/775443311557431297
This doesn't match at any level with the foiling in the invention I have opened.
I expect an enormous amount of bad press due to clearly missleading announcement on the foiling process of the Kaladesh Inventions.
I don't think that's any good, you'll most likely get the same kind of funny (nonsensical) reply as caranthir. Vote with your wallet - don't buy product, don't buy expeditions, it speaks clearer than anything else. I'd truly love to see the faces of hasbros higher-ups if their golden, one-in-a-million chance, poorly manufactured lottery tickets would literally do nothing in terms of moving product.
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.

So...
Making things short:
Customer's Service said that all cards are printed with the "double rainbow" foiling effect and no 2 cards are alike because the frames of the cards and the repetitions of the double rainbow patterns are not superimposable.
Yet, they either ignore or fail to answer about the cards that do not show any "double rainbow" effect at all, even if pictures were provided.
Right?
Well... At least we now know that all cards were supposed to have that double-rainbow effect.
Pretty much that.
But even if we admit the "non-superimposable" claim is true, why there is not a single picture of a card that is partially glossy and partially matte?

Ohhhh gotcha. Yeah I have yet to see that claim as well, then. All the ones I've seen are partial gloss and partial matte, with full double rainbow. (I'm not the only one thinking of the double rainbow guy right..)
I think he means cards that show the rainbows up to like 1/2 of their length or width and show no foiling at all on the other half (save for the borders which seem to have a different foiling).
Yeah, that is what I meant.
