Hey, have you seen that there are two different types of foiling on the inventions? Some of them are fully foiled and has those prominent vertical shiny lines that resemble FTV foils, while there are some others that only have foil detailing on the frame, and the art on these are non-foil. I`ve been told that this is a different between US and European printings, but the shiny ones have been found in fa- uh, bundles here in Europe as well.

Yeah, I saw a couple of European-printed Inventions and they are all frame-foil only. Yesterday I have pulled a Mana Vault that looks the same - foil border, nonfoil art and textbox.
The Fat Packs/Bundles are printed and completed in US only, that is why. The boosterboxes for local European market are, on the other hand, almost exclusively Belgium-printed.
I wonder whether this is a mega-fail of Wizards...

what the actual **** someone please tell me this isn't really a thing. I was so super disappointed that the inventions had only a foil border, but if this actually turns out to be a manufacturing error in the EU its a fail I can't even put into words. I was confused from the beginning, seing the gif trick made for the mox opal, it looked completely different than all the inventions I saw up to now (I live in europe obviously).
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.

Sorry to disappoint you, but there ARE definitely two versions of Inventions - the "foiled border" ones and "all-foil" ones.
I have submitted a Blogatog question, as well as a Customer Service submission. From the WPN Facebook group, it seems that in Europe, there are only "foiled frame" ones, whereas in the US, both versions can be found.
I really, REALLY hope that there are not "regular" Inventions and "super-hyper-mega-cool-FOIL!!!!" Inventions. That would make the whole thing really stupid. But at this moment, it seems so.
I hope Wizards will issue an official statement soon.

I somehow doubt you'll get a meaningful (read: honest) reply, but thank you for your efforts caranthir. I also hope the same, it would be one heck of a bad joke if there are EX-super versions of inventions, only to be found in US product and only those are entirely foil. If it's on purpose, it's the helvault incident all over again. The framed border foils are just ugly, the art isn't popping out of the card as it should.
As ridiculous as it sounds, might this be an issue with the printrun? Energy counters were missing in the first printrun afaik, so maybe only expeditions from the second print run are all foil.
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.
So I pulled a chromatic lantern in the US that's only foil boarder. Do you guys think the full foil or the boarder only versions are more rare at this point. Honestly it kinda sucks if my chase card is less collectible than it should have been because of QC.
The foiling on the art is the crappy FTV foiling anyway so you should be happy or should be able to trade with someone who likes foils less. It is maybe a little more subtle than FTV but that is a good thing. The border is high gloss wierdness though. I like them well enough but the whole thing was a miss. IMHO
Is there even a full-glossy version? Because I've seen three in person, and they are full foil, but only the frame is glossy-FTV style. It's actually a cool texture and look I thought.
It would suck though if the art and text box were completely foil-free.
(just posted a video for reference to show what I mean about it being partially-glossy but fully foil: sword of light and shadow)
what the actual **** someone please tell me this isn't really a thing. I was so super disappointed that the inventions had only a foil border, but if this actually turns out to be a manufacturing error in the EU its a fail I can't even put into words.
It's really a thing, and it sucks. Sorry. I'm pretty sure it's not a straight up manufacturing error so much as it's done for logistical reasons. They print product in different facilities, and available printing techniques differ. Noticed those dull, ugly looking foils in some sets like EMN, AVR and MM15 while other sets have the nice vibrant ones? Yeah, something like that. But variance within a set, especially a hyper premium set of cards, sucks for many reasons, notably these two:
1) Mismatches. Nothing like blowing $600 on a playset of Æther Vials from different sources and getting two of each. This is actually a thing that is happening to people right now. Ugh!
2) People have different opinions on which version looks best, and that's going to make these cards a lot harder to sell or trade away. Got an invention Mana Crypt? I'm interested... oh, it's the fully foiled one? Sorry man, I had my heart set on the matte one. When aquiring $100+ cards you really want it to be exactly right. So you're even going to have a hard time unloading your two "wrong" Vials in the above example.
I guess 3) might be how this is yet another ****-up that makes WotC look like they have no idea what they're doing. They are making so many slip-ups right now; missing rares in Kaladesh boosters, mythics only in Liliana packs, ugly EMN foils, missing energy token, potentially tournament illegal Japanese cards... and remember all those damaged MM15 foils? And boxes with the same foil in every pack? Yeah, there's pretty much messing something up in every single set now.
As an irrelevant side note, I prefer the matte ones. As in, I had zero interest in the glossy ones when I thought they were all like that, but the matte ones got me itching.

First of all, congratulations on your Invention! Secondly, I want to clarify that there is no difference between the Masterpieces distributed to different countries. I cannot go into details about the production and distribution details, but I can confirm that they do not differ depending on the region that you are in.
What you are seeing is a recurring “double rainbow” pattern foil, the pattern and position of which varies from card to card, because the width/repetition of the pattern is different than the width of the card. This appears as differences in reflectivity and color; it is intentional and is not a defect. The Magic team wants to assure you that this is how the cards were designed, and that they are printed correctly.
If you would like to provide feedback on this approach to the cards, we would welcome your words and ideas as we strive to make improvements to our products. If you have any further questions or comments, please feel free to contact us again. Good luck and have fun!

Playing millions of cards every turn... Slowly and systematically obliterating any chance my opponent has of winning... Clicking the multitude of locking mechanisms into place... Not even trying to win myself until turn 10+ once I have nigh absolute control... Watching my opponent desperately trying to navigate the labyrinthine prison that I've constructed... Seeing the light of hope fade and ultimately extinguished in an excruciatingly slow manner... THAT'S fun Magic.

Near Mint: The same as Slightly Played, but we threw some Altoids in the box we stored it in to cover up the scent of dead mice. Slightly Played: The base condition for all MTG cards. This card looks OK, but there’s one minor annoying ding in it that will always irritate and distract you whenever you draw it. Moderately Played: This card looks like it survived the Tet Offensive tucked inside the waistband of GI underwear. It may smell like it, too. Heavily Played: This card looks like the remains of Mohammed Atta’s passport after 9/11. It may be playable if you double-sleeve it to stop the chunks from falling out. The condition formerly known as "Washing Machine Grade" Damaged: This card is the unfortunate victim of a Mirrorweave/March of the Machines/Chaos Confetti/Mindslaver combo.
[M]aking counterfeit cards is the absolute height of dishonesty. Ask yourself this question: Since most people...are totally cool with the use of proxies...what purpose do [high] quality counterfeit cards serve?

I was wondering for my Aether Vial and so its a real thing now.
The "correct" (customer friendly) respons would be to allow a replacement for the cards, for people that want to have the correct version.
Anyone else, can just keep what they have, like any other missprint (which might be "cooler" or not, however they see it).
I'm still disappointed they are using the ftv foiling. I thought that was the least popular foil because of the slickness, not really foiling the art just the whole card and warping easier.
Why wouldn't they just use the same as Set foil which emphasize the picture.
And the response from customer service is Ridiculous and unacceptable
I own several inventions, all obtained from EU product. All of them have a matte finish (non-foil at all) and the only thing that is printed using a glossy foil finish is the Kaladesh frame. I much rather this special finish than this so called double rainbow foiling that looks cheap (to my taste) like the reverse holo cards from Pokemon. If there is indeed a difference between EU/US printing process that is unintentional, WOTC should offer a replacement for the "correct" version
It seems pretty clear that the customer service rep is telling you that it is not a defect, but rather that there are intentionally two different foiling processes, one of which is called "double rainbow." You're complaining about even more options people, not a defect. I guess it sucks that your $100 bill wasn't the shade of green you desired?
