This would be playable if it costed 1 less. There isn't an alternative cost to make this more manageable. I seriously wished that they could make a card have energy in its mana cost.

It really doesn't at all need to cost less. It's a solid effect on a body. Mulldrifter doesn't even need evoke to be good.

Check out the thread for my cube if you have the time, and tell me how terrible it is.
Generals meant to be drafted first in a single pack of 6 cards.
And here is the actual cube, meant to be drafted in 4 regular sized packs. (60 card decks)
Good for a midgame boost. And like everyone else said, blink the heck out of it.

DECKS:
Commander:
Aurelia the Warleader - Combat Tricks and Swarm
Oloro, Ageless Ascetic - Lifegain/Lifedrain Pillowfort
Trostani, Selesnya's Voice - Token Assault
Meren of Clan Nel Toth - Reanimator Value
Mizzix - Out of the Box Spellslinger
The thing to judge playablity of this is "what deck wants it?" and "what is the alternative thing I could do for 5 mana". In a control deck, at 5 mana sorcery speed, you'd rather wrath the board or get a draw engine online than draw 2 and gain two life. So the lack of mulldrifter flexibility means this is not a control card. However, it can be a solid midrange card that does not plan on wrathing the board (perhaps because it runs other creatures). Moreover, if you are running other creatures, a certain 4 mana instant not only resets your ETBs, but can also save your dudes from death. Play this as a curve topper in a deck full of 2 and 3 drops and drop a couple of paradoxical outcomes to save your dudes (or reset their ETBs in the long game) and you might have a solid deck.
Bottom line: highly playable in the right deck, but even though this might look like a card control wants, i doubt any control deck will run it. Not because its bad, but because at 5 mana you need something that affects the board.
I seriously wished that they could make a card have energy in its mana cost.
They have to save something to "surprise" us in the second set
they'll never do that because of two reasons: 1) they've been adamant that E is different from mana because it does not empty during your phase changes. Putting E in the mana cost would be really confusing to casual players. 2) It would make energy very parasitic. As it stands, cards that require energy always have a means to produce it, so as to avoid parasitism (parasitism: in order to run card X you need to have another card Y around). If energy was in the mana cost, that would mean you can't play this unless you previously produced energy, and this is a design WotC dislike (and I agree with them.)
The true mind can weather all the lies and illusions without being lost. The true heart can tough the poison of hatred without being harmed. Since beginning-less time, darkness thrives in the void but always yields to purifying light.

but when he leaves them speechless with wisdom.

The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.

Nice but expensive
This is still quite comparable to Mulldrifter. I would never call this a "fixed" Mulldrifter, just a variation on it.

Lots of good blink effects out there these days in blue and white.
At the least, it could be lots of fun in a casual blink deck.
