wow...lazy and lame. had to make them all the same....ugh. this is kinda derpressing. the pax weekend and first couple days the spoilers were great. Usually the bulk is shown mostly the 2nd week of spoilers near the end.
This could be really bad. Either it means theres pretty much only garbage bulk left...which is a huge portion of the set as only 1/3 has been revealed so far or they are doing it differently this time and release bulk in the middle of spoilers. Hopefully the latter.

Dude they're commons. They're great limited cards which is exactly what they were intended for. It's a nice cycle.

So these are lazy and lame but vanillas aren't? Yes they are generic, yes they aren't amazing. They're not supposed to be. Why is this not something you have come to expect?

I just did not expect these kinda things so early in the spoiler weeks. anyway in regards to the vanillas my eyes almost rolled outa my head when i saw them.
I get that these are a cycle and thats fine, I just wish there was a bit more creativity in their design. maybe a keyword that makes sense with their color, yknow.

Coooooooommooooooooonuh! Seriously. The energy system is complex enough as it is tacking on more text will only make it worse. If you want more creativity and complexity then you need to look at another rarity slot.

Calm down, they're just commons. They are meant to be simple.
The rhino seems the best. A 2/3 is more likely to survive the turn, compared to 1/2 and 2/1 if you have nothing else better to do, you can untap on turn 4 and attack with a 3/4.
I like them, they are a good, solid, common cycle that is great for limited (and may end up being essential for energy based strategies in constructed).

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).
These are some of the most efficient (and pushed) commons I have ever seen.
At 4 mana, the only 3/5 creatures in white include a mythic rare, a rare, and a common defender wall. Now ofcourse this doesn't mean it will be a 3/5... but let's not pretend that these aren't pushed.
I also find these to be very lazy design. Okay or perfectly fine creatures at their mana cost with the new cool ability added with the same overused +1/+1 counter. This is also a great example of their continued creature power creep.
This is such a fantastic cycle!!!!! THOSE GREMLINS! but in all seriousness, the stats on all of these is nothing to sneeze at. Cant wait to attack with a 0/3 turtle

The true mind can weather all the lies and illusions without being lost. The true heart can tough the poison of hatred without being harmed. Since beginning-less time, darkness thrives in the void but always yields to purifying light.
I invision a future where one is not mighty when he can silence a crowd with brutality,
but when he leaves them speechless with wisdom.
I rarely get the complaint "lazy design", especially at common level. Yeah, the cycle feels a bit formulaic. But which common cycle doesn't? There's only so much complexity and new stuff you can do/introduce at common.
That being said, the turtle is the best one, closely followed by the rhino and the grubs.
Very solid limited commons, but I too found it rather lame that they all have the attack > +1/+1 counter trigger. Why am I being incentivized to attack with my 0/3?
MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
How about the even more niche Goats vs. Trolls? We've even got a few bridge cards to play on the Trolls' side.

Glad to see the Turtle as a one drop for Blue Energy decks. I know that Energy is something all the colors will use this set, but to me it made sense that Blue and Red would use it best. Up until now, Energy has been spoiled on a ton of Green cards, like the Hydra and the Puzzleknot, and Black and Red cards. Shoot, even White has the Rare Energy bird. Hopefully, Blue has more Energy relevant cards to be seen.

How are they lazy design when a thing that has been done in every set ever in the history of the game since alpha is print creatures with no abilities whatsoever AND creatures with only one evergreen keyword, which may I remind is a term that describes effects that are used in essentially every set? Are those hundreds of cards also lazy design? I mean, do you actually like this game?
Simple does not mean easy. Just because it might look to you like someone just slapped an ability they kinda liked on a bunch of cards and called it a day or something, doesn't mean that that's at all what happened, that what actually happened wasn't a lot of careful deliberate work to create an interesting and exciting products for the players, only for you to take a bit of a look at them, not having played them or the set in any capacity (as I think I can assume), and say 'meh, these are boring'. Card designs aren't good based on whether they are interesting for certain people to look at.
+1/+1 counters are overused you say? What about basic lands? What makes +1/+1 counters overused and not basic lands? Both are intended to serve basic functionality in the game, providing a base for more complicated and intricate frameworks to be laid out on top of them. Let's not stop there, what about gaining life? What about dealing damage? What about discard? What about mill? What about counterspells? What about pump? What about kill spells? What about draw spells? What the other dozen effects we see every block in some form? What makes +1/+1 counters meaningfully different in this regard from any of these other staple effects?

This is a game. It's not about how exciting it seems, it's about how it plays. R&D has a job and overwhelmingly they know what they're doing. Lazy design is actually randomly throwing a keyword on to make them "Interesting"; nuanced design is knowing when not doing so serves the game better.
It blows my mind when people think wizards is "Lazy" for not doing the thing they thought of in two seconds. If it was so easy to think up, your design is probably the lazy one.
At this point, the words "Lazy design" are a pretty reliable signpost for identifying people who don't understand the fundamental concepts of design in general.

Check out the thread for my cube if you have the time, and tell me how terrible it is.
Generals meant to be drafted first in a single pack of 6 cards.
And here is the actual cube, meant to be drafted in 4 regular sized packs. (60 card decks)
I kinda agree with the 2nd poster. If you strip these cards down to the bare bones, they've essentially the same text. Which is why the limited player in us should fume a little.
So what's so different from the red guy, to the blue, to the green, etc? There should be something distinct differences IMO. Like a vanilla ability.
So what if they're just commons? I think we need to take a step back and think for a bit, instead of bashing people for complaining. I think it's pretty legit to be annoyed about it.
There're some things we can accept and appreciate, but these cycle shouldn't be one of those days.

And a one-drop that adds two energy counters? With a 0/3 body to boot? A constructed energy-based deck would eat that up with a spoon.
