OK, let's see if I've got this straight: Glorious Anthem costs 1WW and is fair to good in the right environment. For 2 more, you get Anthem plus either a 4/3 flying lifelink vigilance or a 2/1 with the same abilities plus two thopters that get the Anthem buff. That card is apparently stone unplayable. Sure. I think everyone is greatly underestimating just how strong an anthem effect is; moreover, I think anyone saying this should have cost 2WW is nuts, and anyone saying it should have cost the same as Anthem should never evaluate cards again.
Now, that said, I doubt this sees a ton of Standard play right now solely because it shares the 5-spot in any white-based aggro/midrange deck with Archangel Avacyn, and her level of stupid-OPness drowns out any chance of something fairer seeing play. Leaning towards her being pretty good after Avacyn rotates. EDH-wise, she's a monster for Alesha, Who Smiles At Death decks.
It definitely thrives next to Nissa/Gideon in GW Tokens. Not only does it help going wide and giving them an anthem effect, Nissa's -2 and Gideon's emblem makes her and the tokens much better. The angel hates boardwipes, but the PWs are strong against it.
This card isn't replacing Gisela or Avacyn. This card goes into her own archetype. I think they are trying to turn GW tokens into mono white tokens. In a deck like that, Gisela makes no sense over Gideon in that curve, and you could run Avacyn and this since Avacyn is legendary. 3 and 2 Avacyn would be a fine midrange curve topper. She also goes well with the dwarf that buffs servos and thopters. Maybe a RW or GW lords or anthems deck. There is a use for this, it just isn't built yet.
Well it has some kinda neat support going on within its own set: Wispweaver Angel: Let's you reutilize its ETB and curves right after her, plus it becomes a 5/5 from the pump. Saheeli's Artistry: Creature Copying Ability let's you have 2 of this at 3/2, plus 4 3/3 servo tokens or a 5/4 angel + a 3/2 Angel + 2 3/3 servos or simply 2 angels at 5/4 Flying, Vigilance, Lifelink...it also curves right aftere this. Saheeli's Rai: The -2 lets you have a 1 shot chance at this, you will pick to make servos with the temporal copy but that still adds another +1/+1 to all your creatures for the turn and that's pretty neat, plus 2 free servos. Decoption Module + Fabrication Module: Playing her with both of these let's you have the angel at 5/4 while still having your 2/2 Servos, and 3 free energy. Fleetwheel Cruiser, Sky Stiff, Ovalchser Dragster: Even at a 2/1 she can automatically Crew all 3 of these while pumping them. Pharnanomicon: Well, you know.
So so far it interacts really well with a LOT and that just from what's been spoiled, I think so far is a very playable card.
This card is terrible. If you make the tokens then your vigilance lifelink anthem is ridiculously vulnerable and pretty much useless in combat. The Vigilance and lifelink are next to useless outside of some odric shenanigans. If you don't make the tokens it is basically a worse Gisela which already doesn't see much play. Unless you are using it as an anthem in a token deck then I don't see much reason to play this over always watching.
This card might tie together a modern Lord deck for white. Angel of Jubilation, Thistledown or Wilt-Leaf Liege, and a number of other Lords are available who could make her a 4 toughness creature. Sublime Archangel also might fit the theme.
If you can find the right combination of Lords, you could potentially create a "fair" version of what Bogles creates when they cast Daybreak Coronet. Focus on +1 toughness, Vigilance, Lifelink, and maybe also Flying.
...plus vigilance and lifelink. With some added versatility and poss flicker/bounce shenanigan potential....
seems like 5 mana is a pretty sweet deal for this package

I invision a future where one is not mighty when he can silence a crowd with brutality,
but when he leaves them speechless with wisdom.
Card evaluations have never worked like that. If it worked like that then Greenwarden of Murasa is just a better eternal witness which is not the case.
I'm not really understanding the hate. The card is plenty strong, and obviously tokens were performing stronger in the FFL because there are a plethora of low sweeper effects: biting rain, flaying tendrils, radiant flames, kozilek's return, that new red card that you sac an artifact for to hit everything for 3, archangel avacyn's flip trigger, chandra flamecaller...I'm sure there's some I'm missing but you get the gist.
All of the wide removal right now is focused into red and black, with white having planar outburst as a catch all sweeper (stats don't matter here so I didn't include it in the list above). If they are attempting to create a rock-paper-scissors constructed environment I can see RB beating GW sure, but what if you forgo the green and build to shore up the built in weakness of the deck.
Giddeon drops tokens and anthems and you have her. Plenty of pump when you are going so wide honestly. Pair with blue for crap like negate or surgical extraction to bypass the weakness and cast 1-2 turns behind curve; heck unsubstantiate or essence flux on her is amazing. Pair with black for cards like transgress the mind, collective brutality, or pick the brain to be more proactive and set up the haymakers like this to stick.
None of those decks want always watching as its non token only. None of those decks are protecting larger creatures with avacyn. Those decks are going wide and high making pinpoint spot removal weak.
For those of you saying the CMC is too high, I don't want to play in your standard environment. I think the options around the card are just fine.
Since the ability is triggered, an opponent could respond to the triggers to eliminate the angel on the spot. Not sure if this is good by itself or not.
The effect on Limited, I would guess. Evasive, anthem, potentially 4-power lifelink for CMC 5? You wouldn't want Gisela showing up a lot in Draft/Sealed, would you? This is pretty close to her level, and arguably more versatile.
One strong rare wouldn't be enough to warp an entire format. Besides, I'd rather have overpowered bomb rares in Limited than useless ones like the Resevoir and Panharmonicon.

Panharmonicon is going to do a lot more than you think, even in Limited. The chances of that happening are lower, because you have to have it out before your ETB critters (Fabricate, anyone?), but don't underestimate that potential.

agreed with the above poster panharmomicon has a lot of things it can trigger this set only, it has more potential that one may expect

I guess that is true. I still stand by my point on Aetherflux Reservoir though.
captain of the watch
total of 9/9 on 4 bodies for six mana with vigilance. At rare.
This has total of 6/5 on 3 bodies, only one has flying, vigilance and lifelink. At mythic.
Should have made it 1WWW or a 1/1 wih fabricate 3
This is also five mana versus six, can optionally be a 4/3 if a larger single body is needed, and is not tribal locked for the Anthem effect it provides.
I was going to get the Dwarf with the same keyword abilities for New-Odric, but this is just flat out better. Can be recruited with Recruiter of the Guard and Anthems!

A very good point. Im not saying that it's a constructed staple or anything, just that I think you get alot of bang for your buck. I would say the same thing for greenwarden of murasa too (even though that example isnt quite right since one of the cards is a dies trigger and the stats are different, but close) Its a measure of efficiency, but you are correct that its not the end-all-be-all of how we should look at cards
I mean if we look at Cruel Ultimatum this way, its absolutely crazy! And it is certainly powerful, but its still a seven mana hard to cast sorcery, which is some pretty crucial context.

It's nice to know that wizards doesn't give a crap a white cards. Keeps me from getting my hopes up. This card should have honestly been 3 or 4 mana.
geez there's misevaluating cards and then theres just trolling. cmon guy. 3 mana?
People are undervaluing this thing way too much. The versatility is great. and no matter which route you chose it gives an anthem to tokens AND nontokens.
