Iunno about it being weak, there's already been some rapid energy buildup made. This guy is easily 5/4 when he first strikes and pending on how the lower mana energy works out, it might get pretty big with ease while dodging spot removal.

My Commander decks:
Chandra, Torch of Defiance - Oops! All Chandras.
Prime Speaker Zegana - Draw for Power.
Pir & Toothy - Counterpalooza.
Arcades, the Strategist - Another Brick in the Wall.
Zacama, Primal Calamity - Calamity of Double Mana.
Edgar Markov - Vampires Don't Die.
Child of Alara - Dreamcrusher.
It may seem weak on the surface, but I think the R/G Energy Aggro deck that Adam lays out is a great building block of a Standard deck with potential. Harness the Lightning, the green Puzzleknot and the Cub all do work wonders with this card, and it doesn't have to see play as a 4-of to be powerful in the right kind of deck.
I like that his first activation is, for all intents and purposes, free. Basically a 5/4 with one turn hexproof for 2GG. May not be constructed, but happy to take in limited.

Unfortunately, unless you had 3 energy preloaded, this may die to instant spot removal before it can make itself hexproof. Its ETB energy granting ability goes on the stack when it enters the battlefield. A removal spell while that's on the stack would kill it before it provides the energy to activate its own hexproof-granting ability.

I was just about to ask this. Thanks for thinking ahead.

Certainly seems like a notable drawback.
Unless you're playing Energy.dec of course. You would likely have energy to use before even casting him.
I take no issue with your point. Your scenario is not too different from most instances of activated hexproof when you only have enough resources to activate once. If your opponent has mana available the turn you play this, depending on your opponents colors, caution is warranted. Still doesn't change my mind about happily taking this in limited though.

Turn 5: Land, Spend the energy, start the chain, make 5 1/1's, put 6 +1/+1 counters on this guy, and have enough energy stored to make him hexproof if needed.
I think this is deceptively powerful in the right deck. RG seems to have a pretty cool energy aggro deck in the works which i think this could fit into.

EDH BRGKresh the BloodbraidedBRG, A box of lands and ideas.
Modern: RG Titanshift. A deck made of cards too stupid for EDH.
Retired: Lots. More than I feel you should suffer through or I should type out.
This card is really good, imo. The fact that it has a built in Hexproof you can use in response to removal makes it really strong, and depending on the rest of the energy regeneration in this set it might even eat more than that! Plus it gets bigger when it does too, that's great.
Of course I can understand wanting to add blue or red for more options.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
The energy is an ETB trigger so someone with a murder can still kill him before the engery is added to your account. Still, a cool card. Green's looking pretty good again. Other than the gearhulks, I think green has the best new cards so far(new Chandra as the obvious exception)

Seems weak compared to other hydras

This card is actually quite powerful. That Hexproof clause will make for a very frustrated BW control opponent

Storm Crow is strictly worse than Seacoast Drake.

They keep messing with hydras it seems.

Also, the image of this guy using his heads to pilot the Skysovereign, Consul Flagship makes me smile.
