Turn 1: a 1-drop creature, Turn 2: Cryptolith Rite, Turn 3: Pious Evangel, Turn 4: Eldrazi Displacer, Turn 5: Brood Monitor then combo for as much life as you feel like getting; I usually stopped at 1,000. At that point, you can either transform the Evangel to drain your opponent to death or you can wait until you find the Reservoir, presuming you don't tutor for it. Against Company decks I would usually get the Displacer out first in case it got bounced; either way, ignoring their creatures while assembling the combo would result in victory. This combo is extremely weak against Radiant Flames or Languish, though, but extremely effective against Ramp or Crush decks.
The Puzzleknots are cute and should be somewhat fun in Limited but if I am going to pay 2 for an artifact I will probably stick with Hedron Crawler to ramp or Lupine Prototype, which is powerful enough to crew any vehicle on its own.
In multiplayer EDH, Test of Endurance will frequently be better than Aetherflux Reservoir. Now, the latter perhaps wins out if you've got things that care about life gain triggers, other ways to use your life total, or 151+ life.

All you have to do is look like a bad life-gain deck. No one will take you as a threat. They'll go after people doing stuff.
Then you drop this at 151+ and shoot everyone else down. You don't have to wait a turn and paint a target on your back.

Edit: What's nice about those colours is that you can also put cards like Soulfire Grand Master in the deck for consistency and get value from already powerful cards like Lightning Bolt. I mean I know SGM doesn't work the same as Hallow, but it'll let you get the card and work towards your goal.
Fifty damage, RAAAGGHHRRR!!!! It's nice to have something that actually turns infinite life game into a victory (rather than just an unwinnable situation for the opponent). It reminds me just a little bit of Mox Lotus, or Gleemax.
Aetherflux Reservoir seems fun with Tainted Sigil for EDH. Assuming you can get 51+ life, if you activate Sigil after paying 50 life and dealing 50 damage to an opponent, you gain 100 life and can activate the Reservoir two more times.
Reservoir kind of represents all sorts of bad design for commander. Its similar to Sorin Markov but instead it just completely removes players. It gives super big lifegain decks something dumb to output their life into but at the same time is it really healthy to keep pushing these kind of effects? I have always felt this sort of a card is very toxic and seeing new ones worries me. The difference for commander is that there is more than one enemy so giving up 50 life to kill a player is kind of a heavy toll but at the same time being "that guy" in the meta that draws all sorts of removal and targeting I have no doubt that if anyone plays this they will target me with it.
My first reaction is a knee jerk. I really hope that this Reservoir sees no impact on commander but I fear any time it might. Random side note.... Children of Korlis rebel cannon
I kind of like it for the opposite reason, being able to use life gain as a weapon of sorts is nice. Usually life gain is seen as no big deal, this makes it one.
Only thing I wish is that the amount was a bit smaller. Not something I would use, but it seems kind of unwieldy when you have to hit fifty to use it.
I agree. Commander is the only format where lifegain is actually useful (Okay, I guess Soul Sisters is pretty good). This card is just another cool card to add to the mix. At least this thing inspires players to try something creative and new.

As someone who played Oloro Stax/ Control, I'll say this: Gaining life is easy. Keeping it is hard. Sure, you can do nothing but gain life, but you get overwhelmed pretty quickly doing that. The payout of taking one player out is not that huge (except in 1v1, which is pretty much a different game anyways.) Usually after like one or two games with a group, people learn to attack the Oloro player early and often, if only to mitigate the life gain. I'm not even sure I would play this card in Oloro unless I built a Storm variant, and Storm would be what was broken, not this card.

There's no damage trigger, so you need to cast it before you start flipping cards. It might gain you 2 life; it might gain you 30. Nobody knows.
Are you about to argue think twice is bad? Because this is think twice with the first half at sorcery speed. (Which isn't great, but it doesn't kill the card)

Check out the thread for my cube if you have the time, and tell me how terrible it is.
Generals meant to be drafted first in a single pack of 6 cards.
And here is the actual cube, meant to be drafted in 4 regular sized packs. (60 card decks)
new wellsprings (ala ichor wellspring) seem ok. not great, but pretty cool. I would have rather had something like moriok replica and crew, but these are also neat. i LOVE the artworks at the very least

The true mind can weather all the lies and illusions without being lost. The true heart can tough the poison of hatred without being harmed. Since beginning-less time, darkness thrives in the void but always yields to purifying light.
I invision a future where one is not mighty when he can silence a crowd with brutality,
but when he leaves them speechless with wisdom.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
I want to give it lifelink, and rapid fire all my opponents.
I had been siting on a Sydri, Galvanic Genius deck for awhile. This seems like a good reason to make it.
I don't get it. You want to gain 50 life with 4/4 lifelink Reservoir artifact creature?
No, once you get to 50 life, you can repeat it's ability and deal 50 damage to any amount of targets.
It upgrades the deck from duel to multiplayer. And there's a certain charm in "and 50 damage to you, and 50 damage to you".
Target yourself. Do 1 damage to self, gain 2 life and 1 damage to your own face. Repeat for infinite life (and unstoppable combo), but then activate the Reservoir as many times as you wish.
Metalspinner's puzzleknot looks like an artifact version of think twice: it is not instant speed, and it deals damage (those are the cons), but it can be rebought from the yard, and artifact is a relevant type in this set. Since TT was a standard staple, this could see play.
You'll never be able to gun down a whole table of players in multiplayer using something that triggers off the damage because the targeted player will just concede in response.

I'm *definitely* putting it in the Ayli deck I'm building.
It was looking light on wincons, so this is nice to see.
Crazy you don't even have to sac it.
Add Rings of Brighthearth for double the fun!
And what's up with only two of the five puzzleknots giving energy?
That seems like poor design.

Madcap Experiment to find Aetherflux Reservoir and casting Hallow in response to the damage trigger, or whenever you'd need to cast it.

Other than that, I kind of wish the Puzzleknot cycle was 1 CMC. It would have been a nice tool to use with Sydri.

Enter The Infinite + Omniscience (likely in Mizzix of the Izmagnus deck) + any ~15 spells to get rid of all your opponents.
But with Enter The Infinite + Omniscience (or even without Omniscience) you probably will have many other options (Master the Way for much more damage to single face).
But 50 damage! As Timmy, I am baited.
