Oh I just remembered that Cryptolith Rite was a card that'll share standard with the Modules for a while.
If we weren't losing Thopter Engineer to rotation, those five cards would be 'infinite' token generation. Hopefully something new (or a Thopter Engineer reprint, this is the plane for it) can close the loop and make each new token able to pay for its successor.
(And yes, I realize a five card combo isn't actually viable anyway, but it is fun to see what theoretical combos exist in a Standard at any given time)
Why is the playmat Nissa and a view of the sky? Really?
not chandra? Saheeli? A Vehicle? AN ARTIFACT? something else? goodness
I wondered the same thing. Why use Nissa of all characters and things to be the playmat for Kaladesh, a plane she had mentally fortify and convince herself she could cope staying on. Def an odd decision.
I just imagine I will find one of those mythic rares into a pack and be so sad... Really guys, there will be 2 version of PW in the next sets (same set- different versions of 2???)...
Uh, why is Chandra so ugly and totally don't look like herself. I don't asky shy she costs six, because it's classic Chandra cost. At least Nissa is good looking.
I thought the modules sucked until i realized there is no 'nontoken' clause on the Decoction Module; that change alone makes it amazing. If you have all three and cast a creature that's 0 cmc; you can loop and get a +1/+1 counter, 1 energy, and a 1/1 Servo for each mana you can generate. All we need is a way to turn E into mana at a 1:1 ratio or better.
There's definitely be some kind of Ornithopter/Memnite/Endless One deck with these Modules; I'm already brewing.
I'm calling it right now- worst rare in the set. Even good limited players will find better bombs at common and uncommon no sweat. Worst. Episode. Ever.
I really do predict this to be our worst rare in set award winner. I'd be happier opening a jar of eyeballs, so I think anything worse is highly unlikely. This card wont just have zero constructed potential, but not be significantly better than a mass of ghouls in a draft.
I kind of wish the Planeswalkers were just too expensive to cast in a normal game of Magic, looking at either a high colored mana cost or high converted mana cost, but still good for those restrictions. Maybe people would still try to use them in Standard, but given how often crazy expensive Planeswalkers are seen as an iffy thing, I don't know that they would.

Yeah, these are both quite a bit below what I was hoping for.
I was expecting expensive (they pretty much told us this),
but I wasn't expecting 4-5 mana PWs on 6 mana cards.
They must have been actively worried about even EDH players and established casuals buying these,
so they made them so bad that only the most ignorant/financially limited players would care about them.
I kind of doubt this is going to have the intended effect,
but I guess we'll see.

It's interesting that they massively inflated the loyalty economy on the planeswalker deck walkers, with +2 and +3 abilities and high starting loyalty. Helps them stick around through an attack or two and be difficult to get rid of. They obviously aren't Standard material, but I think that helps newer players get the satisfaction of getting out a walker and keeping it out to use for several turns. As such, I think they do a good job of doing what they were intended for, which is pretty much kitchen table play.
They would be cheap and not wanted in decks so no one would want them. It would make walkers bulk mythics that would have to be eventually taken out of the game since people would complain that a good mythic spot would be taken by garbage cards. There is no way wizards would do that to their wanted cards. Since walkers sell packs in standard and that is where they make their money. They have to cater to the fan base, ie. Printing cards for modern and edh, but they are out to make money for themselves without breaking the formats since that would cause collectors to want to pull out and find a new game. It's a fine line between want and give, to allow the need to buy into the new sets to continue, for all players in the game.
Nissa seems playable in standard in my opinion draw 2 / ramp seems good sure she is 6 mana but the deck she is going to be played in have no problem getting to 6 mana at like turn 4/5 alternatively she hits the table and +3 gain 3 life and starts @ 8 loyalty which is a huge number
So they made a "bad Chandra" in order to put her into pre-constructed decks for "newer players", huh? Dunno, I probably would feel ripped off.
Lathnu Hellion looks strong though.
Well that's because you're not the intended audience. They make a splashier, less efficient, and less complicated Chandra so that it's fun to play with but doesn't get scooped up en masse by competitive players.
This product isn't for competitve players. It's a casual product to introduce people to the game. The people using it aren't gonna feel ripped off it's inefficient because it's cool and competetive efficiency isn't even a thought at that point.

Check out the thread for my cube if you have the time, and tell me how terrible it is.
Generals meant to be drafted first in a single pack of 6 cards.
And here is the actual cube, meant to be drafted in 4 regular sized packs. (60 card decks)
Yes.
It's no Contagion Engine,
but the fact that it can make blockers *and* add loyalty is really useful.
My 5C Superfriends EDH couldn't be more full,
but I'll cut *something* for this
(likely Contagion Clasp as blockers are better than multiple counters).

Wizards just couldn't handle the idea of making a good Chandra and had to throw in an extremely overpriced one to compensate. At the very least it could deal 5 damage with its -3 ability.
Nissa also seems overcosted. Sure, she will win you the game in 3 turns, but plenty of 6-drops can do that even faster and Nissa's -4 seems like it isn't quite good enough for a -4 ability.
Madcap Experiment is interesting. Does anyone know what the chances are that this will deal less than 20 damage if you cast it on the fourth turn with 4 Blightsteel Colossus as the only artifacts in your deck?
Lathnu Hellion is great. A double Ball Lightning (though admittedly without trample) that can potentially stick around for even longer? Sign me up.
The modules seem fun and are a nice callback to the stations from Fifth Dawn. I just wish that Animation Module didn't require mana so that we could get a true infinite combo.
cause you could redirect the 2 damage every round to nissa, which makes her +3 just +1
and after 3 rounds you can use the chandra ultimate to damage nissa too, which would drop nissa to 2 counters left
just repeat this 4 more rounds and chandra defeated nissa ^^
Meanwhile Nissa's player has gained 21 life. Something a red deck can't really recover from.

Also it gives you an artifact to search for with Nahiri if she has a lot of counters on her (unless you've already put one in your deck - most Standard superfriends doesn't run one)

Bro, that Chandra is for the replacement to Intro Decks. What did you expect? You don't have to worry about pulling her in a booster pack.

Remember the "rainbow egg" from the end of Kaladesh trailer?
99% sure it will be legendary artifact that can convert energy to mana of any color. Maybe mythic.

They aren't going to be in Booster Packs.
Booster packs will have Chandra, Torch of Defiance and Nissa, Vital Force
The cards spoiled in this thread are Chandra, Pyrogenius, and Nissa, Nature's Artisan: The Planeswalkers in the Planeswalker Decks that are replacing the intro packs.
Her fingers are on fire, i guess that is an "intro" version of being on fire.

Don't forget you still take the damage. The lifelink will offset the damage you do to yourself.
I agree. Rarity doesn't matter on these cards since they are not in boosters. I would rather they use the purple symbols like they did in Timespiral.
