"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die." - Roy Batty
I'm already thinking outside Standard and Modern, and wondering just how degenerative energy counter shenanigans can become in EDH/Commander, for example. My gut feeling says there will be a lot of silliness to be had with this mechanic.
It would take really, really good "energy generators" for this to be even playable in constructed, competing with Grasp of Darkness in Standard and Dismember in Modern.
The art is nice but makes me think about Overwatch which isn't good at all. It's getting too cartoony for my taste.
I wonder if the energy thing will be actually have some good pay off cards. If it will than this remova/energy ramp card might be good, if not than, well..
I really don't see the "cartoony" thing in this artwork. The flavor and art are pretty beautiful and sad in my opinion. And I find it great that each Energy card provides and uses energy at the same time, making the mechanic much less parasitic than it could be (for example you could play this without any other energy cards and get a sorcery Dead Weight, which is not exciting but not impossible to use in limited either for example). Any other Energy card just makes it much better. I feel many people are underestimating the mechanic...
You can use this to pay 1B and get two energy counters. Paying "any amount" of energy would include zero, so you can forego the creature removal if you just really need the energy.
-2/-2 at 2 mana sorcery speed is mediocre in standard, but reasonable in limited. The only way this can be played in either constructed or limited is that they print very good energy producers. For constructed, I'm really hoping for a planeswalker that has "+1: do something and add E" (add E alone seems too weak). The problem is that they probably wont do this, because they won't print a walker that is too tied to a particular set's mechanic.

Show me a pay off card and I can decide if I'm underestimating it or not, because so far the cards that use energy are very weak for constructed(sadly). If the energy sing cards will be all weak than this wil be just a bad removal on sorcery speed.
There will be a pay off card, of that there is no doubt.
The question is: will it be strong enough? WotC will assuredly try to have energy counters be playable in constructed. Hell they made Emrakul playable!

Narset Transcendent used rebound, though she was a part of a loose cycle of "alternate Khans" who all had or used their brood's mechanic.
Fun card, definitely fits into the "choosing how to spend your energy" dynamic they said they were going for: you either get 2 energy counters, kill a 1-toughness creature and get an energy counter, or kill a 2-toughness creature - and, if you have energy to spend from other sources, you can get rid of bigger things, too. Has interesting tension with Fabricate, in that keeping the counters for themselves makes creatures less susceptible to removal than if they bring Servos with them.

Wow. This is probably the most feels-y black card I've ever seen. And that Aetherborn is probably the least-menacing-looking black character I've ever seen.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
I don't think I've ever seen a black kill spell flavored as a non-violent death before. Not sure if playable, but I definitely want to find a foil version.
I feel like this could have been instant or -1/-1 no matter what and then energy could be spent on it to go higher, but I guess without know more it could be really easy to get energy and this could be incredible.
Looks not bad either...
