I wonder how many people during the prerelease are going to try to block with vehicles without crewing them first. It's got a printed power/toughness even though it's not a creature.. I think that might confuse people.
My Zombie/Delirium Sacrifice deck is really looking forward to Aetherworks Marvel (shown in the Energy video - it's not on the page). I'm already using Bloodbriar and getting value from sacrificing Evolving Wilds and Terrarion, now I get energy counters TOO!
No black cards and only one green card - a little disappointing. Although it's interesting to me that the green card creates and artifact creature token, that's a little unexpected. It lends credence to the theory that Saheeli might be GU (which NO ONE even considered before Wednesday's story article)

We're in agreement on this point, for sure. It's a bit jarring, especially since I keep going to Ovalchase Dragster's reminder text and wondering why This and Vehicle seem so snuggly.

Yup - I posted that before I saw the card. It's a little weird because Red doesn't tend to hold back and in Wednesday's story she refused to help with the invention because it was "too dangerous".

Her reasons for not supporting her friend's work were in part because she worried about the dangerous implications, but also because she really was jealous. It was clear from her thoughts that she felt this way even though she denied it. She let her emotions dictate her actions and betray her own principles.

You're not alone in raising an eyebrow at that part of the story. I think we can make an educated guess on how Saheeli's spark ignited.
I'm sure the story for the set is going to be interesting. Unfortunately mechanics wise it looks like we finally may have yet another Kamigawa block coming. That or they better have some seriously sweet dwarf tribal going in this block and the next. I can't even count my fingers how many "dwarf" creatures there are in all of magic.:laugh2:

Well, to be fair - she did have a good and valid reason for it. Not just "Oh - I'm afraid because there might be some bad consequences so lets not". No, she specifically knew that teleportation taps into the Blind Eternities and as a Planeswalker she knows what ELSE might be in the Blind Eternities. However since most people don't know Planeswalkers exist - she couldn't well explain the information she had, so she just said "It's too dangerous."
I made the argument that UR can manifest as "Passion tempered by reason" - not everyone whose red has to be completely reckless, though there is a strong tendency towards it.
It's a little interesting to me that the elf inventing the teleporter is GU. Not colours I would have expected of an artificer.

Energy might prove parasitic like splice and soulshift, and the tribals might be esoteric, and fabricate might make bushido look all-star by comparison, but vehicles are already more interesting than everything in kamigawa and theres certainly nothing as stinkeroo as Sweep (yet). If we really do get a visit from the parasitism grumkins I wouldn't imagine it more harsh than coldsnap.

It makes sense from the context of the story. She's a scientist through and through, but her inspiration for her work comes from her faith in the aether of the world personified as a directive force with a greater plan. It's a very green sort of spirituality, and it's a great example of how green philosophy doesn't have to be at odds with technology.

Actually, I kind of think it makes sense. Simic study the biology aspects of nature.
Rashmi, however, is studying the natural world itself. I could see the argument that astronauts and physicists are UG. This is basically that same idea, applied to a steampunk world.

Casual Magic player since Onslaught. 70% TIMMY, 30% Johnny.
Seems like instead of the traditional eternal-grudge-genocide-destroy-everything setup, we'll be competing by speed racing and showing off goofy inventions.

Unless I'm mistaken, Maro stated during the PAX stream that every card that cares about energy both generates it and uses it. So there's a pretty nice and low ceiling on how parasitic energy can be.
the mechanics article says "Most cards that give you energy counters also give you a way to spend them", I can't say whether that speaks to if its every or some that aren't
the mechanics article says "Most cards that give you energy counters also give you a way to spend them", I can't say whether that speaks to if its every or some that aren't
Hmm, that statement seems to imply that there might be some cards that give energy but don't use it. The cards we've seen so far haven't been particularly parasitic, but I guess I'll withhold judgement until later.
I'd gander that the 6-8 cost cards are parasitic in that they're not reasonably playable on their own but really really need other energy sources, whereas the roc only needs 1 more creature drop to start producing value, plenty useful in a vacuum. I don't know if this bodes well for future cards to be spoiled or not. I'm staying optimistic, because its reasonable to think that the big splashy mythics and rares would have high cost abilities, but there might be more efficient small cost commons/uncommons
Create - Good idea to name this action, and especially in this set.
Vehicle / Crew - Very cool mechanic! I've seen many people in the custom card creation forums try to come up with mounts or ships or what have you. This is the most elegant version I've seen. While appearing quite simple it does allow for some interesting combat. I especially like how having multiple Vehicles is not redundant as the smaller ones can activate the bigger ones. First time I've ever seen 'crew' used as a verb. Then again, Magic was the first time I heard 'instant' or 'permanent' used in their forms, so what the hey.
Fabricate - Nice and malleable mechanic which creates several options, especially in limited. Why be forced to go wide or go tall? This will very much help Vehicles and help to restock your board. I'm assuming most cards will be Fabricate 1 so as not to lead to too many board stalling situations in limited.
Energy - This is fantastic and reminds me a lot of Gold counters from Theros block. I'm really curious to see what comes of this mechanic, because I think it has amazing potential. If Vehicle is the top-down mechanic of this set, Energy is the bottom-up mechanic.
I would love to see Proliferate come back for the sequel as it would fit well with both Energy and Fabricate. Obviously it's better for the second set as it encourages you to play more Energy-creating cards on their own right, and because it skews Fabricate towards the "go tall" option. Of course, Populate could always come back too.
Two-brid mana is the other mechanic I'd love to see return. It would just slip into the set so easily and would push towards playing colours rather than just focusing on colourlessness. Let's see what the rest of the set brings anyhey.

I'm expecting to see one of the following cards in green (both are druids, possibly elves);
Either; T: G T: E
Or; TE: Add one mana of any colour to your mana pool.
(The unresolvable symbol is 'E' until the site mods add that symbol)
This would be a card that either produces or uses E - not both (hence why the article says 'most' and not 'all'.)
Of course, the card could also be; T: Add E. TE: Add one mana of any colour to your mana pool.
Then it does both.

Personally, I think the UG elf lord has some good potential with his ability to basically replace any card that gets cast and potentially grant a free cast if the last spell was more expensive than the one being drawn into. He's boltable in modern, but in the kind of deck someone may play him in I'm not sure it is going to matter. He's also going to be a fun option in Commander. Otherwise I'm not feeling it with the previews. The vehicle / crew mechanic feels very much like a limited format mechanic and the mechanic for making 1/1 servos doesn't sound as exciting as Magic Origins and the Thopter spawning mechanic. 1/1 evasive fliers are far better than generic 1/1 flunkies.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
