Sure it does. But nobody's complaining that Kaervak wasn't a trans-demi-otherkin on Jamuraa, were they? Mirage and Kamigawa remain two blocks where they did a good job of reflecting culture and mythology of the respective societies. Original Ravnica did a good job too.
The real issue is people trying to bring up stuff like "when are you going to do (insert less than 1% of the population) thing" and "you're culturally appropriating" when in reality Magic is a game and not real life.
They should start to get worried if the game goes downhill and not about narcissistic "it has to represent me" ideals.
Except that Wizards has done everything but make no connection with the real world? You may be imagining the chasm between game and reality. Because Wizards has been increasingly good with reflecting real life social issues and concepts in their game. Plus who is complaining? If like AirThrow, you have not even seen the questions posed, then I'd say just wait to do that before basing judgment on posters who are easily triggered by harmless questions that ultimately don't answer something they want to know about. Because there was nothing about cultural appropriation, the guy was praising wizards for them not relying on stereotypes and asking what then did they use from Indian culture. Not his fault they really expanded on the answers there (something, mind you, no one forced them to do. because you know, they actually are inquiries that they felt deserved effort)

Would it have been bad templating to have that say "Pay eight [energy symbol]"?
super crappy... 8 lands need to enter before you get a 6/6 vanilla?
No, you just need to get 8 energy sources.
Play land -> get an energy
Play something with that land -> get an energy
and so forth
When the cards need other energy producers to function efficiently and be playable, thats when "Energy avoids parasitism by both producing and consuming the resource on the same card" starts to fall apart and this mechanic veers towards parasitism, something that worries me having seen whats undoubtedly only going to get support in this block. In its loosest form you get a tribal mechanic, where energy cards work better the more you play them but can be on their own, but the ability to function in a vacuum seems really doubtful when the card's ability only function is extreme circumstances like "Once you've got 11 lands out"
From the two we've seen so far, the extremely high resource cost to get any effect at all is a real concern about how parasitic they are. If they were lower cost for lower effect they'd at least do something on their own. Without extra help, this is just a hurloon minotaur- you get counters you can't spend on an ability you won't activate 95% of the time

They specified doing it this way in order to make it more obvious in draft when you are investing in (or not) energy cards if something is worth looking at or passing over.
Would it have been bad templating to have that say "Pay eight [energy symbol]"?
Maybe? They like to keep the templating consistent and while this works for stuff with a large number of symbols its not so good for a small number of symbols.
I really hope there's some kind of doom cannon in this block. Sacrifice XX energy doom cannon deals x damage to target creature where X is the amount of energy you sacrificed.

regret creature is my favorite typo/autocorrect of the day
Anyone else not a fan of the vehicle border? For them being technological and metallic, the border sure looks creaky.
I like that they have a different border for vehicles, but you're right that the border they went with seems the wrong aesthetic. Wood and rivets is pretty tacky looking for a card type thats on a mystical curlycue plane rather than medieval swords-n-boards.

Cards that are good when used together and okay on their own aren't too terribly parasitic. Nor is a single parasitic mechanic in a set a serious problem (IMO the occasional parasitic mechanic is a good thing since it lets them experiment with new stuff). It becomes a disaster when you have Blocks like Kamigawa where most of the mechanics are parasitic.
Honestly, I feel like Energy and Vehicles are fine... assuming they have good pieces to support them. How many energy producing cards will there be and how easy will it be to create energy tokens? While 8 is a lot of energy required for a 6/6, a couple of them on the battlefield + cracking a fetchland already creates four energy for you. Energy is extremely parasitic, but if there are a few reliable energy creators, it might be something you can build around.
As for vehicles, I think the flavor of the mechanic is a fail, but I feel like it can lead to some really interesting cards. The question is how interesting the cards are. The mythic vehicle that was spoiled was pretty damn uninspiring imo. If that's the pinnacle of vehicles, then the mechanic is a failure imo. What I'd love to see is a Crew 8 or even crew 10 vehicle that can do some really bonkers stuff, that could be fun and abuseable in constructed. And looking what we already have now, we have a 6 power vehicle that could be used to power an even more powerful vehicle, I really want to see a super powerful vehicle.
As for Fabricate, it's pretty vanilla but can be really good. Kinda reminds me of investigate, but I'm not sure we'll be getting a Tireless Tracker or Thraben Inspector for the mechanic to make it really worthwhile, but who knows.

But going forward if vehicles return, this allows them to have a more generally fitting border for them.

Can't tell if you're throwing me under the bus, but I like to think I've been pretty tame on that front, up to and including giving accolades to them myself, not complaining other than people who hog the mic and use up all the time.

For the black legend am i the only one who would prefer something like Nightveil specter so you can steal lands ?
People always want things to be more powerful.
This is way better than Nightveil Spectre because you can still play the card if it gets killed. The main reason to allow Nightveil Spectre to steal lands was to pay costs, which Goti makes irrelevant.
After hearing and seeing more I like it even less. The whole vehicle mechanic is silly and for me, personally, dosn't fit mtg. I also dislike the vehicle borders and the energy gimmick.
So far I'm very dissapointed.
Yea, we all know you're uncontent with everything in Magic
I thought Saheeli Rai was supposed to be a master artificer.
Why do her creations break after one use?
Aetherworks Marvel seems like a wonderful invention,
but it's invariably going to be used to summon an Eldrazi from a previous block,
or Bolas from the next block.
Whoever built this didn't want Kaladesh to last,
and I don't even think this is the matter transporter that's supposed to be the main invention of the fair.

How can an animated artifact even attack? Its ability gets turned off when you tap it! Get off my lawn!

I'm going to be using it to summon vampires in my casual Blood Artist deck!
I like everything they've shown so far. I don't care much about power. As long as the set is interesting and makes sense as a whole I'm down for it.
Didn't like Fabricate at first because it's so vanilla, but thinking about how it just fits well with Crew, the artifact theme etc. so I'm starting to grow fond of it.
One thing people didn't mention in the thread and might have missed if they didn't watch is that some storybased cards will now feature "mtgstory.com" in the bottom right corner of the frame to guide people to reading the online story segments reflected in those cards. Very small detail but notable

I get that - just saw the card in a vacuum. Still think it's crappy, but let's see what other cards will make engery.

edit: actually, i'd like it at 1cmc (again) but i should probably be realistic
