Lightning Bolt mercs her. She sucks boyos and is gonna be on that rotter time come rotation. Hoping for a good 3-drop Chandra for Red Skred. Hoping its this one because that art is hnnnnnnggggggg.
So this new Chandra is the flame of defiance. She is the leader of a rebellion and we are on an artifact plane.
she is clearly in red - but could she be multicoloured. Torch of defiance sounds boros to me?
I have the feeling they won't make any of the gatewatch characters multicolor at any time, but will have all new and secondary walkers as all multicolor, but that's just speculation on my part. I disagree with this particular Chandra sounding Boros because W is the one color most opposed to any kind of "defiance". It completely goes against their need to follow a code or law. If she was multicolor based on that name alone, she would have to be Rakdos, I don't see that happening personally.
You make a good point.
Currently, all the gatewatch characters are mono-color planeswalkers. I have a feeling that they will stay in mono-color for a long time.
the art aint bad, but since red is the most boring color to me, i do really feel no excitement at all about another red walker
I understand, even though red has always been my favorite color. When I started playing red could do everything it can now, minus planeswalkers, but also had land destruction, chaos cards (flip a coin type), warp cards, tutors, enchantments that something other than "do N damage when X happens". WotC went out of their way to make red boring, because it's abilities completely warped games, but only approximately half the time they were used. For years now it's been burn and haste, burn and haste.

I might add that, Chandra fire of Kaladesh actually doesn't only cost three, as she is the only flipwalker who forces you to invest more mana to flip her. She cannot flip without either pumping her when she attacks to untap her and ping, attack with her cast spell and ping, or cast two spells while pinging in between. So REALLY you invest a minimum of 4 mana to get the planeswalker side of her and a maximum of 2 times the most expensive red card in your deck plus 3 (if the top of your curve is five, you may invest up to 13 mana to put her out and flip her) So in reality, we still have never seen a 3 mana Chandra.
For years now it's been burn and haste, burn and haste.
Sadly true, which is why I really hope that Chandra will have abilities that actually deal damage for a +1 to any player or creature since that's what she should be doing; all the negative loyalty values I'm less concerned about though I would love to see card draw, exiling effects, permanent token creation, theft or something along those lines. Hell, I've love to see Chandra pull a Gideon and become a creature with haste & first strike. Or get even more creative and give some kind of permanent burn ability that deals 1 damage every turn to anything with a burn counter on it!
+1 up to one target creature gains menace until end of turn
0 Chandra becomes an X/X elemental creature until end of turn where x is equal to her loyalty with indestructible and menace
-5 deals 5 damage to target creature and 5 damage to that creatures controller
To those folks questioning if this is going to be the Planeswalker Deck Chandra or the set Chandra, please ask yourself the following:
Why would they hype up the marquis planeswalker of the set, spoiling her before everything else, to have it be the equivalent of an intro pack rare?
And when have they ever purposefully revealed the intro pack rares this early in spoiler season?

Because they want to promote the new Planeswalker decks, and this is a good way to do it. Intro pack rares were never very exciting to begin with (in fact, it's very disappointing when you open up your prerelease pack and your foil promo is Noosegraf Mob *sigh* true story) , but a new Planeswalker exclusive to the deck is.

yup, same here, I hope she's really, really good, I want to play a chandra with that art forever, be it in cube, edh or even modern. Magali has only started illustrating for magic since commander 2014, but if you look it up she did some pretty powerful cards already. Monastery mentor, new thalia, narset and linvala are the standouts. I also think wizards realized in the meantime that many really like her works, so hopefully they gave her a powerful chandra with this one.
Regarding color, I think she will most definitely be mono red. Seems to me they prefer the gatewatch characters retaining their monocolored idendity, hence preserving their role as that colors signature walker.
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.

I hadn't thought about that, but I can see it. good point
3 mana 2 loyalty -2 to destroy target non basic land please.
Sure, and while we're at it let's give her that +1: Broken Chandra deals 2 damage up to one target creature and 1 damage to you, ability too. 3-mana repeatable LD? That's absurdely busted, I hope you were kidding with that.
Well using the -2 the turn you cast her makes her a weaker Molten Rain and whatever her +1 is it wouldn't let you do two -2 in a row for a good amount of turns. T'wasn't a joke.
now that I think about it, being in an artifact block, and having her name be torch of defiance, I would expect at least one ability to be an artifact destruction, like smash to smithereens. so let me try again
3cmc 3 loyalty
+1: exile the top card of your library, you may play that card this turn
-2: smash to smithereens
-6: destroy all artifacts, then create a 6/1 elemental creature token with haste under your control for each artifact destroyed this way.
3 mana 2 loyalty -2 to destroy target non basic land please.

In a vacuum, yes, you're right, but it could become seriously annoying in formats with access to even more 3-mana LD spells, and with 4 copies in your deck what's stopping you from playing her in T3 or even T2 with acceleration, using the -2 ability and then blow up another land the next turn. Competitive viability aside this is exactly the kind of frustrating decks WOTC has been avoiding to enable ever since they phased out most if not all 3-CMC LD cards. That wouldn't see print today.

If her +1 gave card selection or an impulse draw instead of damage I think the card could work. Maybe even tweak the -2 so it's a +1 or 2 and keeps a land tapped until next turn and deals 2 damage if it's a non-basic.
Chandra
1RR
2 loyalty
+1 Target land doesn't untap during its owners next untap step. If it is non-basic it deals two damage to it's controller.
-2 Until your next turn whenever a creature attacks you or a planeswalker you control Chandra, Torch of Defiance deals 1 damage to that creature
-5 Something
But... her name makes me think she'll be more aggressive and hopefully more creative than I can come up with.
CMC 1 more than playability.
+ Flip a coin. Heads, Discard a card randomly, if it wasn't your favorite card draw a card, otherwise scoop. Tails, Deal one less damage than you'd like to, to target creature or player.
- Exile a card from your library, if you have enough mana to cast it, leave it in exile. Otherwise exile another card and destroy artifact, but only if opponents control no artifacts.
Ult: Almost kill your opponent, but still let them stabilize
That seems balanced for a red planeswalker.
In reality I'd love to see a low CMC red planeswalker that is competitive. Koth was amazing and I wish it existed outside of the CawBlade era, here's to hoping a Koth-esque power level planeswalker fits in the meta with Kaladesh.
Paaaahhh... there goes my speculation where Chandra doesn't really go to Kaladesh... so boring to have the Consul pegged as the evil antagonist (even if it can make sense) with Chandra leading the civilian revolution....
I don't think that's what's going to happen. Baan mentioned that one of the inventors at the fair has a submission that might be classified as "a new order of artifice". Baan isn't the type to say something like that lightly. It's going to be rise of the machines.
They are going to open a gate to New Phyrexia, aren't they? *sigh*
Most likely not. With the next major returning villain being revealed already I expect this block to be a rather self-contained story with some development of individual character arcs (Chandra resolving her childhood trauma; Liliana getting to be good enough of a team player to convince the Gatewatch to hunt for her next demon liege; Nissa doing anything interesting at all after the rather weak sideplot of BFZ-block... I really want her to be more enjoyable).

[thread=239793][Game] Level Up - Creature[/thread]
My body is ready for an actual, legitimately good Chandra planeswalker card. Chandra, Flamecaller was close but she was really just a 1-of finisher in a lot of decks. She was better than basically every Chandra before her, but there's still room to improve. Here's hopin' this is the one.
Also that art is gorgeous and I hope it looks as good as I imagine in foil.
The name does suggest a more aggro version, so having this archetype and being an avid Boros player in modern, i would love to see something like this.
Chandra, Torch of Defiance1RR
Planeswalker- Chandra (MR)
+1: Until the beggining of your next turn, creatures and artifacts your opponents control enter the battlefield tapped.
0: Discard a card. If a red card or mountain was discarded this way, draw a card.
-2: Chandra, Torch of Defiance deals 3 damage to target player.
Loyalty Counters: 3
Mini analysis:
1) Aka ''Urabrask the Hidden's little half-sister''. Since she most likely will be the spirit of the resistance, bringing discomfort to the opponents sounds right to me.
2) Aka ''Rummaging Goblin' biased pretty cousin''. When you need to find just that one card and care for nothing else.
3) Aka ''Lightning Bolt you's beloved wife''. When steps 1 and 2 fail, all red mages resort to the their favourite burn spell, in this case Lava Spike, because we all know Chandra has the wisdom of the kami.
Why would Chandra not be a burn planeswalker? That is her entire thing. She isn't, and has never been the "Mixed bag of everything red can do" planeswalker. Why would she start now?

Freedom fighters would be B: the color of individual > society
Chandra's being manipulated by Liliana.
Dual color in kaladesh' sonny chance is Rakdos, Boros makes no sense.
+1 Target land doesn't untap during its owners next untap step. If it is non-basic it deals two damage to it's controller.
That ability wouldn't be allowed today either I think, a potentially crippling color screw, a massive tempo loss plus damage as a repeatable effect shouldn't grow a PW on top of that. Tamiyo's tapping ability can't affect lands and it's stil a minus-loyalty effect, on a 4-mana three color PW.
