That's fine, it'd be hard to see this cost less than MM2015 which wasn't really that worth it because of the junk rare potential. I would like my super frugal buds to be able to jump in on a draft or something without costing them a ton. Bottom line is that it's always a gamble right, and that means that you could crack more than the EV of a box and you could crack jank.
Well, given the colors of the set they either are printing Noble Hierarch or yet another Birds of Paradise. It would be interesting if they printed both mana fixers and set Birds of Paradise at uncommon, but that doesn't seem likely.
There's a legit argument for Hierarch due to the Bant subtheme in a way, as they printed Shardlands, but I'm expecting Birds again at rare. Not a bad rare, but it's not Hierarch.
Also due to Conflux block wedges, which would support bant, among the others. Yeah I mean Hierarch could use another reprint based on the current price after the MM2015 print, and Birds is just a good base line that's had almost too many reprints - and it still has rebounded despite the multiple printings. ON the other hand printing a new art BoP would be unreal, like a Raymond Swanland or something.
As someone who generally tends to give wizards the benefit of the doubt, even I was appalled by MM15, and it seems they have learned their lesson. Even though a few garbage rares will trickle out as the set is completely spoiled, this is already a massive improvement.
I'm starting to wonder if maybe RTR and Innistrad blocks just had better options than Scars and Zendikar? ... nah i think they just f***ed up.
What would really blow things out of the water is a reprint of Bloom Tender alongside Birds of Paradise or Noble Hierarch. The former could probably be downshifted to uncommon given it's power level is nowhere near the level of other mana fixers in modern.

1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
Within the context of the set, bloom tender would be excellent as a rare and utterly stupid at uncommon. The set has clearly got 3 colour gold as a feature and dropping bloom tender into a gold card is way too good for limited. I'd be absolutely stoked for it to be a rare though, that card is way too expensive.

Yeah Bloom Tender would be a great reprint as well. The price is high and the circulation is low. Definitely a decent reprint, new art could imply that it fits, thematically, with an alara shard (Naya/Jund). I'm all about the alt arts man. I'm not entirely with you on the down-rarity of BoP but it has seen it's fair share or reprints though.
Bloom Tender would be fantastic imo. I'd still prefer Hierarch, but Bloom Tender is a way better second choice, well above BoP imo. Birds has so many printings that it's kinda gotten stale imo.
Welp, 3 days in so far and my preorder from this 130k feedback seller is holding strong. With TCG prices rising everyday, (now at 220) my 174.50 boxes are looking extremely fragile to hold, but I believe!
The only thing I need to see that would completely satisfy me is Cavern. Unfortunately it will be mythic, mark my words. But if I see it, wizards just shut up and take all my money
More like "make modern accessible again". The format was a madhouse to enter into with all those fetches above 50 usd a piece and some sideboard staples hitting over 40.

ok, I gripe a lot about Wizards and the choices they make, because they seem to make mostly stupid choices, especially where Modern is concerned. I say this so hopefully what i have to say next will mean something.
This set is BRILLIANT! obviously there are a lot of cards left to see, some i expect or at least hope to see, and a lot of chaff of course, but at the time of this writing, there are 78 cards I have been made aware of, i want 20 of them in various numbers and hope to get most of them without too much trouble. for reference, when the dust settled and the full list was out for 2015 there were 23 cards i wanted at the time (I keep a record). 23, total. my interests have changed and given that i have played this format since shortly after it was created i SHOULD have had some of these cards already, both last time and now, but seriously, unless the remainder of this set is the kick in the gut that everything after Voice was for Maze, this set is going to blow MM2 out of the water. if the print run rumors are true, I predict that this WILL actually be the last MM set because so many players will be in a position to leave Standard

Project Booster Fun makes it less fun to open a booster.
I still don't know how to properly read the situation. The combination of cutting down on modern events, minimal hype for the set, and then the set being the greatest thing since sliced bread is just weird.
Less events promoting the format, but we're making it more accessible?
Were our voices heard after the last release or is this the grand finale?

Nothing wrong with this. As a non-rotating format, Modern essentially goes against the business model of MTG for WotC (which relies on rotation) and can never be a "main format". So we have to pick a poison of either not having cardboard support or tournament support (and marketing) because if we have both, we eclipse Standard and WoTC is either forced to power creep all their sets (think YGO) or artificially rotate the format through bans.
This combination of actions is precisely WotC responding to our voices to "switch poison vials". I don't think this is the grand finale regarding reprints as long as we don't go clamoring for Modern PTs again and/or expect marketing to be advertising Modern as much as they do for Standard, because if somehow they actually thought we want to "switch poison vials" again, they'll have to artificially dry up the supply of Modern cards again before raising marketing, which will be more detrimental to the format.
Knowing the player base though, there will be definitely some vocals that think we can really have both and go on complaining about why we don't have Pro Tours some time again the future. Hopefully WotC (remember they're still an organization and power inside may change hands) remembers that why they switched poison in the first place and don't just blindly follow feedback because it will always tilt vocally when we have one benefit but not the other.
That doesn't mean the format is dead though, WotC is unlikely to drop further support for the format already, so it's basically up to the community to keep it alive via FNM-levels and perhaps we could convince WoTC eventually to have perhaps a couple more GP Modern weekends over the next few years (instead of a mere 2 or 3 per year). At least we have some degree of control (since they gave us FNM control) when we pick this choice rather than the other way around.
End of a cycle for Modern, yes. But we have a better staying power future much like EDH, something Legacy never got the chance because they screwed up that badly the first time round.

If they print Cavern of Souls I will be content and not care about anything else. They could print 200 Comet Storms and I wouldn't care. Aether Vial or Chalice of the Void would be great, but Cavern of Souls is the one card I want. It's insane how much value this set currently has.
There are other considerations. Vengevine is a Mythic.
So far we've patterned one "good", one "bad" for each mono color. I'd like to think that Behemoth may be our "good". Thrun and Vengevine aren't horrible choices for "bad".
(Good and bad quotes purely indicate monetary value and not whether card is good)
Why are they so coi about the last green mythic? It has to be goyf.
Noble is also a fine bet, and more in line with the rest of the set's value already presented i think.
I won't say Noble isn't in the set, but he'll be a rare. He's already climbed back up to high values, and he was a rare in the last MM. Putting him at Mythic is unprecedented. I don't know of any rare to Mythic shift from one MM to another.
