The problem with MM2017 is the box art and pack art card reveals. Even if the set is really good, putting low value cards on the card art is not screaming "buy me!" to the magic community. Under better circumstances this probably wouldn't matter, but they've been pitching misses for the last year and everyone is getting wary of WoTC making smart decisions with their sets. The cards they should have put on pack art are Voice of Resurgence, Liliana of the Veil, and Snapcaster mage. If they did that people would be a bit more confident in pre-ordering boxes.
Otherwise it feels like someone is doing the trust game where you have a complete stranger at your back and you fall backwards, hoping they catch you. My confidence level in Wizards is at the level of "I'm falling backwards while he's watching the Television eating a burger."
I just want WoTC to prove myself and many others wrong about them and do good releases.
I don't see that as a problem. In fact I see that as a solution, or at least a first step in the correct direction.
Modern has been suffering from a "Too much hype when actual motivation to support the format isn't as high as its marketing suggests". It's very obvious by now that Modern is never going to get the same level of support that Standard gets (it was actually obvious from the start considering the profit-structure is based mainly on rotation and non-rotating formats by nature go against that, but never mind about that, WotC has more or less literally made that statement through a combination of subtle messages and actions over the past few years).
So, since they won't meet those expectations, it's only natural to reduce the hype for the format instead. I wouldn't say the past hype created is a total waste, it at least established Modern as A format (just not THE format) to some degree, something Legacy never got to benefit from because they screwed up the first time so badly we can't even get foil Phyrexian Negators printed now.
Not to say the whole format's in roses now (and even it was there are thorns), but I feel the subduing the marketing for the product itself is a fine choice, especially considering the Limited Print Runs it is on. There are still actual problems elsewhere (let's hope MM3 is at least as good as EMA, if not MM1, but nowhere close to the disaster that was MM2), but if anything the marketing itself is headed towards the correct direction - Modern doesn't need more glory than what it would be actually allocated in the practical grand scheme of everything.
Here's hoping we have reason to be. I need to see reprints of Liliana, Snapcaster Mage, Goblin Guide, and Kitchen Finks. Would love to see reprints of Scapeshift, Crucible of Worlds, Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas, Linvala, Horizon Canopy, Damnation, Through the Breach, Craterhoof Behemoth, and Noble Hierarch. We'll see.
I'll hazard a guess, from those you will see Snappy and Guide.
I think it would be really cool if they did something like this:
Every pack contains a random dual land, which could be common or rare, kind of like Dragon's Maze and Fate Reforged. They could keep it simple and just go with Tapland/Fetchland, or they could include every single dual land cycle in modern history, which would be a disaster from the printer's point of view, but it would be super awesome for us...
Masters sets thus far have had a guaranteed foil spot rather than a Basic Land spot, so this seems extra unlikely.

TCC just posted a tweet that might be hinting at his spoiler card being LotV. His spoiler card comes out tomorrow at 1EST/10amPST.
There's a crap-load of Lili planeswalkers... not all of them with the veil.
Assuming the spoiler card has art, it would be recognizable though even with different art. LotV is the only eligible Lily without the tattoos. (I know that's what what they're called but I can't remember the actual word.)
I guess you could do post-INN art for Vess, but seems unlikely.

I just saw someone mention that damnation is unlikely because of griselbrand being a mythic and lily most likely being the other. I feel that with griselbrand spoiled it makes damnation ever more likely because damnation would fit well with an angel/demon theme. Could we see damnation at rare?
Value is good. But Dredgevine isn't supposed to be about value. It's supposed to be about V-8; 2000 pounds of nitro boosted war vegetables. The more velocity, the better.

Seriously what's with everybody thinking damnation would be made as mythic?
If it's reprinted its going to be rare no matter what.
In interested in knowing what cards fit into the archetypes they presented to us.
UW - Blink (Just good stuff, i guess.)
UB - Instant control (A big sign for Snapcaster Mage, as well as Flash-Matter cards e.g. Glen Elendra Pranksters and Mystical Teachings)(Seems like Modern Masters original Faerie theme could return as a subtheme)
BR - Unearth Aggro (With only 14 red/black cards with unearth? Maybe with Goryo's Vengeance as Rare and Through the Breach at Mythic, but what legends would make any sense? Urabrask the Hidden, Sheoldred, Whispering One?)
RG - Go Wide (WTF? I've no idea here besides Boartusk Liege)
GW - Populate (With only 13 cards? Very simple and boring i think. Only Growing Ranks in uncommon could make this limited playable in my opinion.)

Wow, gates and shard lands? So basically the same amount of fixing as KTK, without the crazy wedge-gold theme? Gonna be a lot of 4 and 5 color goodstuff decks in draft.
after a shord research sesson i could see following cards as the shard rares:
Bant: Stoic Angel (Confirmed)
Esper: Magister Sphinx (Seems perfect for Blink and as a finisher, even without Flash)
Grixis: Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker; or Cruel Ultimatum (No instant that returns a creature, but ultimatum is clearly a control card and redicolus in this draft environment, i think; Bolas just as good stuff and freaky for Dark Intimations)
Jund: Madrush Cyclops (Only serious option for me.)
Naya: Titanic Ultimatum (Sorry, but this seems to combine both archetypes at best, would still be a sad feeling to open it in draft, though.)
Wizards has been pretty clear through their behavior--and words too, if I'm not mistaken--that Planeswalkers aren't happening at rare. So no Nicol Bolas--especially in light of the fact that he'll probably get a PW card in Amonkhet or Hour of Devastation.

I hope not.

agreed. all of my decks include at least 4 or 5 cards a piece from the 3 sets (including eternal masters).

The bulk of the value is going to be at rare and uncommon. I'm actually expecting a LOT of chaff in the mythic slots.
sedris, the traitor king as a mythic maybe?
there could just be some eldrazi like pathrazer of ulamog for the unearth strategy.
