I bet the majority of cards will appeal to commander. the recent decline of actual modern support makes me question why even do this set? then I think of commander value. getting one of something is value when chucked in a singleton deck. unless there is news saying this isn't a limited run so more players can get access to modern cards to start playing the format more.
So they can pat themselves on the back and come to us with the "see guys, we tried but we can't, now hurry up and go play some Standard" bull***** before officially pulling the plug on Modern. Like Rudy said in the video posted a few comments ago, the fact that a company's marketing department hasn't even remotely hyped up the product makes the whole thing seem sketchy.
if they pull the plug on Modern after they make their money from this set, I could see a lawsuit from anyone who bought it. they don't need muchtournament support as far as I am concerned, but if they stop the sanctioned weekly Modern at my LGS I will not be going to Standard, it will be EDH and I will not only NEVER buy sealed product again, I will never buy a card in Standard. Wizards can'tpander to collectors with $100+ Goyf while they kill a format

Project Booster Fun makes it less fun to open a booster.
Pre-orders going for 180 but I'm highly recommending not to pre-order. From one angle modern is very weak on official tournament support going forward, and on the other end if the box ev is way above the msrp we can expect a lot of pre-order cancellations from eBay and other stores.
Not to mention they printed a lot of boxes. It is not even a vpn product.
Pre-ordering anything from eBay is always a gamble if you're not dealing with a reputable seller. I only pre-order from my LGS; in the rare event that your LGS ever cancels your pre-order then you know it's time to find a new one. And where are you getting this information that MM17 won't be a WPN product? You've used the term "VPN" in two different posts and I'm inclined to believe that you have no idea what you're talking about.
It's the auto correct on the phone. Just tried it again and it is doing VPN instead of WPN. I suppose you missed one of the posts where another poster noticed the word "urban" instead of "unban". Good going technology.
Honestly, I'm more bothered by the fact you are allowing a spelling error to make you think someone doesn't know what they are talking about. I suppose people with dyslexia are untrustworthy to you? And yes, that bothers me because one of my best friends is dyslexic.

No. The reason I don't think you know what you're talking about is due to the fact that you can't provide a source supporting your claim that MM17 won't be a WPN product. I'd genuinely like to see where this information is coming from since that would be a pretty big deal if it were true. Until then, it sounds like a bunch of bologna.

I gave the sources over in the modern forum so it's up to you if you want to believe it or not. My suggestion is go ask your own store about it assuming you have the rapport with your LGS owner. The box distributions are not the typical WPN allocations right now going off of what it was like with the last From the Vault or even Eternal Masters. I actually think it's a good thing that they may be getting rid of WPN for sets since a lot of people are just skirting around the WPN restrictions anyway and have been for years. The system just didn't work very well.

I'm never as interested in the expensive cards as I am the fairly cheap cards that I need for decks to be reprinted, like Predator Ooze and Conjurer's Closet.
How do we know this isn't just baseless speculation?
It wouldn't be the first time we've seen one big Magic site/store decrease/raise the price of a card(s) from early information. Sure this could just be a coincidence, but it isn't outside the realm of impossibility.
To take this topic up again, we're seeing a lot of suspicious price changes right now. Crucible, Karn, Elesh Norn, Blood Moon and Mox Opal all spike, while Liliana, Noble Hierarch, Runed Halo, Ancestral Vision and Academy Ruis dip in price. If there is insider information around (which I honestly find likely), these changes could indicate what is and isn't in the set.

Even here in europe edh seems to have grown tremendously over the last few months, so I wouldn't be surprised if some vendors and/or players were picking up extra copies of crucible and elesh norn, which are both great in the format. Mox opals and chalices spike is both due to the sram deck I'd say, both for being excellent in the deck, in opals case, and great against the deck if we're talking about chalice. As for blood moon and Karn, I don't know what could cause that movement.
About the dips in price, well, is runed halo really becoming less expensive? I checked it over on magiccardmarket.eu and the graph says the opposite (our shop has just been bought out over the last weeks as well). Couldn't the reason for a spike due to insider info just before mm announcement also work in the opposite way? To artificially increase the price and sell inflated just before release, because you know it'll drop after the reprint I mean. Just my thoughts on this
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.

Watch buylists too.
It was well-documented that SCG jacked up their buylist offer on the Zendikar fetches 2-3 months before MM15 was released.

I don't have concrete numbers, but I work at my lgs and the vast, vast majority of european online orders we get are for edh, be it singles or commander decks. standard price-spikes and hot cards aside, a lot of older random bulk cards on magiccardmarket which are playable in edh got more and more expensive as time went on, which is a sign of edh's growth, I'd say.
I edited my other post a bit, I'm not fond of speaking in absolutes. It's just my impression of how the format is doing.

To be honest, we may be looking at a permanent change in the way players primarily play the game now world wide. Modern will probably still hang around, but given how much support a tournament format needs and the lack of support being granted by the parent company there's likely going to be a lot more people building towards EDH decks than modern or even standard right now. We may also be looking at a brand new format coming in two years from now as well if Wizards decides it's time to move on to the next non-rotating format after so many years of modern.

This is unlikely considering it is moving in a trend that only reinforces previous trends. The primary method of play through out the world is and has always been casual/kitchen table magic. With the highest tournament numbers being standard then limited. The trend you speak of is people noticing this not an actual shift in how magic is played. EDH is definitely on an uptick and probably the most popular casual format(because kitchen table isn't really a format).
Modern isn't going anywhere and a new format is probably 5 or more years in the future unless frontier actually takes off as a fan favorite.
I'm not worried about Modern as a format --- I am worried about MM2017 though. Of course there are some high profile rares that are certainly going to be in, but for me it always comes down to the uncommons. There's no way I'll crack boxes, or even packs, if the uncommons aren't worth it.
I don't think anyone is worried about a format as much as if a product bing printed is even worth purchasing. Stores got hosed really badly the last few months and the prices of mm 2017 reflect this.
Also, when the costs of edh cards rise, that brings more attention to that format just by the nature of player card purchases on the secondary market.
What I meant earlier is that you will see fewer people playing modern at fnm in the future since wizards is not promoting the format like they used to. So where are those players going in terms of format?

I honestly would not be surprised if this is a complete hodgepodge of crap that has next to no monetary value - wizards realized too late that modern was dead, and by the time they decided to officially kill the format they'd sunk too much money into this. So we'll get a ton of super safe reprints that do nothing, allowing them to quietly retire the format and fully convert themselves to "standard is the only format that matters, anything that rotates out only has value to collectors." and have the whole thing as a psuedo-reserved list scenario.
After all, if old cards aren't legal in any tournament setting, then their prices will surely crash, right? [/s]

commander, which is essentially the new modern 2.0
How? You`re comparing apples and oranges.
modern draws on a huge pool of current framed cards to play from, so does commander. although its singleton, the creativity is the same. look through magics history and build. how can you not see the similarities?
I'm in Canada and have also seen all my friends and LGS migrating to commander. my local store is finding old commander product just to bring in because they know it's selling. most people are hunting store stock not for modern builds but for commander builds. I'm sure the stores love it aswell ! finally players digging through old stock and taking it away. it's a win win if you ask me
No, thankfully that is only ONE of the two walkers. Still, the fact they wasted a slot on Domri Rade is pretty much making me think this is another MM 2015 unless they really put needed reprints in the set. If the only thing of major worth in the entire box is Liliana, Snapcaster, and Zendikar fetchlands we're in for some trouble because none of the stores are going to make money on their orders for a good long while. The zendikar fetchlands might help push box sales, but you need good cards to fill the entire box out with or that is putting way too much of that 240 msrp value into a few good rares and mythics.

But domi rade and sotic angel that's got a red alert on this set is going to suck
There one problem with e theory of snapcaster mage on the box where is the monocle on his eye the art had him wearing a monocle.
If the reprint has new art they may have just decided to get rid of the monocle. I mean does the modern masters reprint of Dark Confidant really look like the original? Did the EMA force of will look like the original? not really.

The death of the format talk is, hilarious. People where far more excited about Modern/Magic then they have been for...quite some time. Wizards doesnt need to even promote Modern, sell some packs reprints every other year, sell new sets with Pushed cards, have a GP every now and again, and keep people playing Magic.
