How do we know this isn't just baseless speculation?
The Chalice spike literally wiped out every non-foil copy on TCGplayer in less than 48 hours. That's one of those flukey patterns that doesn't happen from baseless speculation. Many players don't quite grasp just how lucrative the secondary market is; if there's money to be had then it's not a matter of if a system is exploited, but a matter of when. Based on the numerous reports from past WoTC employees citing sub-par wages, I wouldn't be surprised if someone with knowledge of the set leaked out details in exchange for monetary compensation. It's naive to think there's zero "insider trading" going on in the secondary market. Money is a powerful motivator.
I lived in the city where tcg player is for most of my life, and to tell you the truth, people in Syracuse always seemed to have some insider information that came from who knows where well before I have seen it on these sites. And even though its just speculation, they almost always turned out right. I would not be surprised if this is not a fluke but is for real.
Apparently, they work around a year out on supplemental sets. According to price history on mtggoldfish, Chalice spiked from around 17-18USD to around 50USD after Pro Tour Oath of the Gatewatch before settling in the region of 40USD for a long while after that.
The timing here could be so that they didn't see, or didn't have time to act on, the Eldrazi-induced spike, and thus saw no particular reason to include a card that had already had one reprinting in original MM.
It is also possible of course that they did see it, but had other things they chose over it. MM had 6 rare artifacts and MM2015 had 9, so there isn't infinite room.
has there seriously been no leaks yet? generally we at least have a couple fuzzy pictures of cards by now. no pictures of the packs even? they must have fired or blocked so many people who used to see this stuff.by this long before FRF spoilers officially starting we already had Ugin!

Project Booster Fun makes it less fun to open a booster.
I don't know if this information has been posted yet but from what I gather while my LGS that has insider information and a huge online presense was making purchases, the amount of MM17 product is going to be double the starting amount of Eternal Masters. Instead of making print 1 and then print 2 they are making print 1 and 2 to start with which caused the purchase of a thousand boxes from a number of distributors to be way too easy.
This is causing box prices to be initially sold at around the $180-190 mark because they know they are going to have a ridiculous load of product. My LGS has told me personally that I will not need to worry about a product scarcity and that in turn the level of product availability is going to make what is printed nose dive. He said he would have so much of it I'd literally be sick of buying it before he runs out.
I am very interested to see how they work out the mythics for this set.
When you look back at MM15 and take out the 4 mythic reprints (Goyf, Bob, Kiki-Jiki, Clique), 9 of the 11 remaining cards were from sets not included in the original MM set, and Bitterblossom had been recently unbanned. Tezzeret was the only true throwback out of the new additions.
But when looking at 2017 and the additions of M13 and RTR block, what mythics would they even throw in beyond Voice of Resurgence? Jace AOT? Aurelia? Omniscience?
Path to Exile really needs a reprint. I would almost expect it to be in this set. $11 a piece is ridiculous. It would be a perfect uncommon in this set and based on the fact that they have reprinted the crap out of Swords to Plowsharesrecently, I would expect a run of it as well
If they honestly would bring the price down on these packs to a regular MSRP level I'd be more inclined buy a few packs or a box if I felt especially fiscally irresponsible, but when a pack is over double the price of a normal pack and printed in a limited run fashion who exactly are you trying to help? It doesn't cost any more to print that cardboard than a main line set. The EV has always been pretty bad for these sets so as much as I'd like to love the set (My commander decks are hungry) I usually buy a pack for the lulz and then never look at it again. Hopefully we get some kind of info to change my mind, but I doubt it.

So is that supposed to mean that the print runs of the two sets are the same, with the only difference being how much product is allocated all at once?
That's not saying much. There have literally been only two modern masters sets so far and one of them, MM13, has a stupid high EV. Hell, even if you lump in Eternal Masters then that still doesn't make any sense considering you can get a box of EM for ~$180 and that's a great value. MM15 is the worst of the bunch and most likely won't fare much better once MM17 is released, assuming Noble Hierarch sees a reprint.

That would be most excellent. I just hope that this is true not just in the biggest stores, my LGS has gotten very small amounts of previous master sets and I would like to support them in a draft. If the supply is high enough that the product is sold at msrp that would really help. I want singles to go down but it is harder to do that the fewer people you have who can afford to open it. I hate being gouged

Apparently my memory is terrible. I remember MM15 being terrible and doing some quick mtg stocks search, EV of MM13 is great. Still I have been a bit underwhelmed by MM15 and EM so here's hoping this fares better.
Personally instead of every pack gaurentees a foil it should be every pack gaurentees a rare land like fetches shocks burrows cavern ink moth horizon canopy etc

That is the story all over the place. The sad thing is the cards in it will likely be really good if they learned from MM15. We can definitely expect snap caster and liliana, and I'm surprised Liliana is holding at all. People must have price memory locked in like rigid steel poles in the arctic and got their tongues stuck on it.

So this puts the print run of MM3 to what? Less than MM2, but far more than EMA?
Apparently my memory is terrible. I remember MM15 being terrible and doing some quick mtg stocks search, EV of MM13 is great. Still I have been a bit underwhelmed by MM15 and EM so here's hoping this fares better.
Oh MM2 was certainly terrible, EMA was terrible for its print run (up until recently) and it having cards only slightly better than MM2, and MM1's problem was print run although that was thanks to first attempt type things.
MM3 better "Wow!" else I'd rather be looking forward to Conspiracy 3 rather than any more of the Masters line. Weird how Conspiracy 2 did far better in the reprint department than anything else has for a long time.
Pre-orders going for 180 but I'm highly recommending not to pre-order. From one angle modern is very weak on official tournament support going forward, and on the other end if the box ev is way above the msrp we can expect a lot of pre-order cancellations from eBay and other stores.
Not to mention they printed a lot of boxes. It is not even a vpn product.

I don't know anything about an additional run afterwards. If I remember correctly MM1 had only the initial run, MM2 had the larger initial run and that's it. Now they will have a double initial run. My guess would be that is it however there is no initial fear of limited product so I'd you want to buy those chase rares let the price settle in it's second week and get them.
I bet the majority of cards will appeal to commander. the recent decline of actual modern support makes me question why even do this set? then I think of commander value. getting one of something is value when chucked in a singleton deck. unless there is news saying this isn't a limited run so more players can get access to modern cards to start playing the format more.

Pre-ordering anything from eBay is always a gamble if you're not dealing with a reputable seller. I only pre-order from my LGS; in the rare event that your LGS ever cancels your pre-order then you know it's time to find a new one. And where are you getting this information that MM17 won't be a WPN product? You've used the term "VPN" in two different posts and I'm inclined to believe that you have no idea what you're talking about.

So they can pat themselves on the back and come to us with the "see guys, we tried but we can't, now hurry up and go play some Standard" bull***** before officially pulling the plug on Modern. Like Rudy said in the video posted a few comments ago, the fact that a company's marketing department hasn't even remotely hyped up the product makes the whole thing seem sketchy.
