I loved Archenemy last time around. Interesting that they're doing the product as one $60 set as opposed to selling the decks individually. Hopefully the reprints are decent.
The set contains four 60-card decks (with no new card content), four non-premium planeswalker cards with new art, and a 20-card scheme deck containing 20 all-new, unique schemes. Playable right out of the box without any additions!
Disappointing, but hopefully some good reprints for EDH. Maybe Karn Liberated reprint.
I'm very happy for more schemes, but very disappointed that there are no new cards. It was great that they made surge cards in OGW, but I was really hoping for teammate cards/mechanics in this. Especially since the last Plancechase gave us new cards, it's a real let-down.

I think that maybe wizards received a lot of bad customer feedback for the exclusive cards in planechase 2012; availability problems, and spikes tearing the decks to shreds trying to get at shardless agent, baleful strix, and maelstrom wanderer.

It was worse for some of the Commander decks. They have had to change the distribution of cards and type of cards they make for these kind of products. They aren't going to stop making cards for Commander, so it's not like they are stopping. I can't see how cards that care about teammates would end up in eternal format decklists.
I'm pretty sure Planechase 2012 got a reprinting, but they were certainly available for a while at big box stores. Now that they are doing a single set, instead of 4, you don't have the True-Name Nemesis problem either.
Maybe COM is such a breakaway with sales comparatively they just don't want to put resources into new cards in other products. It just seems like a missed opportunity.
I guess they come in a set now, not sure if I like that better or worse than having 4 different archenemy decks. I actually had a lot of fun as the archenemy though, it got me started building artifact based decks, so in a way I suppose i'm looking forward to this. It could be fun.
Not sure how much I like that it's based around Planeswalkers, but I guess it makes sense from a marketing perspective.
Even if it says no new cards, there may still be worthy reprints.
Maaaaybe, but I'd temper those expectations if I were you.
These are essentially four Planeswalker Duel Decks in a single package.
The planeswalker cards alone will probably eat an enormous chunk of the potential value.
That said, they can still reprint "cheap" stuff that needs it,
like Tainted Peak, Stasis (one way to even the playing field of this ridiculous format) and Skyshroud Claim (no, I will never stop asking for that until they reprint it!)

I love this idea. Bolas not only makes perfect sense as an archenemy, but I think attaching an actual villain theme to archenemy gives it some flavor it was sorely lacking with the vague/generic villain concepts on most cards.
Could be reprinted cards that are not yet printed, though, like from the spring set. And even without new surge cards, that doesn't mean no surge cards.
Imagine if we get the first Chandra, Jace, and Gideon as reprint Planeswalkers to battle Nicol.
The four decks will likely correspond to each planeswalker. That is some good flavor.
If the actual selling prices remain the same then it would be a decent buy. I'm guessing the same level as buying 2 duel decks.
$60 for 4 decks +extras means that the decks will be either at or below duel deck power. So- pretty bad. I'm guessing the face planeswalkers will be pretty basic versions of some of the originals (read: no JTMS). Probably would buy because you just get so much stuff.

Given Bolas is Grixis I would expect Nissa, Gideon, and someone else, as White/Green should be represented. Doesn't have to be those two I suppose, but it's likely the Gatewatch.

disappointing
