When I look at it,
The god guy doesn't look like a statue but an actual creature\god\giant... interesting , just walking around it seems
The plane looks beautiful. Great colors and style. Maybe bolas is a decent guy here (hahahahaha)
I see a possible new vehicle....the boat
I agree the arm clothes from nightmarish end ashiok and the rem guy look very very similar.
Here's the thing, Ashiok was always suspected to be Egyptian. We know they were trying to create gods on Theros for unknown reasons. We know Amonkhet is now the only other plane where gods play a prominent role, and that there are trials of the five gods to prove themselves 'worthy'. We know it's all a set-up by Bolas. Connecting the dots, if Ashiok had an agenda for Amonkhet and was testing/learning on Theros how to deal with/create gods, it'd be a great connection if true.
So... What if Ashiok learned the nature of gods in Amonkhet and wanted to experiment on a remote plane out of Bolas' sight (Theros) to make preparation ot either take over or liberate Amonkhet from Bolas?
Damn, that would be a turn of event I would like to see in the new block
I really hope this is the storyline...Bolas is running amuck and the gatewatch arrives and is defeated by bolas showing that they are not an all powerful force, but in his distraction Ashiok is able to rally the people to overthrow bolas; or remove the people's belief in his Godlike status so that we can see The Gatewatch fail, because it is bad story telling if they always win; Bolas be powerful in that he defeated that gatewatch, but not all powerful in that he did not obtain his actual objective (whatever that may have been); and give us a new and interesting Plane that is also set up for a return to block as it will be in a state of transformation of Bolas worship to whatever new gods that Ashiok can empower to save/balance the Plane.

I also think the Gatewatch failing here will likely happen. Them failing also allows them to go to the next plane, likely a return plane(crossing fingers for Theros) to try and get allies and support from other planeswalkers to fight Bolas and his schemes something that would make a lot more sense should they fail here.
I'd definitely be interested in seeing more of a true antihero style of walker. Lili isn't so much an antihero as she is just using the gatewatch for her own ends. The above ideas coil definitely set Ashiok up as a non-gatewatch anti-hero that could even push Ashiok into Esper. Which would satiate all the people that will be salty when Tezz turns turns to not be.
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.

I think you are overvaluing wizard storytelling capabilities. First of all Ashiok was never an anti-hero. He tortured innocent people and allied with Phenax. So i don't think that this godslayer personality fits him.
Second, the Gatewatch will never fail. They destroyed Eldrazi with a snap of their fingers, they won't lose on Amonkhet
Maybe Ashiok just wants to saize control over Amonkhet? Empower a god so he can easily deal with bolas, call it a day when he controls that god to ensure people will be loyal to hin...
I'm thrilled to see Jackalfolk and Aven, but I'm a little concerned that we haven't seen any Catfolk so far. They've got to be in Amonkhet, Cats are one of Egypt's iconic creatures and Bastet is one of the most popular Egyptian deities, surpassed only by Anubis.
That said, we're totally going to see a Jackalfolk PW as the face of the block, aren't we? Thing is, most would expect one to be a necromancer, but Liliana is most likely going to fill that role for the block. A WU Aven PW would be cool.
Hour of Devastation makes me think of Egypt-inspired metal music.
MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.

Jackal PW would be mtgs Goldar then, which means his immediate defeat will be the next unnecessary egostroke for the ever victorious power rangers gatewatch. I'd rather see him be the WB god instead, hybrid colored this time. I'd love to see a hybrid UW 'Horus' on that note.
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.
I'm not saying Ashiok isn't from Amonkhet (it's my guess too, actually), but a kinda similar shoulderpiece doesn't exactly confirm it for me.
The main Ashiok art is actually not a good example. Look at Nightmarish End.

Kind of late, but how is Amonkhet the only other plane where gods play a prominent role? Unless you mean Creature Type - God that doesn't seem accurate at all with Kamigawa, and I doubt that these two are the only planes they'll use it on. Doesn't change that Ashiok may be from here, but still seems odd. Could also just be Ashiok likes the clothing though.

Altough I fear you're right that the gatewatch won't loose in near future, I think Bolas will be a much stronger enemy than at least Ulamog and Kozilek. Also you should remember that the gatewatch probably won't have such an advantage on Amonkhet as they had on Zendikar through Nissa.

I apologize for my English, it's not my main language.
I wonder if we'll see the gathering of an Anti-Jacetus league of Planeswalkers with this? We know Bolos manipulates PWs to do his bidding, and it feels like there may be a number over there. (Vraska, Tezzie, possibly Ashiok).
It's also a set where the Oath PW Enchantments would have rotated out by. If they set up a League of Evil, maybe we could see some "Curse" planeswalker enchantments to counter the oaths of the Gatewatch?
Any thoughts on what this set's Masterpieces will be? We've had Lands and Artifacts so far. Masterpiece Creatures might work; "ancient creatures told of by the Gods and brought to life by the beliefs of the people" sort of thing.
Is there going to be Cleric-tribal stuff? I hope so. I don't think Shaman is going to be a card-type for the tribal stuff. I wonder what the tribal support will be in this block?
I wouldn't mind Bolas losing. To this day I have no idea what his motivation is. Seems like a super bland villain. Bring back epic story lines like the Brothers War/Weatherlight please.

I could easily be wrong, but I believe his current motivation is getting back the power he lost from when Planeswalkers changed.
Crew is an incredible terrible mechanic as it uses the creatures "power" to work.
That alone makes it pretty blant, as all the vehicles with larger than crew 2 are almost unplayable simply because activating them is so terrible (obvisious bombs in mythic ignored).
Crew 1 is pretty much the real deal, and this makes the mechanic very flat , even more so that 0 power creatures cannot crew in any reasonable way, which further reduces its usefullness (not that 0 power creatures are "good" to begin with ... ).
----
Would they have used the mechanic as they made it (Tap X creatures to Crew X , no power required) , it would be WAY more reasonable and would work way better overall.
WotC simply failed the mechanic ...
----
Having "some" vehicles might be a thing, but in the end, the vehicles we have seen so far are quite the "machines" , some random boat or otherwise basic vehicle might not really reflect the power it would need to have ...

No, it's definitely not that. What would even be stopping him?
The crocodile giant/god is like an allusion to the egyptian god Sobek; who also has the head of a crocodile.
