Significantly higher could mean "significantly more expensive"....but not ridiculously expensive, as the poster said. "Ridiculously expensive" was Ugin's Fate Ugin.
Oh god, Ugin's Fate Ugin. Don't remind me.
The guy that I beat in the last round of the Prerelease got an Ugin in his Ugin's Fate consolation pack. So I guess he was the real winner.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
I think the difference between the Ugin's Fate Ugin and foil Kaya (hopefully foil Daretti?) is that alt art Kaya happens just as frequently as an normal foil planeswalker, where Ugin was in a very limited supply run. I mean maybe the alternate art increases demand based solely on desire to play with that art, but I don't think it'll be by much.
That being said, I'd be very interested to see this idea be taken further. Have the walker in normal card art be in his/her/its setting, and in the foil have the planeswalker using magic? Lets the foil treatment really show up instead of being kinda bland. I'm sure too many people would complain to some degree but I feel like that opens up a lot of art space, specifically if they have different artists do each.
Pretty simple: If players express the feeling this is GREAT, they'll do more. If not, we won't see it very often. This is a trial balloon--I'm honestly surprised they haven't already implemented this in every set.
I like it. It's a little "gimmicky", but a cool idea. I hope to see more like it.
I don't think it'll be *quite* like the Ugin's Fate thingy, because that alt-Ugin was only in a very limited product. Kaya is going to be in print as long as there's demand for CNS2. I imagine it might be a little more $$ than it would have been otherwise because it's a new thing (well, returning-after-a-very-long-time thing), but there should be more of these out there than the alt-Ugin.

I... wouldn't say this is a completely bad idea, because I always found the concept/gimmick quite cool at the Pokemon TCG, except for one thing - there isn't any regular-art foils in the set (like Pokemon would have). While I understand this does actually "lower its rarity" (because it technically is the "only common" version), it pretty much goes against the secret rare concept (basically a secret rare is a rarer-alternate-art--version of an existing foil card of the set) that I've come to recognize it as.
Considering people were upset over Taigam being missing during DTK (and they had Narset as a technical replacement), a completely missing foil card #75 of the set is so going to set people off for sure.
IMO it would have been more interesting on a rare foil. Mythic not so much.
There were six gimmick rare foils in Fate Reforged (in fact, wasn't this the last time there was a gimmick foil in regular boosters?). Crux of Fate and the Siege cycle all had the holographic Khans/Dragons watermark in the text box of its foils.
Currently has like... a 12x price multiplier on the non-foil. I fully expect this to drop by more than half as people realize that, while it's "neat", ALL of the foil Kaya's are like that. The normal one costs ~$10 and should drop as more product is opened. If the foil is more than $40-50 when all is said and done, I will be baffled.

People remember Dack Fayden and think "Oh, that's what a foil 'Walker from Conspiracy should cost."
It'll drop once they realize that she doesn't make the cut (heh heh heh) in Vintage.

Is this the beginning of alternate art foils trend. Imagine this on a standard playable Jace. It will be a disaster.
