Is the 1 less mana worth it if it goes away when someone punches you in the face? You can get it back by punching them in the face back, but you'd need to be able to punch their face when they punch yours for it to be worth it. How often can you punch your opponent's face?

In the deck in question, ideally you're going off with Early Harvest and/or Rude Awakening when you drop a mana doubler. It's designed to nova rather than to hang around with a doubler out. (The other doubler is Winter's Night.) Now, Zendikar Resurgent is typically better in that hanging-around scenario, but I still chose this new option. Regal Behemoth allows the possibility copying with Heat Shimmer and then again with Sundering Growth. And if I have Marath out, throwing some +1/+1 counters on 5/5 trampler might well allow me to get monarch back.
Odd to see that they are moving away from Beast to describe these creatures, perhaps we can expect Jurassic Plane in the not too distant future? Either way, great in limited, amazing in EDH so pretty happy all round.

You must be kidding. Especially in the last few sets, Origins and BFZ were really bad in art terms, we got SO MANY awful CGI stickfigure replaceable "arts". Altough I get this lizard might not be everyones art taste, but there were so damn many artworks worse than thise and rorix together.
Don't let me start about raymond swanland ...
You know, if you look real close at those "cgi" pictures you'll see they're actually digital paintings. Magic's artists must be that good, that their work can be mistaken for high-poly models captured in screenshots. And I can tell you from experience that digital paintings are a lot faster to put out than cgi; if those pictures are made with rigged poly models, textures, lighting, and particle effects, Wizards is hiring entire teams to work on a single card picture.
MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
The people who think the art looks weird are probably seeing the beast's headdress or whatever it is as its lower jaw which makes it look like it has a big dumb grin.

Yeah. People definitely don't have an eye for things at all. Just followed the blue on my first viewing.

That's doesn't fix its facial expression.
That's doesn't fix its posture.
That's doesn't fix its ornaments.
That's doesn't fix its generic garden--near-castle background.
That's doesn't fix the horrid choice of primary colors.
That's doesn't fix the wing-like extended fins on its back.
Art appreciation is personal, but this one is not great.
Maybe i used ugly wrong, its not ugly, its... unfitting i guess. Looks like some kind of reimagined dragon from a childbook, nothing wrong with that but i dont think looks good here. Example, this two arts are from Ciruelo
And again, i repeat, its NOT a lizard, its a dinosaur with lion head and strange fin ridge in its back, its a Beast, the creature of the mythic red card its a lizard. This creature its not interesting, the pose its not interesting and the background mmmm.
the card itself is good, possible cantrip (I guess one would play an I become monarch card each time you do not become the monarch). Personal Mana doubling is always appreciated. 5/5 for 6 is just under curve.
This might be the worst magic art since OG Rorix...
Why? Because it not like the thousand sameish CGI arts we already have but something fresh and different?
Lots of things can be "fresh and different". How about a squiggly line with polka dots. That would be unlike anything ever on a Magic card, but it would look terrible.
We've come a long way from the Drew Tucker "WTF is this" style art, but this is horrible art. The color palette, the cartoonist style, the sideways pose... all terrible.
