New Marchesa is awesome, I don't know what people are talking about. At least in Mardu she gives way for a new mardu control deck that is much stronger than what we have in Duel Commander (not talking about multiplayer).
The homunculus seems to be giving the middle finger. I'm almost 100% sure this wasn't the intention.
Sovereign's Realm is the absolute nuts.
Funny. A member of our playgroup is always salty when he loses and usually blames it on lands (aka "unnecessary additional level of randomness that Richard Garfield regrets the most and would not do it again if possible" (because he said so in 2001 on some V:TES event during interview). He even has a whole thread here on MTGS about that.
Now this conspiracy is basically one of the (stronger) variants he already devised

Total side note but I like how people are discussing running this over itself.
Well, it has to be said that Kolaghan is clearly better than Kolaghan. Considering what BR decks usually want and how stiff the competition in this guild is, there is no way that I would run Kolaghan over Kolaghan! Kolaghan might make it in as the sixth guild card or so. Kolaghan on the other hand ranks several places below that.
It was so funny to me when they described this as a downgrade to the original Zurgo during the Pax East panel. I was thinking if this is a downgrade, they should really "downgrade" all legendary creatures. Haha.
My deck designing is quite concise at this point:
1. Come up with deck idea
2. Realize this idea is somehow fundamentally similar to another deck I have or that is commonly played in my group
3. Decide I don't want to disassemble one of my existing decks
4. Give up and do nothing
I don't see the point of this new shroud mechanic. It's strictly worse than Hexproof. Threshold is pretty bad too, Delirium is a much better mechanic and probably easier to activate.
Otherwise this card is a pretty neat guy. Dodges removal and grows into a Primal Huntbeast. 3/5
Monarch is a sweet mechanic, does anyone know how the monarch token will be distributed ?
Can you explain monarch
Certain cards designate you as the monarch. Other cards can take that ability away, giving it to someone else. If you're the monarch, you get an emblem with "At the beginning of your end step, draw a card. Whenever a creature deals combat damage to you, its controller becomes the monarch". So, it's card advantage, but also makes you the target. There also appears to be cards that grant abilities when you're NOT the monarch.
Sovereign's Realm is not an art I'm a fan of. I mean, the art is amazing, but why is Marchesa looking at me like that? Please stop.....no.....stop it......okay it was me! I ate the last cookie! Are you happy now you crimson-eyed witch?!?
From what little we've seen so far, I'm surprisingly getting excited to draft.....green. Which is a big deal.....for me. Also lamenting the loss of the autobots.Dec from CON 1, but we might still see some fun bots in the set. Also really excited for new Selvala. I'm curious what mechanic she'll get, if she gets any of the new ones.

Someone play something that says "You become a monarch". That someone becomes a monarch. Someone else plays something that says "You become a monarch". That someone else becomes a monarch.
Then there are cards that care who is the monarch or who became a monarch recently. That is all.

Not a fan of the new marchesa. Just a beat stick... that makes more beatsticks. Plus monarch is not something I want to have my opponent's have at all. Maybe Nekusaur but that's one deck type.
I love goad however! Too bad the way it's worded... they can go ahead and hit your planeswalker in combat. Doh!

The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
Based on this thread, it seems that people are forgetting that being the Monarch nets you an additional card on each of your turns. And that you can also become the Monarch by dealing combat damage to the current Monarch. Marchesa is essentially a howling mine that also makes deathtouch tokens, on a hasty 3/3 deathtoucher for 4. She is awesome.

Incorrect. The article even specifies they must attack another player, not a planeswalker.

Not quite... Remember you get the card at your END STEP, not at the beginning of the turn. Though if you keep getting hit, you can get more assassin tokens and then hit someone to get the extra card.
I expected Marchesa to be changing out a color for White but I expected it to be Red not Blue.
Also Sovreigns Realm is the absolute definition of pack one pick one. Pull that and you can happilly go five color good stuff. Grab seven or eight basics for your sideboard and go ham.

Not many of the non-draft related cards stand out to me besides Capital Punishment. Still not a great card, but decent enough although in a game of 5 or more things get rather nutty.
Sovereign's Realm may not be as good as it first appears. You get insane mana consistency, but you are forced to play with nearly your entire draft pool. Plus, there is the real danger that your draft pool does not even have 40 cards (very possible if you draft too many conspiracies or cards that remove cards from the draft) and you can't even legally play Sovereign's Realm.

If you're playing Soverign's Realm, you're going to need some cards to exile in exchange for lands. So, in a way, the unplayable jank you're forced to play to get to 40 becomes your deck's basic lands.

Love the monty python reference, in addition we did not vote for Marchesa (or Brago for that matter).
Monarch seems to be the only thing you *don't* vote for on Fiora, ironically.
