I, for one, think Kaya looks fine. More than fine, in fact. She looks very cool. Very in-control. Very streetwise and practical.
Magic already has a whole lot of flashy and in-your-face characters. A lot of characters who are almost literally larger than life. Kaya's brand of subdued but intriguing roguishness is a breath of fresh air, honestly.
That and she's simply got style.

"Pop in, find a dragon, roast a dragon."

I didn't read her backstory, but I just want to say that visually, she's looks really badass. Very stylish, very tough looking. The eyes of a predator, and I very much like her jewelry. Very, very good design/art.
Could we try to avoid the SJW/Racism kind of discussions here please?

This is the first time I've seen someone argue that a female character is too bland-looking and have it lead to an unrelated discussion of how well the female form is covered/not covered up. It's just as funny as the explicit version of the same discussion.
Yeah, Kaya looks boring. I, like many others here, don't care but I enjoy her background and story. Honestly, the whole "gotta wear a hood or you're not an assassin" thing is overplayed. If I were an assassin walker, I'd rather look as plain as Kaya looks since it doesn't give you away in public and if things ever get really bad, you can just leave and never come back.
The timing of this character's introduction positively reeks of painful commercialism and corporate pandering.
Even if the Ghostbusters reboot didn't insult as many people as it did, it's pretty dang cynical marketing to introduce a character like this only now and expect it'll help the character's premiere.
It shouts a lack of confidence in the character to have enough appeal in itself.
Kaya's cool, I guess. Albeit pretty bland.
And that's not just a matter of her arguably plain looks, which have been noted do help the 'mingling assassin' deal. Or it would, if her defining description was assassinating people and not ghosts.
She's Kaya, Ghost Assassin. If assassinating people were a character's prime directive, then we'd much more easily welcome a bland appearance.
If it's utility for discreet meetings with people in shabby places, then why aren't the rest of the Planeswalker roster who do the same blanded down in looks? Give Dack Fayden a potato nose immediately. It's absurd that smarmy face hasn't eaten a few socks to the shnoz!
It's also highly unfortunate that her antagonist in the story is a successful white male dressed in republican red whose villainy involves mistreating a woman.
I wish she was introduced to us in Return to Ravnica block, in a feud with Vraska or Teysa. That would have actually been interesting.
Instead we got a useless Gideon in Gatecrash (The set featuring Orzhov), a set called Dragon's Maze with no dragons and a confusing resolution. And now this. What a horrible shame.

You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.
I honestly can't see why someone think she can be BR she has NO red trait in the story.
As many people argued:
she is a hitman: she accept a paid job to "assassinate" a ghost (and she is known for this) - B
she can directly interact with ghosts and "move" to the dead realm - both B and W (see Orzhov main theme and rulers)
she is very cautious in her actions and prepare accordingly not rushing in - W and U
she tries to understand the motives of the spirit before actually kill her to judge if her actions are just - W
she change her mind on the job due to having understood that the spirit has been wronged and want to right that - W
she keeps her first half of the payment for herself - B
it seems to me that considering the story we read and the fact that she was preparing for a long time for the difficult job Marchesa has assigned her (so she knows that Marchesa want her to kill Brago and she accepted) the only color that makes sense for her are BW, only her preparations and study of the surroinding can tend to U (but can be seen as W).
Gameplay-wise we know that 3c PW are used in rare cases (we only hae 3 so far) so I see unlikely an Esper stretch

The worst part of Ghostbusters is that it's a completely bland movie that wouldn't have caused so much drama if Paul Feig hadn't preemptively called everyone sexist racist *****lords for daring to say his movie was anything but precious and perfect even before anyone actually started making fun of the horrible trailer.
It does reek of insincereness: Here's a black woman, probably the most under-represented character in america. But we don't believe she can carry a story so dress her up like a girl you saw on the street so we can call out everyone who thinks she's underdesigned and bland a KKK member because she kinda looks like someone you'd see in the street who may or may not be opressed.
I was happy when I saw the mongolian man in magic was a nutjob who probably hoards dragon dildos because flaws and quirks are more relatable than bland inoffensiveness unless you're so superficial all you can see is her dark brown skin and unruly hair (which I'd argue is actual racism). Then again I don't play in the tumblr opression olympics.

Seconding this. We already have so many cartoonish characters that have, like, flames coming out of their eyes or are wrapped in a veil of mysterious flying magic mist or stuff like that. This feels like a more relatable character, and a push in a more mature direction, mature not in the sense of more gore or less clothes, but more grown up.

MTGSalvation; Where the whining is a time honored tradition, and enjoying the game is trolling.
Yeah, she does look really bland. If it weren't for the glowy blade-things on her arms, you probably couldn't tell she was a Planeswalker, a kind of magic user, or heck, even a fantasy character. I think it's her clothes. They just look too modern.
Guys, it shouldn't be noteworthy that she's black. And a black character in a story isn't "pandering to minorities" anymore than casting Arnold Schwarzenegger in an action film is pandering to Austrians.
Also, those of you asking for an accentuating feature to identify her, did you guys miss the Psylocke-arm? (But she could have also wore a ribbon in her hair, right?) I don't really get what the controversy is here.

I like my own ethnicity so much I have to make up ridiculous caricatures in my mind to kinda-sorta understand why people insist white is the "OP nerf now!" in this game of life.
You may want to direct that comment to the shriveled white executives who still can't understand why to this day black teens relate more to Peter Parker's ***** for life despite his great inner potential than they do to Miles Morales' innofensive, over-produced safety "character".
In my experience the only people who like being coddled and given specially tailored technicolor toys, because we apparently are too stupid to play with the white toys, aren't even minorities but hysteric rich white women who have unressolved feelings for their mexican pool boy or white men directly making money out of x/y movement's donations pool. But who cares about what the brown people have to say, tumblr and curriculum-padding college courses know what "minorities" need better than the people who happen to belong to those minorities!
