I'm not sure why how many players being around when it released matters, people are able to go back and look at things. That and they do care about enfranchised players.
Yes, people can go back and look at what was obviously a throwaway joke, and then continue to help build up massive expectations for what will inevitably be a disappointment after 10 years of hype and speculation on every single new set that comes out. Over a joke that was never intended to be realized.
To be fair, we did just get black bordered Big Furry Monsters...
Yeah, we did. They're not very good and clearly made primarily to stroke the egos of some people in R&D. Which is exactly what Contraptions are for at this point. They will exist to stroke Rosewater's ego and appease a vocal minority obsessed with a decade old joke.
But now that I think of it, I still have 2 Steamflogger Boss from back when I drafted Future Sight regularly. It'd be nice if they kept going up in value. Please, MTGS people, continue to hype up this nonexistent mechanic.

They were flavorful and work just fine. Honestly the only complaint I have is that we got less of them and more Eldrazi instead.

Y'know, if you keep complaining about how big that "vocal minority" is, maybe you should consider asking yourself if you're not the vocal minority against it.
Yeah sorry but MTGS is hardly representative of the gaming public at large. We're both in the minority, the vast majority of players know nothing about Steamflogger Boss or just don't care.

This isn't exactly a point in contraptions' favor. The Meld mechanic is stupid as all hell.
To you, I've seen it be a fairly well received mechanic, I personally liked it in small numbers (like it was made), the mechanic was done in a way that fit both the mechanics of the set and the creative, thus made sense to put it there, the same goes for contraptions, if and when it gets made, it will be because it makes sense in the set it's put in, that's all there is to it, the world doesn't end because it wasn't put in this particular set (or block).

Interesting. Everyone that I've talked to at my LGS hates the mechanic. It's extremely clunky to play with, and perhaps the worst aspect of it is that you cannot tell what the flipside does on half of the Meld cards.
Grandeur will be in the set with all of the lavish opulence that middle eastern palaces and merchant towns are known for.
Why do I think this?
Fuels delirium.
The problem with Grandeur as a named mechanic is that it isn't a limited-friendly strategy to encourage. You'll only have so many cards of the same name in your deck, and in a block without Madness you won't want to be discarding valuable creature cards most of the time. The flavor is also weird; why do you have to discard a card of the same name, specifically?

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.

It was designed specifically as something to do with extra copies of legendary creatures, so I would assume that the flavor would have something to do with the pride of a given legendary creature.

Which means it would only be for a few rares at most, and then we'd have Epic/Offering all over again.

1.) the flavor is evocative of rich princes and nobility as what kaladesh seems to be, a middle eastern/Persian/Indian type of affair. Seems to fit flavor at least in my opinion. But...
2.) limited friendly? Processors and Meld say hi.

There are many cases in the game where the flavor would fit but the gameplay does not. And as we all know, good gameplay trumps good flavor. Kaladesh's grandeur comes from its use of artifice to create a luxurious and possibly decadent lifestyle. Kaladesh's mechanics are going to focus a good deal on artifacts.
Processors can use any card your opponents own in exile, regardless of how they're exiled. That allows for some diverse deckbuilding strategies, though Ingest and exile removal will obviously be the most popular. Meld's presence is minimal, but its playstyle is still more fun than having to discard extra copies of a specific card, it has the novelty of creating bigger cards from two smaller cards, and the flavor is easy to grasp.
