We are inches away from mythics being strictly better rares.
This set is awful on every level. The flavor sucks, the rarity distribution sucks, and the cards aren't even slightly interesting.
The salt is real. The set is fine, its the Gatewatch storyline that's the problem. The horror theme of this set is pretty great, its just that its ACTUALLY horror rather than the homogenized horror of the first Innistrad block.
either push them all, or make them all "feel" mythic, with big splashy and weird effects.
Basically 8 or 80? Magic has many different types of players, making mythics pleasing just a single sub group is pretty bad. That is why we have pushed mythics that don't feel mythics like this one, and why we have something like the blue mythic enchantment.
As a company, wizards needs to please the most people as they can, and your suggestion is just a completely commercial failure. Making all mythics to follow a single standard will just make all the ones that aren't part of the target audience to be upset. (far more than the people complaing about this card for sure)
I just think that they should avoid making the pushed mythics as 2 drops, since this forces it to be run as 4 of.
I see it getting compared to tarmogoyf for obvious reasons, but saying it's worse is like being on a planeswalker thread and saying that card is worse than Jace the mind sculptor. It's silly really. Comparing him to sylvan advocate actually makes sense because they are directly comparable and are played side by side in the same standard. The real difference is this guy can conceivably be a 4/4 trample turn three because of his first ability making him situationally better than advocate, but worse the later the game goes. Either way, he deserves mythic status because I can already see him taking over games as early as turn 3-4.
Gotta love the trolls on this site. They see a card, and it's actually really good and they can't complain that it's over costed or underpowered, but god forbid they let a card pass by without complaining about something... so hey let's knock the Rarity!

But but but this is a mythic, it should be unconditionally better than tarmogoyf!
If there is any g/b deck, this card will be a major reason. I expect this to reach modern forJund. Maybe not permanently but they should at least try it out.
Right now, This could bring the crypto deck back. This guy tramples right over those tokens.
Also this is a fine card that will probably find a good home, but he's a rare.
Agreed. Unless it's a major story character, mythics should not cost 2. It just guarantees a sky high price point if it see even a little play anywhere because it's so low cost.
It's mythic because it's powerful.
Simple as that.
It's a supportive value engine that can also lay down the beats. Unlike other 'build around me' cards, this card is part of that building-around. You can throw him into many strategies and go wild.
For one thing, he immediately increases the playability of Liliana, the Last Hope in standard. Heck, this guy can trade with a Thought-Knot Seer.
The aggressive bent to the card is also significant. It's a sweet spot where like Dark Confidant he can lower the curve of a midrange deck, or add a means of value (his digging) to a more aggro deck.
And we all know how good incidental card value and digging is in aggro.
You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.

Yeah, what's with all the people who don't think this should be Mythic?
I'd jump for joy if WotC got rid of the entire Mythic rarity, but if any card qualifies, this one certainly does.
It's powerful and complex, with abilities up the whazoo. What's NOT mythic about it? Its CMC? Is there a rule saying cheap cards can't be mythic? I didn't think so.
Winmore card is winmore card.
This card is nowhere near Tarmogoyf powerlevel. Seriously, we've had Delirium for a while now, it's impossible to consistently get, making this a 2/2 with upside, only if your opponent has an empty board, aka win more card, aka crap.
It's completely possible to consistently get Deli, As I've said a million times with my Modern RUG Traverse deck. Shell is always 4 Mishra's Bauble, 4 Tarfire, 4 Gitaxian Probe, from there you can modify it. It's very easy to get a consistent T2-3 delirum. Now, with this being BG it's more difficult as you cannot play this AND Tarfire AND blue cantrips, but maybe something can be done

You can choose BUG and play Architects of Will instead of Tarfire (wich, IMO, is not a good card). Architects are even playable if you have a winning position to prevent your opponent from drawing an answer.
Trust me, Tarfire is one of the best cards in my deck. Keep in mind that I've been playing with my brew for 3 months now, I've done a lot of testing. It is good because of one simple reason, you can turn 1 fetch serum visions, t2 tarfire, kill confidant, get delirum and trav erse for a bomb. It's nuts.
Although I admit, Architects is a great find that I had not thought about. I don't think it will be better than Tarfire, mainly because it does "nothing"; pay 1 mana cycle, but doesn't answer goblin guides, eidolons, confis, hatebear, etc. But I'll test it. thanks.

A card like this will probably always be mythic, but disagree with you guys on why that is. They make it mythic because it is then worth $ and cards worth money help sell packs. Game play isn't even factored in when it comes to this card. But, if they didn't have a mythic or two worth $20+ while in standard then a set wouldn't be worth much as a whole because we also get flooded with $0.25 Rares and $0.50 mythics. Not much fun to spend $4 on a pack on sets like those.
I do agree with them doing this though. That's good business, make money and keep making cool cards like this. Thank you Wizards for printing it, no complaints from me

There are only two possiblities why a card is Mythic: 1.) It's worth something, because it's strong. 2.) Its effect is extremely powerful and/or Timmy. Note that both of these conditions can apply.
On topic: The card is completely trash. Lower your prices to 5$! It is unplayable! Selling me a placet for 20$ is a good deal for you! What should your friends think when they see you with this garbage in your binders. No one wants this card. I'm only trying to help you!
Love this guy for Sultai Delver. Afraid he will be expensive though. Considering how many times I've seen graveyards get exiled in answer to 'goyf, like him more than it just for his base p/t. The rest is just gravy. Now just need to figure out what to cut. So many cards in this set getting the juices flowing.
this card is going to be great, but please keep the hate coming so I can grab 4 at around ten bucks a pop (or lower hopefully) before release and they skyrocket when you realize how silly you naysayers are
This guy is obviously good, but I'm not sure how good. If delirium becomes a thing, this guy will most certainly help. However I feel that as a 2/2 he dies easily to dead weight and fiery impulse. As a 4/4 he eats it to grasp of darkness and languish. I also feel that he is a little outclassed by sylvan advocate, even after both of them get their buff.
This feels to me to be the card of the set with the most multi format applications. Im annoyed that its a mythic but it seems quite pushed and I think will be at least tried in Jund where delirium will be easy and the filter will be good for not getting Bob'd for 4.
Probably not a 4 of but I really cant see a reason to not try it.

Yeah, solid card and it isn't legendary. People seem to forget that this creature will be a 4/4 faster than Sylvan Advocate will be a 4/5.
