Yep, even with the required discard in its cost this card, Cryptolith Rite and intruder alarm makes it so that once you get a critical mass you can flood the board with 2/2s limited only by the cost of 1 life per zombie.
Just took a look at all the one-drop zombies ever printed. About half of them are not very good, and you would ONLY play them because they are zombies.
Cryptbreaker is actively good, so we might not even need another good one-drop zombie. If we get one, it will be a huge boon to the zombie tribe for years to come!
This set is dope. Powerful build-arounds are everywhere.
I am really stoked for this guy and how he'll re-wire the way zombie decks can be built going forward. This is a powerful tribal enabler, and they don't make many of those at 1 mana.
It seems powerful but slow. Also, why are we getting these activated abilities that require you to pay mana in addition to discarding a card for a 2/2 zombie token? The act of discarding a card should be payment enough for a generic token. I'm on the fence on this one until we get more zombies.

probably because a 0-mana 2/2 on turn 2 is patently ridiculous for Standard
I'm interested to see how well this will slot into modern dredge. It's a discard outlet (although mediocre) and when combined with bridge from below seems like It could really go off with the draws. Might be worth a including as a 2 of or so. Outside of combo enabling it seems underwhelming. The draw ability could prove useful, but three zombies is a lot.

As opposed to 3 one drops on turn 2 and then a counter for each one on turn three? Or company into two reflector mages? Maybe endless card advantage from green wolves and humans. Or, a card that exiles all creatures of the same name for 2 mana.
Okay, You're right, Bolas, the tokens do enter normal. But you're a chucking a card for a chump blocker. We haven't seen a single reason to play tokens in black yet. We don't have a Nissa, or a Lord. And with one more rare slot taken, it seems we won't get any relevant good stuff for the tribe. I'm not going to tap 3 blockers to draw 1 card. Activating that twice in the same turn would be fine, but you need 3 zombies, there aren't a lot of those in Black.
1 mana for 1/1 is normal. But it's gonna die. And then it's ability is useless. Relentless Dead won't save it, because your mana will be tied up so badly.
I really wanted Withered Wretch to be reprinted. Even at rare it would have done nicely to enable Processors for Eldrazi shenanigans. Void Attendant cries.

Wanted -Zombie Foils and older expensive Zombie stuff. High Priority- Beta Z Master/ Int. Collector's Edition.
With a name like "Cryptbreaker," I was expecting a big, burly Zombie with decent stats and some kind of strictly-upside ability. I'm pleasantly surprised by this design!
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.

Well, I suppose breaking the Crypt Door to break in/out of the Crypt or breaking the entire Crypt itself does entitle one to have the name, so it could have gone both ways, although I'm not surprised you thought it'll be the later since MTG does like to use literal meaning for words sometimes.
The card itself is fine. Not the fastest thing around (not that Zombies were quick in MTG most of the time anyway). It provides the control-tribal-support for Zombies. The problem is people are more used to quick-aggro support for tribal rather than slow-control support (and honestly seeing the speed of the current aggro-midrange that is humans in Standard now), I don't really blame them for seeing this card as way too slow to be viable. This card is still decent (still nowhere near Pack Rat in my opinion though, even with all the tribal synergies, becuase Pack Rat makes a copy of itself and that makes all the difference, honestly. But then again we all know how Pack Rat tilted RTR limited, so...)

Yeah, the first thing I thought of when I saw the name was Vaultbreaker. I figured it would be something like:
Cryptbreaker 3BB
Creature - Zombie
Whenever Cryptbreaker attacks, you may return target Zombie creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped.

Just because I saw someone forget, you can block with your zombies and then activate the second effect of this. Also the fact that it isn't affected by summoning sickness and can do it multiple times a turn I am seeing why most cards make tapped zombies and amalgam comes back tapped.
No creature type Spellshaper? Either, I like this card a lot though I have no idea if it will make an impact on Standard.
I was looking for that type too. But keep in mind that Spellshapers that make tokens have to name the creature after the spell. So it would have to say "... named Walking Corpse" to be a proper spellshaper.
At first, I thought it was an enchantment. Then I saw it's a creature. Then I saw it's a zombie itself. It just kept getting better and better. This looks like a pretty good card.

...this uncommon sucks.
wait, its a rare?
oh god. it sucks even more.
this kind of narrow design really doesn't belong at rare.

Every zombie has to enter tapped because they're slow. And they need their two buddies to bust a door down.

Selling some cards I don't want.
Generally less than tcg mid.
If I'm not mistaken, I'm seeing more and more Zombies in EDM coming to play normally... Perhaps it's due to the Lili effect.

Why not both? If you use the effect of CryptBreaker while empty handed, you draw two cards.
