this will likely see modern/legacy play against decks that heavily rely on abilities, and are not storm decks (it needs to be cheaper to counter storm decks). Nice Card though.
It may see play in modern but Voidslime cost 3cmc and it doesn't see much play.
It won't see legacy play. Mind break trap is generally better there because you can't afford to pay 4 mana for a spell that doesn't win the game (and even then mindsculpter has not been putting up the numbers). In modern however, it is an amazing SB option for jeskia and might even be main board able. It hoses quite a few strategies and is still quite useful in a number of situations for it's flexibility. 4 mana is quite a bit for a counter so decks may just not have the slots for it. Still depending on the meta I expect it to show up. If scapeshift and tron are rampant then it should be worth while. It doesn't seem great in standard at the moment but it could work? standard doesn't have as many abilities to counter so most of the time it's probably just a mindbreak trap.

I have troubling picturing how a four-mana counterspell could see play in Legacy. Maybe in Modern, but this ain't no Cryptic Command.
I have doubts that this would see eternal play, but it does say 'exile all spells' and not 'counter all spells.' This means it can actually counter uncounterable things: hardcast emrakul, thrun, abrupt decay, etc. Could be relevant

Modern: UWR Breach, UWB Esper control
Legacy: UW RiP/Helm, UR Sneak and Show
My Esper Draw-Go modern deck might like this. It's a Hail Mary sidebord plan against Tron's Emrakul and Amulet's hiveminded pacts, which plague my local meta quite a bit.
How is it even a question whether this card will be played in standard or not. The top tier decks are filled to the brim with planeswalkers, ETB triggers, ormendahl, cryptolith right's ability, CoCo; all things that get completely shut down for a turn by this card, giving you another turn to stop them. It basically reads 2UU: negate one full turn for GW tokens, the best deck in the format. This card would be borderline broken in standard if it cost less.

I don't think you understand how this card works, and the bar for 4 mana counterspells. (The reason I say this is because you think the card actually does anything against Cryptolith Rite....) An ability, in order to be countered, must be on the stack. Good, you spent 4 mana to counter 1 Gideon activation. A 4 mana stifle is....real real bad. The only way I see this being playable is if an Eldrazi deck with a ton of on-cast triggers becomes something like 35% of the meta...I doubt that happens.
Wait, just to get this clear, abilities here also refers to triggers?
Normally WotC uses the phrase activated abilities, so it is kinda confusing.
All abilities on the stack.
Indeed, this is no MBT. But it will see play nonetheless.
I doubt this sees any serious play. Blue is just bad in standard and I've yet to see much to change that in EMN. If you're not playing white after EMN then you're doing something wrong, and if you're going to pair a color with White it isn't going to be blue. It's unfortunate really...I wish there was a viable UR counter-burn/tempo deck because I love Fevered Visions, but WoTC has made UR atrociously bad right now.

Ah yes tx!
This definitely might see play then. Voidslime saw play, and this card is more powerfull in every regard.
The fact that it deals with cards like abrupt decay, works potentially like a mindbreak trap, and even exiles is a pretty big boon, for only the tradeoff of 1 mana and it being monocoloured.

Give credit, where credit is due. Give irony and sarcasm, when ignorance and stupidity is found. The whip is kept for special occasions
The Internet was a revelation to me, I never imagined there are so many idiots on this planet.
Arguably the best counterspell ever printed? Don't embarrass yourself. This is nothing in comparison to counterspell not to even mention force of will, mana drain, and mental misstep. Sure it's a neat card, but 4 mana limits it greatly. On the level of cryptic command but that card isn't legacy playable.
Countermagic that costs 4 mana isn't legacy playable. Trap doesn't count because it's rarely 4 mana.
I like the card design though and am glad this exists. Nice that it doesn't target so you can use it as a 4 mana stifle for all triggered/activated abilities.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
Keep in mind its very similar to time stop without being a time walk- you could already use time stop to erase a mess of valakut triggers and unresolved spells. So it sits between mindbreak trap and time stop in regards to finality
I would have this alongside Time Stop, since there will be a time where I want to stop a combat and/or downright surprise my opponent by ending his turn during his upkeep :3
Virtually unplayable. 4 mana counterspells are not used in competitive magic, aside from cryptic because the card is insane (and I also believe dismiss was played back in its time). I can rarely see a situation where it is worth even having this on the sideboard. About EDH: if you're playing competitive it is also completely useless. If you're playing for fun it is an interesting card, but that is about it. I don't see it being worth it to slot this in just to combat eldrazi (in EDH). If new Emrakul proves to be reaaally broken then this card can see play in standard. Honestly seeing this card like this just makes me wish they had pushed newrakul a little bit more, with the hexproof and full mindslaver.
seeing your point makes me wish that they pushed this card with 1 1UU casting cost.
No way in hell this would be 1UU, maybe UUU, but not the first. Able to counter all spells and abilities on the stack for 1UU would be insane, and maybe best counter spell ever printed.
Can counter ETB triger of Cavern of Souls (at least I think it can; any rules guru in the house?), but once it's in play, you can't do anything, since mana abilities, again, don't use the stack.
Cavern of Souls doesn't have an ETB trigger, if you mean by choosing a creature type, but you still can use this to "counter" any creature they play using it.

You didn't read the post properly, they weren't wrong. They said arguably the most powerful counter, and arguably it is. It's actual ability goes well beyond a mere counterspell and (many, most?) others in power. Most efficient counter, however, it is not. But if it was any cheaper, it would indeed be broken.
Voicing your opinion on a card is fine, but don't be toxic to someone doing the same. MTG already has enough negativity.
So cannot be countered which is already some of the most irrelevant text that can be written an a card as it is meaningless against everything but blue is now even more irrelevant. That's Awesome!

This is arguably the most powerful counterspell ever printed,
yet the flavor is of a much lesser spell (Essence Scatter or something like that).

I see no clarification of "activated" or "triggered".
Does it mean you can counter a un-morphing ability ?

Yes it can, but not because it Exiles, its because the wording does not feature the word 'Counter'.
