Let this great clan rest in peace (2001-2011)
Arlinn Kord teams up with the vampires dealing with the threats in the woods.
Thalia is also there with her order and they all seem to be able to use the power of the geists of slain cathar to help the gatewatch repel the eldrazi.
Sigarda and her horde of humans try to stop Brisela and her horde of eldrazi angels. Sigarda wins when Brisela tries to meld with her and she strikes from within.
Sorin (along with Olivia) and Nahiri have their fight in the Markov Mannor.
Nahiri tells him he has to sacrifice himself like she did on Zendikar. Sorin thinks that Innistrad is beyond salvation and that he is there to end her once and for all before leaving for good. Nahiri gets upset over his reaction and uses her full power to battle him, Sorin wins in the end.
However Olivia gets mad when she realises Sorin has no intention of trying to get rid of Emrakul and turns on him to make him go along with Nahiri's "die for Innistrad" plan.
When Sorin is about to kill Nahiri, Olivia decides to stop him so Nahiri can use her power again to send Emrakul elsewhere, but Sorin kills Olivia instead.
In the confusion Nahiri takes the chance and seals him into a stone prison saying that he has no other choice now but to stay and die with his plane.
Nahiri planeswalks away after she locks Sorin and before emrakul is trapped, with a creepy smile on her face. And there's some hints at her being mentally unstable, as she talks with herself asking where she'd like to go now...
So, basically it seems like Nahiri had a plan in place to deal with Emrakul, but that plan required forcing Sorin into a heroic sacrifice (which is likely how she herself views her 5000 years as warden of Zendikar).
Except Sorin said no.
Then Nahiri lost whatever tenuous grasp she had left on reality/justice/decency and went "Fine, if you won't save your plane, then die with it."
I think het motivation for joining is a bit wonky. Fridge logic says she lies about her true motivations though. At least, the last time she got bound to some oaths, with Griselbrand and co, it worked out so well...
I'm happy with getting a black oath though. Doesn't even matter that much if it'll be good, I have decks and they want it regardless.

I hate the magic story so much, I bet some random literature students could write a better one for a crate of beer.
The story does suck. But that's partially the nature of episodic story-telling. It's destined to become soap opera-esque, because the story can never end. It's the nature of the medium, not (wholly) the fault of the story-telling team.
I think that for people who actually love real fantasy novels, MTG storytelling is absolute trash.
Ugin won't like what happened to Nahiri and Sorin....
More so Nahiri than Sorin. Ugin's know the entire time that Sorin is a selfish jerk, so much that he directly states it to Jace on their meeting on Zendikar. Sorin was just a useful willing accomplice. Ugin would have shown up during any distress call had he not been locked in a coma. Ugin's going to have to grit his teeth and work with the Gatewatch, because they understand the new ways of the multiverse, cause he's to stuck in thinking that only he, Nahiri and Sorin could deal with the Eldrazi. And even if Sorin gets out, hes not going to work Nahiri ever again, even if Ugin tries to force it.

So now we need antigatewatch. Tezzereth, Garruk, Tibalt, Nahiri and Ob Nixilis. Save this s**t.
Yeah...
Ob would never work with Nahiri. She's the one who implanted a hedron in his head and depowered him on Zendikar. About all he'd be interested in when it comes to her is bathing in her blood.
This thread so far is basically just a Magic storyline bashfest.
I, personally, am happy with this outcome and wouldn't have it any other way. If there is ever a hook or a twist to be drawn, I'd pray it not be against the Eldrazi if we ever wish for them to go away.
Wait, last block Gideon said they were forming the Gatewatch to fight multiverse level threats like the Eldrazi,Nicol Bolas,Phyrexia and....the chain veil.
So now he just lets a chain veil user into the gatewatch like it's no big d?
The gatewatch was fun for BFZ block, but can we please leave them at home for Kaladesh now?
I actually just realized the hook-- The Chain Veil is an artifact (duh) and Kaladesh is an artifact world. Maybe they're going to Kaladesh BECAUSE the next thing on the agenda is dealing with the Chain Veil? I'd been wondering for a while what the plot thread they'd follow to go to Kaladesh, though I'd assumed the Chain Veil would be important in imprisoning Emrakul, it never occurred to me that that was why they might be headed to Kaladesh. Haven't seen any hints towards that connection yet, though... But it makes sense to me anyway.

They didn't care that he was the savior of Fort Keff, the great hunter of Ondu, the champion of Kabira. To them, he was just another piece of flesh, a thing with life to be drained away.
So now we need antigatewatch. Tezzereth, Garruk, Tibalt, Nahiri and Ob Nixilis. Save this s**t.
So Tezzeret is the brains, Garruk's the muscle, Ob Nixilis is the looks, Nahiri's the wild card and Tibalt is the comedy relief! And they'll get their own spinoff block where they're constantly getting foiled by Charles X-Ugin and whatever leftover walkers are sitting around at the Gatewatch Mansion! It'll be a super smash-hit!
Well this is disappointingly contrived. After having their plan disrupted and suddenly having to face two ancient gods... which they totally destroyed with a nonsense Saturday morning cartoon victory. They show up on Innistrad with basically no time to formulate a plan to defeat an eons old god-horror that is warping an entire plane to its image. The super-selfish evil character decides to join up, even though it makes no sense at all given the way her character has behaved thus far. And... they pull out another plot win without the need for careful planning, preparation or learning about their foe.
I will henceforth have trouble taking and stories seriously that attempt to show the Gatewatch characters in any danger. They can apparently just show up and off ancient gods.
So now we need antigatewatch. Tezzereth, Garruk, Tibalt, Nahiri and Ob Nixilis. Save this s**t.
Why would any of those hunks work with the hysteric genocide machine?
And don't fool yourself, if Elf Hitler got retconned into being a poor victim of circumstances all along in her release of the eldrazi, so will Nahiri. Named female characters can't be evil nowadays unless they unapologetically hold a possition of privilege, like Olivia.
A big problem with the story now is that the heroes never lose. The entire Dominaria storyline (from Alpha to Apocalypse and to a lesser extent Time Spiral) is full of death, losses and intrigue. Not only that but Urza only succeeded in offing Yawgmoth, not Phyrexia as a whole so it wasn't the same type of victory as "We nuked two titans with Channel + Fireball and everything is fine".

Wouldn'tn't you rather keep the WMD where you know where it is until you can neutralize it, than let it wander around the multiverse on its own?
Plus Jace is probably vouching for her at least a little.
Um, it has been post-Battle for Zendikar really. Didn't need some complicated equation for it...
