Jenrik was more relevant to the plot than Ludevic. Yet I am disappoint both of them didn't get a card. Especially since many of the same legends got second printings instead.
People are complaining that the Gatewatch arent dying? You serious? We have had a whopping 2 sets since they even formed, killing them off would be super dumb, they made this huge deal about the formation of the watch, just to kill them in the next block? The movie just started kids, calm down and let the story unfold.
Actually, "movie" may truly be the right word to focus on here. As far as I know, there's still an MtG movie being developed. I'll be very, very surprised if the Gatewatch aren't the main characters in that story. Which, to me, means they won't be killing off any Gatewatch members anytime soon, because if the movie is a success (big if there, I'm aware), it'd be awkward for newcomers to start playing on,y to find that their favorite character in the movie got killed off in terms of lore months ago.
What makes me sweep about all this, is that now Innistrad is the 'Eldrazi plane', so we are bound to see them the next time we return to it.
Actually, we'll end up pretty much where Lovecraft draws up his stories, except that the elder god hangs out on the moon instead of the sunken city. In the future, I'd love to see some strange traders show up in Nephalia that take the occasional traveller to the moon to sacrifice them to their god (cats from Saturn optional).
So, I'm absolutely satisfied with the result, but the way could have been more awesome.
I had not thought about it like this. Omg. You may have just made me love this story. If we get a card with flavor text along the lines of "In the silver moon, Emrakul lies sleeping", I'll be all in.
Because conservative bias is a far, far worse thing. Liberal bias doesn't, statistically speaking, make people stupid. Conservative bias (or at least Fox's version of it) does.
What makes me sweep about all this, is that now Innistrad is the 'Eldrazi plane', so we are bound to see them the next time we return to it.

Look at EMN. It don't looks much Lovecraft. In many ways the presence of the Outer Gods are more subtle, they have their own agenda that is not as simple as 'destroy/consume everything' as the Eldrazi. On Lovecraft we don't have this "Apocalipse NOW!!!" feel all the time as we have whenever Eldrazi are involved (wich includes what we are having on EMN).
SOI was good at delivering the horror and mystery feel from Lovecraft work, but EMN is becoming just a huge scale fight to prevent the destruction of a world.
And after this letdown that EMN is being story wise, I lost my trust that Wizards can actually deliver a good horror/mystery story as long there is a creature with the 'Eldrazi' type in the set.
Specially now that the Gatewatch is the main focus on the storyline and they were formed to fight against planar threats. So, the next time we pass through innistrad, it will be probably because Emrakul is going free and we will again have this 'Eldrazi Apocalipse' again.
I rather think that if we go back to Innistrad for a third time, the plot will center around the reemergence of the WB Angel. We've seen one of her Flight in SoI, after all.

It hasn't been confirmed that Flight Moonsilver is the Flight of the 4th sister really... for all we know, it's just an offshoot angel flight that reports directly to Avacyn (Moonsilver being her spear and all...).

Well... not really werewolves, since they all transform into another creature type now.
Nope, only some of the werewolves are eldrazified, the space for double faced cards in EMN was just almost completely used for eldrazi-transformation. So Ulrich is the only 'pure' Werewolf we get as a card for this set, but not nearly the only one left on Innistrad.
I can see this working out. If Eldrazi only spawn on Innistrad, Wizard's undying love of tenticles will lead us to Innistrad semifreaquently, which means more werewolves! I'm only joking a little here.

Ouch, if the salt in my wounds weren't bad enough, you just got me to make my own salt, reopen my wounds, and rub it in myself.
Better than AVR at least, where they printed zero real werewolves (silverfur only.) This time we got Ulrich at least, which contrary to popular belief, is better than nothing.
Does the art book make any mention of what happens with Hanweir? Is there any lore surrounding the fourth Angel sister at all? Does it state that Sigarda survived her attempted merger with Brisela, or did she die with the other two Powerpuffs?
Phew I thought Emrakul would die. I hope that in 5 years there's a re-return to Innistrad and the plane is overrun with eldrazi drones & horrors... I'm probably the only one who likes eldrazis

That is almost assuredly not happening. The Eldrazi are pretty strongly neutered while Emrakul is sealed, and I don't see them destroying Innistrad any more than they did with Eldritch Moon.
Well, for all the similarities EMN had with Kamigawa, it even ended like Kamigawa.
Sorin now suffers the same fate as Konda.
Emrakul sort of suffers the same fate as O-Kagachi (Not quite the same, but in fairness, Emrakul probably outpowers O-Kagachi/Ulamog/Kozilek and at least O-Kagachi had successors to replace it).
Liliana joining the Gatewatch makes her sort of like Toshiro, except with way less wit and charisma (Toshiro still preferable).
Tamiyo and Nissa finishing the job makes them the sisters of flesh and spirit.
That leaves the one pulling the strings, Nahiri, to be Mochi, although she escaped, unlike Mochi... simply because there was no Hidetsugu around.
Considering my favorite character from Kamigawa was Hidetsugu... we have an inferior Kamigawa right here.

Hah, you cannot be serious, comparing Tibalt to Hidetsugu. Tibalt is just a sad little sadist driven mainly by self-loathing about his own general incompetence, whereas Hidetsugu was one of the most fascinating characters in the modern Magic story era ever.

Some of the initial bits we got when the book was out early are wrong: Nahiri did not care about Sorin making some sacrifice, Olivia did not defend Nahiri from Sorin. They dueled at Markov Manor, her horrors routed the vampires, and she bested Sorin, pinned him down and encased him in stone. That's the end of their section for the Eldritch moon story. Then the gatewatch takes care of Emrakul. Unless I'm missing a section that has all those specific details we were told about initially.
K so, in chronological order of events for this set's story:
- Emrakul rises at the drownyard and feeds on the mana that Nahiri directed there. Conversely, Emrakul's influence is spread via the leylines throughout Innistrad.
- Jace returns to the drownyard with Tamiyo and Sorin. Jace's already weakened mind threatens to break fully and he's overwhelmed. Sorin is dumbstruck, and knowing that it took 3 pre-mending walkers to trap them the last time, doubts that Tamiyo and Jace can do anything about Emrakul so he focuses on Nahiri. Tamiyo calms them both, and Jace has a renewed sense of resolve. Sorin leaves to gather his army to face Nahiri.
- battle of Nahiri and her eldrazi horrors vs. Sorin and the vampires.
- Jace gathers the Gatewatch and they battle their way from the drownyard to Thraben, where the Innistradi are fighting the corrupted. Overwhelmed, all seemed lost....
- Liliana and an army of zombies poured into Thraben. She was using the Chain Veil, and the Gatewatch saw that it was taking a toll on her, she was bleeding from the etchings on her skin.
- Then the full moon shown from the parted clouds and Tamiyo entered the fray, with her knowledge that the helvault was a sliver of the moon, and a sliver of the moon's power, the combined efforts of Jace Nissa and Tamiyo unleashed a spell that draw Emrakul into the moon.
- The gatewatch asked Tamiyo and Liliana to join, Tamiyo declined as her focus is on exploration and not on violence. With urging from Jace, Liliana joined, hoping to get help with the veil and her remaining two demons.
It looks like the forced to watch innistrad get destoryed thing happened before sorin even killed Olivia.
As a matter of fact Olivia was talking to sorin trapped
The original supposed Art Book synopsis was wildly inaccurate/outright made up/heavily embellished, and much of the information from it needs to be discarded.
Olivia wasn't killed because she never turned on Sorin because Nahiri was written as mustache-twirlingly evil and had absolutely no plan or intentions aside from luring Emrakul to Innistrad and laughing maniacly while she forced Sorin to watch his world be destroyed.
