Wizards colorshifted Fork as Twincast like ten years ago and nobody blinked an eye, now they colorshift Donate and everybody loses their head? Colorshifted reprints never violated the reserved list, this is nothing new.
WOTC is very ambgious on their stance regardling the RL. On one hand they "say" they will never abolish it or even do anything not in the spirit of it. On the other hand, they print reverbrate and this. I wish they take a stance and just stick with it. I don't much of a stake in RL cards but I think alot of people will get ****ed in the future one way or the other by WOTC.

I think wizards see the reserve list as a soft ban. Hard to get/buy cards push players into buying alternatives. I also believe the reason why wizards is slow on reprinting cards like Force of Will (or even printing the card as an uncommon) is based fear that the format would be flooded with those cards.

I don't get why going against the "spirit" of the Reserved List is bad. If it is not in direct violation of the Reserved List then I say anything is fair game. Harmless Offering comes close to it, but close is still outside of it. I mean we're all okay when dual lands that have basic land types are printed and don't complain how they might be breaking the spirit of the Alpha duals.

Ok, the cat is cute. But I do not see any card in sealed that will play with that. I have 3 mana and play what?...
The set hasn't been fully spoiled yet. There are still lots of things that can be previewed that would go with this. Even if nothing does, there are things in standard and other formats it does go with. I don't think everything in a set needs to match with other cards in the same set. This is one of those cards that does require a specific situation to be good. But those types of cards are often extremely powerful in decks built to abuse them. So even if this finds nothing in this set, it is a very good thing that it is becoming a real card.

RIP Batman guy. I hope somebody picks up the slack now that you are gone. Sick children need their Batman.
notreallygoodatcommingupwithname asked: Any comment on Harmless Offering, aka redshifted Donate? Last I checked Donate was on the reserved list and you yourself said that functional reprints aren't allowed.

I Think that Illusions of grandeurstyle cards -ETB anything and ExTB reverse anything- become in Kaladesh like Genie Whishes.
But remember only can make 3
Were there genies in India? I don't think so. So an India-themed plane probably won't either.
For an X draw spell, not being allowed to target your opponents is a fairly big functional change as you can no longer use it to deck them by pumping a ton of mana into X.
excited to try and make standard trix happen. People will probably be expecting it, but oh well!

The true mind can weather all the lies and illusions without being lost. The true heart can tough the poison of hatred without being harmed. Since beginning-less time, darkness thrives in the void but always yields to purifying light.
I invision a future where one is not mighty when he can silence a crowd with brutality,
but when he leaves them speechless with wisdom.

The card doesn't violate the Reserved List at all, really.
1) It's a different color
2) It can't be used to permanently steal creatures like Donate can
It just looks superficially similar, much like Twincast.

These days, some wizards are finding they have a little too much deck left at the end of their $$$.

2: The "spirit of the Reserve list" is an unofficial policy that they won't even define, chosing instead to ignore the Official Policy in favor of "we'll know it when we see it." It's the exact opposite of an official policy, and as seen here, actually undermines the Official Policy. Reverberate can be seen as a violation because, it actually does fulfill the conditions of "functionally identical" except for "abilities," where it adds a color-change to the copied spell. So it has the abilities of Fork, plus one, and meets all the other criteria.
3: If they won't simply dismantle the RL (my preferred outcome,) then printing colorshifted versions and minor, mostly cosmetic alternatives is the next best thing.

Cards are game pieces, and should be treated as such, easily replaceable.
Cards are not money, investments, or a retirement fund, and should never have been treated as such.
Wizards made a mistake caving to speculators once, and we still pay for that mistake 2 decades later.
"Entitled:" the entire ad hominem fallacy condensed into a single word. It doesn't strengthen your argument to attack motivations, it just makes you look like you don't understand the argument.
Alright guys, I got it! Play Stitcher's Graft, then play Goldnight Castigator, equip graft, and swing. Then Harmless Offering the Castigator. You get a whole turn to capitalize on the double damage, and when you're done, just equip the graft to something else. Can do the same with Avaricious Dragon too after it forces your opponent to discard their hand.
You can soul separator a goldnight castigator then donate the 1/1 with the crap skill and keep the 4/9 body (not a great play, too many hoops, but this is a brainstorm of this spell potential. Pretty sure someone will come up with a better plan) This card, plus the general feeling of this and late collections are the same: not obvious raw power, but combo possibilities one must solve. I still miss some obvious powered cards this collection is clearly not delivering, though.
MaRo said some months ago that Donate effects are not something they are willing to do anymore (such as Bribery effects and cheap Land destruction)... and now this comes? Oh. My. Goodness!!! Let's start with combo standard for a Grixis Pact deck!
Exactly what I said last page.

"The essence of every world, every spell and every thought is power. Nothing else matters, because nothing else exists."
Well the thing is with Donate is if you steal something you can donate it to yourself. With this red card you can't. Yeah that may be an odd case but you have that option. This red card just gives crap away.
I'm curious though if there will be some sort of card in this set that will be worth giving away. Cuz it will be pretty crappy pulling this in limited and you gotta depending on that mythic Red angel to make it work.
Donating stolen cards to yourself is one of the best ways to play a card like that. Hell, I built a bazaar trader deck that only consisted of card stealing cards and the occasional card that damages you, like a priest of the blood rite for example. As to your second thought, I pulled Hedron alignment as a promo and call the gatewatch as a promo and no walkers at those prereleases. Wizards doesn't care about wasting a rare slot that is totally useless in limited once in a while. So they may put out a donatable card, but the only 3 legit targets I've heard are pact, castigator, and mindwrack...all mythics.

1: The card does not in any way violate the Official Reprint Policy http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/official-reprint-policy-2010-03-10 because the official policy defines "functionally identical" as including the mana cost. Not the CMC, the actual mana cost printed on the card.
