Its a card disadvantage madness enabler, its just decent, not that fantastic. Madness is good when its a free card, not when its just an alternate casting cost. A baby jace is a fantastic madness enabler, this guys more into a poor putrid imp impression- not the type of engine madness needs. But he stands at least reasonably competent as an aggro component. Its no wild mongrel. If you can't reach that critical 4 power with a double discard, its going to fail to trade with a lot of threats (although 3 is shaping up to be the magic number this season, so maybe theres hope). It has to lord up the tribal to get real value.
He's a good card, but we haven't seen many cards that reward justify throwing away your hand yet.
Asylum Visitor - Not bad, but dies to removal and needs you to have no hand. Bloodhall Priest - 2 damage isn't gonna save you when they kill your very last threat, it's also not gonna kill reflector mage or Sylvan advocate
Need Phyrexian Arena or something in standard. Sire of Insanity? But that's not an aggro card...

What creature doesn't die to removal? Oh wait, they all do.
I thought the Internet killed that comment like 3 years ago.
For a moment I thought, I don't have to splash green in my zombie deck but no.once a turn hurts. There's enough graveyard shenanigans in standard for use but eh.
The once a turn thing does kinda suck. But you can do it on the opponents turn also. And if you have two out you can do it twice, which is kind of irrelevant, but isn't unthinkable. Definitely better in multiples. Not a bad card but a decent one
Perhaps they don't want it to become Wild Mongrel powerful, but to make it good enough as a madness enabler.
Edit: It pumps all vampires (a fact I missed before), so the once a turn is warranted. Perhaps wild Mongrel is a bad comparison.
What's with all the complaints about the "once per turn" clause? This thing would be able to push through tons of damage if you could activate it over and over.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
Meh, I'm already way too tired of Rise of the Eldrazistrad and it's need for tentacles, deformities, random rocky crap, bug stuff and suspicious bulges showing up in vampire card art.
Madness is obviously a Mono-Black thing, Axe and Impulse don't make the splash worth it, Olivia and Tiago cosplaying as a mythic travestite vampire don't help much either. We need 1-drops other than Duress.

Discard a card: Vampires you control get +1/+1 until end of turn. Activate this ability only once each turn.

Edit: Saw once per turn. It's okayish.
An enigma as vexing as life itself.
Edit: just saw once each turn. Not even close to comparable to mongrel.

Only pumps vampires.
Not pump the advocate, push damage through a advocate blocker. An opponent playing a turn 2 Sylvan Advocate just hoses aggro decks.

I noticed that, I just mean mechanically what are horrors doing this set. Seems purely aesthetic so far.

her work is getting easier and easier to recognize right off the bat.

Don't get me wrong, Call the Bloodline is a great card, but it just isn't as fast as the vampire aggro decks need it to be.
Vampires need their own Dwynen's Elite. Or Lys Alana Huntmaster
card is kinda meh.
I remember the good old times when 2 drop rare discard outlets were Lotleth Trolls
