Flavorwise, Did we have an octopus in original Innistrad that became this creature?
no, as far as I know, but lore says that the moon-lake near Tharben(?need confirmation on that) is said to be very deep and home to gigantic acquatic creatures, so... Why not the seas? We already have big things coming out of icebergs
It was called the Lake of Herons.
Quote from Innistrad Planeswalker"s Guide »
This wide, fast-flowing river originates in the mountains of Stensia. It empties into the Lake of Herons, with murky water, high ridges bordering the bank, and depths of hundreds of feet. Great sea serpents and other creatures are said to hide in the depths of the Lake of Herons, which stretches almost 20 miles before flowing over the 2,000-foot waterfall known as Kirch Falls.

Reality Smasher is perfect with this. They go to destroy the Reality Smasher, wait for them to discard a card in order to target it, then go "okay, I pay UU, sac the Reality Smasher, this guy comes in.
Would've liked to seen it have a higher Emerge cost and had it been an 8/8 just for octopus flavor. It's a good card though. I could see this being used in... Well quite a few decks.
Your T 1: Yavimaya Coast into Noble Hierarch
Your T 2: Eldrazi Temple into Sky Spawner/Matter Reshaper
Your T 3: Pass
Opp T 3/4 Upkeep(or in response to removal): Sac Skyspanwer/Reshaper tap E. Temple, Y. Coast, N. Hierarch and play this thing targeting their creatures/lands
Your T 4: Play Reality Smasher and swing for 10
if that "tap 4 things" was a ETB instead of a "when you cast" this would be crazy bananas with Eldrazi Displacer
I'm sad.
lol
I'd argue that it's way better than ETB, though, because against a control deck it effectively guarantees you a turn with 0 permission spells being used by the opponent even if they counter this. It'll let you slip other stuff under that would have otherwise been countered, and can probably often save your creatures for long enough that you can alpha the enemy team and get a win. Same thing can be true if you use it during the upkeep phase if you suspect that the opponent has a nasty card that you need to stop that's not instant speed (like a wrath, for example). The amount of lockdown that this thing provides is utterly INSANE.

as an ETB with blink effects though, you just almost win on the spot no matter the board position.
with Eldrazi Displacer at a time you'd play this guy it's likely you'd be able to activate displacer's ability twice in a turn and tap 8 things... every single turn.
as a 1shot ability then, yes, sure it's a lot better than the ETB.... but only against permission decks or super corner cases such as Torpor Orb or something.
The tap triggers ar on cast so this cards seems plenty powerful. I will be interested to see if it fins it's way into some tron decks. A 5/6 timewalk for 8 seems good, and remanding it does next to nothing. emerging wurmcoil in response to path doesn't seem bad either.

Evoke mechanic is a pretty spicy combo for emerge creatures that have flash. Evoking an Ingot Chewer and then flashing this in saves you most of the cost and gets you a ton of value.
I misread it as Elder Deep Friend. Considering it can hug 4 creatures at once, not too far off ...

The suspended one on the left looks *very* strange!
He's a little too limp to be alive,
but a little too stiff to be (freshly) dead.

And I'm loving the art!
Tap four permanents.
Curves neatly and pairs well with Drowner of Hope. It's a pretty big effect even if you're casting for 8, but for UU is exciting.

I also read this title as "Elder Deep-Fried Sam" and I was like "what the hell am I looking at?"
Neat card for flash deck, though.

Same.
Good point on the evoke into emerge combo (with flash). Should check that out.
