All of these transform cards and not a werewolf in sight. And if I do get one it's probably going to be a stupid Eldrazi Werewolf.
Wish the Alphas card was more interesting or actually did something for wolf/werewolf tribal.
My fears as well. Especially after Episode 2 on the mother ship specifically talks about Hermit of the Natterknolls becoming an Eldrazi Werewolf. Who in the world wants that? lol
i want that. i really love what is happening currently :). And if something else than emdrakul would be the source of this, most people would like it. you are just all like: "ew, there is eldrazi written on the card. its 100% the same thing as in bfz block!!1111"
I hope take inventory can make it in modern. Feels like being a sorcery will stop that. Choosing between this and holding counter magic up it unfortunate. Obviously if you're casting it with 2 copies in the yard already then following it up with a snapcaster it's draw 6 for 6 mana which is as broken as you'll find. Suspect that's too likely magical christmas land.

If this was Phyrexia or some new fourth villain I would probably have the same reaction. If it was internal to Innistrad I wouldn't like it anymore than this, but it would presumably be slightly more fitting at least. Alien horrors should feel more alien than natural ones, so I can't imagine it would be a literal one for one translation of the concept.
Dunno but I always think about "trade 2CMC spell to opponent's 10CMC creature" as something unfair. That's why I will never understand blue players.
Do you want to play a game where there are no opportunity risks or "checks and balances" to just throwing big fatties on the table or casting big game winning spells? Like said before, we're heading to all threats, and no answers. Also, like combo? Too bad. Without permission/control to keep it in check, they can't print much of that, either. Or, you get ham-handed, archetype killing hosers instead of balance.
Yeah... but WotC are catering to the Timmy's if the world because beating counter decks is too hard for the Casual.

Loving this set so far. These cards look like they're gonna be fun to play with. Intro pack rares are intro pack rares of course, but they look awesome for limited, especially the Niblis. Glad we got a solid cheap red burn spell too.
I keep comparing Grizzled Angler and Lone Rider and it is just ridiculous how hard Lone Rider is pushed compared to the Fish. I really hate how awesome/goofy flavor cards are almost ALWAYS made unplayable for constructed as it is, but the fish is bad even in limited(unless we get like 25 more eldrazi in the set to help it flip).

Lone rider is the best card spoiled so far. First strike life link....

I like Noosegraf Mob for my zombie tribal commander deck. A fun way to generate zombies on my opponent's turns, and I can always bring it back with Mikaeus, the Unhallowed or Havengul Lich.
On topic: I got pretty excited seeing Take Inventory although I would have preferred an Accumulated Knowledge reprint but I guess at instant speed it's just way too good nowadays. Just like that Galvanic Bombardment not hitting players.
Ah, the Bolt actually does go to the graveyard when it finishes resolving. It's just that state-based effects are checked after Bolt is in the graveyard.

In all seriousness, I think we'll get back there one day. The game moves through ebbs and flows. What used to be strong is not guaranteed to be strong, and what used to be weak will not always be weak. Tropes and assumptions will be violated, then they will happen again. I used to hate this. I wanted equity in the game across all levels, all the time. But I came to realize that this ebb and flow is all for the best. It keeps the game from stagnating.
I think most people ignore the fact that we have a card that on the face of it is often times better than Doom Blade ( Ultimate Price ) but has been put in an environment where it misses a decent chunk of the big threats.
It's not that we need "more powerful" cards. We just might need cards that line up better.
I think its mainly about Maro wanting to make a pun on "lure".
Probably that as well, heh. After carefully reading there is also the word play of 'grizzled angler' becoming a 'grisly anglerfish' and the flavortext of lure, etc.
The only thing that bothers me in this card is to know if I should get a foil copy for my sea monsters collection. The criteria is being a monster from the sea and being big. It is not easy to tell if the anglerfish is big or not. Ancient Carp made the cut, but the anglerfish kinda looks the size of Slipstream Eel, which doesn't make the cut.

Take Inventory is pretty good imo, even at sorcery speed. I feel like my Modern Grixis would love this card since it already uses Thought Scour to mill myself, and having even just one in my grave makes this a strictly better Divination.
It's also definitely standard playable. We don't have anything like Jace's Ingenuity, for an end of turn card draw, closest being Dragonlord's Prerogative, and the closest thing to this is Anticipate, which lets you dig 3 deep, but also only nets you one card. When the second one is cast, it'd be one of the better blue draw spells we've had in a while in standard(ignoring Dig Through Time and Treasure Cruise, of course).
What makes me upset, if anything, is the reveal of Galvanic Bombardment. This screams to me that were not getting bolt, nay, strike, NAY, not even a shock in standard! C'mon wizards, you've literally killed the RDW archetype and white has better removal than black and red at this point, hell even creatures to an extent, which is basically why almost every deck is W/x, blue is only really viable to those running Reflector Mage(<which is also white) and/or Jace, Vryn's Prodigy, black loses out to white in removal since all of it is either conditional removal or makes you 2-4-1 yourself, and red has practically no reach for decks that don't want to abuse Pyromancer's goggles, which even then isn't exactly an oppressive deck. The least they could have done is let the bombardment hit planeswalkers, since there are just so many running about right now. I'm just really hoping we get something like Doom Blade or Dreadbore, or something. Throw us a bone wizards, :/
Ugin is going to get really bad once all the fatties are colourless. I sold all mine. Sell sell sell!
He's going to be absolutely rotten. Hangarback walker has already nerfed him quite significantly. I reckon he'll be $3 junk within 2 months of rotation

Do you really think its going to be easier to flip Lone Rider than Grizzled Angler in limited? A 2/3 for 3 is at least playable in limited when you're out of better pickups, a 1/1 for 2 isn't, first strike / lifelink won't change it losing combat with 90%+ of creatures. Its a worse pickup than a grizzly bears most of the time. Meanwhile this set is going to have colorless emerge eldrazi at common, and from what we've seen, playable ones without implicit card disadvantage. And cards that get enabled after the fact are more reliable in limited than cards that need to be laid simultaneously. A card that NEEDS to combo to matter on the board relies upon its enablers a lot, and then its payoff is just good, not autowin.
Now that might be a different story if theres a lone missionary reprint out of left field, but so far the only card that can even activate it at all is just blessed alliance, and you'd *really* not want to waste your excellent removal pickup just for +4 life, so it would need to be escalated and wait until they swing into you to get value. Or maybe if theres a good equipment to throw on the little guy so he's got 3 power and survives swinging into their face whether they block or not or he blocks

I was comparing Lone Rider more for constructed, but the Fish I thought was meh even in limited; because we are only getting 12 colorless Eldrazi(the flip Eldrazi look to all start as colored creatures, so they won't be colorless in the yard) and maybe 1 or 2 artifact creatures just make its ability to flip very unlikely. Therefore it will most of the time be a vanilla 2/3 for 3 and I would much rather take the chance with a 1/1 First Strike, Lifelink and some combat tricks, over a vanilla 2/3 for 3.
