Well Portuguese is related to Spanish, however you are trying to compare the wrong word. "Esperanza" is the Spanish word for hope, and Esperan"Ç"a is exactly the same since the Ç is pronounced as a Z.
I believe you're thinking of the verb "esperar" which is to wait in Spanish and is also the same word in Portuguese. Cheers
I see Sorin more as the black planeswalker in the Gatewatch...if Nahiri doesn't/hasn't kill him.
No way. Liliana is cold, selfish, morbid and a bit cruel but she cares (in general, and mostly about things and people that benefit her, but still.) Sorin just doesn't give a damn at all. Killing Avacyn very likely snuffed whatever little bit of caring he had left in him.
Yeah, Sorin kind of thinks of himself being too cool to join something like the Gatewatch. Call it whatever you want: immortal detachment, self-aggrandizement, or just plain ol' douchebaggery; he's just not a team player.
I could see both Tamiyo and Liliana joining the Gatchwatch, though. Tamiyo because she wants to keep those damned kids out of trouble, and Liliana because she could probably use them to help solve her own problems (*cough* Chain Veil *cough*).
I really want a zombie themed Liliana. I think this will be my favorite set yet.
Maybe indestructible zombies are the answer to matching the flavors of the story. Perhaps something like this...
Liliana, the Last Hope 1BB
+2 put a 2/2 zombie on the battlefield.
-4 until the end of your next turn, zombies you control gain indestructible.
-9 put all creatures from all graveyards onto the battlefield under your control.
4 starting loyalty

that +2 is bonkers.
Personally im hoping for four drop liliana, and for it to be really strong power level wise, but i doubt it will happen because we have so many 4 costers in standard atm.
WotC creative continues it's trend of displaying all the subtlety of a monster truck on fire.
Anyway, the best thing that could happen is she costs 3-4 and puts 2/2 zombie tokens for +1 loyalty and Bridge from Below emblems for -1 loyalty. That'd represent the "the more people die, the more zombies come to the fight" without making her into a one walker army because her own tokens don't trigger her own emblems.
My guess is that Wizards would repurpose transform as going mad, and zombies would just transform into themselves to show they are immune to the insanity. I think it would make a nice wink. That's the only way I can explain the do-nothing tranforming token.
(With obvious cards that care about other card transforming as a trigger?)
Tokens cannot transform unless they change this rule
711.1. A double-faced card has a Magic card face on each side rather than a Magic card face on one side and a Magic card back on the other. Each face may have abilities that allow the card to “transform,” or turn over to its other face. Tokens and cards with a Magic card back can’t transform. (See rule 701.25, “Transform.”)
Whelp, looks like LotV is about to hit a stupidly high price that it really doesn't warrant.
Absolutely no one should be surprised that Liliana of the Veil isn't being reprinted. If the price spikes because of this it will really show how fragile and stupid the Magic community is.
Some of us were hoping against hope after they botched reprinted her in EMA, after all, it's a card worth almost as much as x3 the price of a Mindsculptor while only seeing around 11% play in legacy and Modern top 8 decks.
Well, it shouldn't be surprising that she wasn't in Eternal Masters either. There weren't going to be any chase Modern playable cards in EMA. I'd be shocked if she wasn't in Modern Masters 2017, however.
LotV is not something that will be reprinted in Standard under the current climate. Plus, it doesn't fit the storyline.
LotV is actually played just as much in top 8 decks in legacy as she is in modern, there really was no excuse not to reprint her in EMA.
They never "reprint" a planeswalker in a regular expansion.
They better not do so in the future aswell, as "new" planeswalkers are allways better than reprints (as you want some form of progression in their story, reprints would be completly failure).
In any other set, like Commander / XY Masters / whatever Promo special , reprints are totally fine and thats where they do it allready.

That... is a really cool idea. Maybe the ultimate could be a cheap, easy to attain one like Garruk Wildspeaker, but still powerful– a 2/2 Zombie for each card type in your graveyard? In your opponent's graveyard? Or maybe milling someone for each Zombie you control, or draining life for each Zombie.
There was no way they would reprint Liliana of the Veil when they've adopted such a story-centric approach to their set designs now. They want their characters to grow and develop, and they want to showcase said development in card form as well.
From a logical standpoint, Wizards would have no logically sound reason to reprint Liliana of the Veil.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.

Currently:
1. She's Liliana
2. She has the Veil
From here she can either use the Veil or not to oppose Emrakul, something we'll learn from the story told. At this point LotV makes perfectly sense in Eldritch Moon exactly as it made sense in M15 (when they had to ditch it in development because it was too strong).
What are the chances we see oath of lilly and maybe oath or tamiyo?
Because Jace is there... and if this name stands true we could get our black oath at least.

Liliana's current role in the storyline isn't defined as her being in possession of the Chain Veil. Right now, her most important attribute is being the Gatewatch's only hope of preventing Emrakul's destruction of Innistrad. Therefore, it makes more sense for her card to reflect the latter rather than the former.
The "LotV reprint" argument might have had a leg to stand on before Monday (when we knew next to nothing about the set), but the nature of the Eldritch Moon trailer now strongly suggests otherwise.

Her current role is:
1. Being like herself as always
2. Having a veil
3. Rising hundreds to fight Emrakul
Is she using the Veil to enhance herself in this quest? We don't know, not from that trailer.
What we know is they won't reprint LotV: too strong for standard.
I wonder why she's "the Last Hope" - doesn't that mean all the other planeswalkers are unable to fight? Affected by the madness, maybe?
As for her joining the Oath - it doesn't fit Liliana. However, the team needs their Black Ranger - so if not Liliana then who?
she wouldnt have got a flip walker if they didnt mean for her to get oath and be black ranger
I'd think less power rangers, more Avengers or X-Men. She's basically Wolverine, she cares about people in her own unique and special way but also prone to killing people. She also steps a few more steps in that she recycles people, though.

I feel like Wizards are aiming for the oath to be at the very least their 5 main walkers.
Which are the 4 in the oath and lilly.
Magic duals: origins was made to give us more info and background story on these 5 walkers.
I could see more joining in the long run, but I feel lilly will be joining the oath this set.(Because I highly doubt she could just solo that spicy meatball)

She's kind of afraid to use the veil right now though and has been trying to get rid of it. It's likely that if the veil does come into play it will be using her this time not her using it

I was thinking more Emma Frost. Selfish, antagonizing, and more than a few of her own teammates don't like her, but she'll do the right thing in the end to further her own goals.
Then you can even have the fun Gary Stu comparisons between Jace and Cyclops.

You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.

Emma's "assets" required a little surgical help. One of the few heroines in either Marvel or DC to explicitly have plastic surgery done for their breasts.
Even on her worst wardrobe day, Liliana's attire is nowhere near Emma's. Which is intentional on her part (if you get distracted looking at her "assets", she can more easily attack your mind).
But the two are extremely similar. Both with tragedies in their life they would rather forget. Both with complicated relationships with Gary Stu characters. Both with more than a few temptations to use their powers to cause pain and havoc.

+1 each player discards a card. If you discard a swamp you get a 2/2 zombie
-3 target creatures control sacrifices it

Nvm this is old news.
There was a forum post for the card but it was deemed fake (wording on abilities, artwork/text box inconsistencies) so it was locked
This is true, but it would also make no sense from a story perspective, which is what I've been saying.
