She's not expensive at all and upshifting her rarity makes perfect sense in a limited environment. Even the original Urza's Legacy printing is around $3.
Now this too? They could have kept it at uncommon no problem. This in the rare spot takes up the spot for an actual white rare that could have been in here.

It's ok to design this set for draft. For business reasons, we already know that Wizards isn't to reprint strictly the highest-value cards, so if they have sub-optimal includes, including rarity shifts, at least the set will play well. I preordered a box, thought I was going to use it to draft, but now I don't know....
They can't keep getting away with it. They've basically bumped the chase commons to uncommon and the chase uncommons to rare. With Eternal format staples being such diverse in rarity they had the opportunity to crash the price of some commons and uncommons hard and minimize the feelbad when you open junk rares. by spreading the value through the rarities. Instead it seems they had their Standard cash cow design mentality at full power: make the set as top heavy as possible, now with 10$ packs edition

Like Mesa Enchantress? This particular upshift in rarity makes more sense than most of the others.

Yes, Mother of Runes fits perfectly the rare slot for limited purposes...which should made us think if a set whose major intention is increase the availability of eternal staples should care about drafting like any other Standard set. In my humble opinion, it shouldn't, specially when there's no GPs like Modern Masters, but it seems that Wizards doesn't think the same.
I would have preferred she not be Rare, but there's really no other logical option for a set designed to be drafted. Yes, I'd rather Wizards stop designing sets like this for Limited to begin with, but if the worst Rare I might open so far is Call the Skybreakers, that's still better than the majority of what I got in Modern Masters 2015 or even most Standard booster products. At least I could trade Mother of Runes, as to opposed to yet another Lodestone Myr, All Suns' Dawn, Ant Queen, Chimeric Mass, Comet Storm, Etched Monstrosity, Guile, Hellkite Charter etc etc etc. And at least there's numerous Commons/Uncommons I'd love to have that I'll probably get a playset of just opening packs.
On another note, I absolutely love the new artwork.
The level of *****ing about rarity bumps in this set is absolutely ludicrous to me. The value in the set is insane. We are getting so many good cards already (Mana Crypt, Karakas, Wasteland come to mind immediately) We haven't even see a third of the set yet. If you think you're going to open a $10 dollar pack and get 30 dollars worth of singles EVERY time you're either naive or haven't been playing this game very long.

I also have a hunch the foil versions of most of these "junk rares" with new borders/art are going to be pretty pricey

Do you get salty opening a $4 pack of SOI and getting a bulk rare? It's all relative man. Atleast Mom is likely to get used.

RIP Magic Duels. Wizards will regret what they did to you.
You could, but not in Eternal Masters. 'Tis uncommon.

Yes, that was the point. Let's not forget there have been some downshifts as well...
