It'd be nice to be able to post information and not instantly be attacked. That's why I typically don't. It's not worth my time or efforts. So the discussion should be, what this new format may be and not my track record which is over 10-15 correct spoils and 1 fail. That's 92 percentile. Just sayin.
No Reserved List Legacy? New-Frame Modern (M15 onwards)? Not sure I like any of the ideas coming to mind...
An M15 onwards 'modern' would be pretty interesting. It would be completely different in deck make up to modern without having shocklands and enemy fetches along with a huge number of key cards. It would utterly kill affinity, infect, merfolk, scapeshift, tron, ad nauseam, storm and many other decks.
I like modern but the problem is there's very few cards each set that can actually fit into modern decks so removing 11 years of sets would be huge.
A legacy lite without RL cards doesn't sound appealing to me. The only logic would be for budget reasons but the legacy scene doesn't seem large enough to split up. At least with the modern cards it allows people who started in the last few years to take their old standard cards and make a competitive deck. Right now most modern decks are $800 right up to over 2k for jund. Sure it's nothing like the older formats but not everyone has $800 to drop on a deck.
depends, oblivionedone, if you are presenting this as strong conjecture or a true "spoiler". Strong conjecture is based on your knowledge of the game, insight into what wizards want to do, etc etc. a true "spoiler" would indicate direct knowledge of something that will happen, no questions asked.
Really, i prefer the former to the latter. anyone can receive a tip, but someone that loves the game and presents a very likely possibility has my respect while someone with advanced knowledge that shouldn't should, in my opinion, just keep his mouth shut and let wizards do the spoiling.
I mean the one he got wrong sees play more or as much as Shambling Vent so I'd still say his source was spot on for a strong man land. Everyone buy shocks now. You have a 95% chance not to regret it.

"The essence of every world, every spell and every thought is power. Nothing else matters, because nothing else exists."
I predict that everything in the Eternal Masters set will be legal in the new format, which means including some cards that are banned in current Legacy. Basically, without Reserved List cards, the power level of Legacy drops quite a bit, so there is room to bring in some cards that are banned in Legacy right now, like Balance. This might explain why Mana Drain did not get printed in EM.
What about a legacy with no reserved list and with a restricted list ? This gives sens to Eternal master... Box prices are just to high, 1 booster on 2 is just bulk in actual competitives format...
This is exactly what I think it is, assuming this is true. More Vintage Lite than Legacy Lite. I would probably dump Legacy for such a theoretical format, depending on the banned and restricted lists. Sol Ring FTW!

OO (can I call you OO?) you have been super legit, I think outside of the manland there was the UB Jace though, so that's still like 90%-95% on target. I can only speak for myself, but quite grateful. I do recall the powers that be saying there wasn't a new format coming, but they could have been just covering up to allay panic. Cheers.

Hope its no reserved list legacy. I'm building modern right now. And this guy is right, he told me about red/white nahiri and a ton of stuff from SOI, and didn't tell mtgs users because you guys rip on him every time he says anything, and nobody gives him credit

I think we would need a few more years before we get a "post-modern" format. Perhaps if they finished the Tangolands they might fill a void instead of shocks. It would certainly be interesting. But there definitely needs to be at least a couple more blocks to fill the card pool.
If true and if it is Reserved Listless Legacy (which seems like it would be the case based on the announcement being timed right with the release of Eternal Masters), then I foresee market disaster. There is no way IN HELL that the super short printed, expensive Eternal Masters will even begin to satisfy the demand for all of the new people who will want to jump into the format and give it a try. So if RLless Legacy is a thing, that would be a huge dick move by Wizards. Not to mention there would be a run on Shocks and Fetches and every other Legacy playable that doesn't get reprinted in this set by both players and speculators. I hope it's not true. If Wizards is going to create a format like that, they need to get their act together and do a REAL reprint set that's affordable and in enough supply that people will be able to buy in. Not this Masters crap that they keep doing.
I'd love to see a singleton format version of Legacy. Even keeping the reserve list, there would still be less demand for duals with only one of each allowed per deck. It would be like playing 60 card commander without a general.
I'm waiting for the "No-Mana-Fixing-Format" where Fetches/Shocks/Duals are banned and you have to use Evolving Wilds/Panoramas for fixing. Best format ever
If true, I really hope it isn't No Reserved List Legacy. I just don't see it being nearly as good of a format with shocks instead of true duals.
Just reprint the damn cards.
What if you lose duals, but gain access to singletons of cards like Sol Ring, Wheel of Fortune, Balance, etc? That would make it a vastly different format than Legacy.

Hmmm so it's about a new Modern rather. Sounds like a merge between Legacy minus RL and Modern so Shocks would become the "new duals."
Stay reasonable, be mindful of your expectations and don't feed the trolls.
Doomsdayin'
it's about time they try to solve the biggest mistake WotC ever done with this game... The Reserved List.
If they're not able to ignore the list, probably the next best thing would be just ban every single card on it and life goes on.
If anything, the end of Modern Pro Tours might be quite a indication that they're really planning on a new format.

Remember when Legacy got too expensive and WotC created Modern?
Maybe WotC is creating a new format because Modern got really expensive...
