Hahaha turtle powah! Nice speed bump in Limited and sweet on a foil Dualcaster!

The "Crazy One", playing casual magic and occasionally dipping his toes into regular play since 1994.
Currently focusing on Pre-Modern (Mono-Black Discard Control) and Modern (Azorious Control, Temur Rhinos).
Find me at the Wizard's Tower in Ottawa every second Saturday afternoons.
With Dualcaster Mage in this set, I'm sure we'l see Shardless Agent and Rishadan Port too even though they're judge promos.
Maybe Rishadan Port, but I don't think we will see Shardless Agent since it was a Judge foil (as you pointed out) and it will be part of Planechase Anthology.
(On Lantern Control)"A guy who literally just sits there and mills cards he doesn't like from your library while he slowly, slowly kills you this way."
"If a person's profile includes anime or My Little Pony, feel free to ignore everything they say."
Dualcaster must be supposed to excite Commander players who want it in foil. Though a foil promo of it already exists for like $20, so that doesn't really make much sense.
When I think of cards I love to crack in $10 MSRP boosters, my mind immediately jumps to dopey tortoises. Thanks Wizards!
Sarcasm? Are we really upset about a common? Considering Dualcaster Mage is only about $2 and sees little play in most constructed and casual formats I'm aware of I'd be way more upset about that taking a rare slot
When I think of cards I love to crack in $10 MSRP boosters, my mind immediately jumps to dopey tortoises. Thanks Wizards!
It's a common. Chill out.
Yeah, because rarity totally dictates viability within a given format. I'll be sure to write that down.
They can print any other card in this slot that has seen play in, let's see....the past TWO DECADES?
I wouldn't complain if this were in any non-special set. Guess what guys? This isn't spoiler for the new Standard rotation. This is a premium level product.
Total side note but I like how people are discussing running this over itself.
Well, it has to be said that Kolaghan is clearly better than Kolaghan. Considering what BR decks usually want and how stiff the competition in this guild is, there is no way that I would run Kolaghan over Kolaghan! Kolaghan might make it in as the sixth guild card or so. Kolaghan on the other hand ranks several places below that.
It was so funny to me when they described this as a downgrade to the original Zurgo during the Pax East panel. I was thinking if this is a downgrade, they should really "downgrade" all legendary creatures. Haha.
My deck designing is quite concise at this point:
1. Come up with deck idea
2. Realize this idea is somehow fundamentally similar to another deck I have or that is commonly played in my group
3. Decide I don't want to disassemble one of my existing decks
4. Give up and do nothing
I don't see the point of this new shroud mechanic. It's strictly worse than Hexproof. Threshold is pretty bad too, Delirium is a much better mechanic and probably easier to activate.
Otherwise this card is a pretty neat guy. Dodges removal and grows into a Primal Huntbeast. 3/5

This is obviously filler for draft decks. Maybe they're seeding a slower archetype that wants early blockers. This isn't in here for it's viability in any format other than EMA draft.

So out of every possible defensive low curve option in Blue....they pick this?
I'm sorry, this is simply not appropriate for a set of this caliber.

Sure it is. What? Does every card have to reach a certain dollar threshold before it is included? That's not only ridiculous, it's unrealistic. Especially if you expect a playable limited format; you can't have a good draft set when limiting yourself to only expensive cards.

Whenever someone claims to hate blue I automatically assume they're a bad player.
The fact that I stated aloud to myself "someone is going to use some obscure, extinct deck archetype they search for explicitly just to prove this statement wrong and feel validated" immediately after posting that really says a lot about this forum.
When I think of cards I love to crack in $10 MSRP boosters, my mind immediately jumps to dopey tortoises. Thanks Wizards!
Agree totally.
I'm surprised they didn't move it to uncommon.
There have got to be more relevant commons out there. C'mon Wizards, step it up.

Playing since 1994: Currently MAGS (HomeBrew),Standard & Pauper (Pioneer and Modern are degenerate trash formats)

I love people crying that we have a tortise common. WAAAAAH IT'S NOT A $493252997442 COMMON.... Seriously it;s a 2 mana 1/4 in limited. Sure, it's been outclassed as the control defender for a while, but it has history in ETERNAL formats, which is why it's in ETERNAL Masters. It's a good reprint, guys.
Erm... anyways. I hope we have some good targets for Dualcaster Mage. He wants to be the red Snapcaster so hard, but he's just not that good. Partially his 3 cost over 2. Chain Lightning or just Lightning Bolt would be a phenomenal hand-in-hand with him.

Which is exactly the problem with these sets, screw draft, this is a limited print run product that is supposed to help inject some life into eternal cardpools, it's shouldn't have to worry about draft as a format.
BINGO we have a winner!!!

Well, yeah. This is much too complicated to be legal in standard.
I don't understand the complaint here. What random early game blue blocker that costs enough to be worth putting in the boosters were you hoping for Wizards to print at common?
