This is why I could speculate this version gaining some value, by a few dollars. Limited print run rare with unique Terese Nielsen art has potential to increase, despite not being a really needed card.
Smart move making the set fun for drafting. At the same time, I like the strange cards that make strange decks like Goblin Charbelcher. Even though it won't have the same utility in a draft format, it will be fun pulling it and thinking, "I could make an obscure deck with this." That's part of the fun of drafting too.
I guess I was expecting to fill out a lot of my vintage decks, but they seem to be really trying to make Vintage playable with a small run of cards. I clap for the effort. I hope they release a few more spendy cards in the uncommon spots just to bring down the TCO for the game. I'll fill out some cards too.
Do you "really" believe this set will be drafted ?
Outside of a handfull of GrandPrix and other big tournaments ?
----
Who exactly is that kind of player that buys a box of this set and "drafts" with it ? (that would be 30$ drafts, while you can do 3 normal drafts)
I havent seen a "shop" that makes drafts with this set, especially not as FNM drafts.
----
But who knows, maybe there is an actual market for people that buy this product to draft with it.
The majority in my field of view just buys it to open value, nothing else.
Thats especially true, as people that pre-order these packs (which makes up allmost all the orders) are for a special price at the LGS, so for getting value isnt really difficult (even if you just buy it to resell).
My FLGS is holding drafts for $35 ($10/each + entry) and there were MM2 drafts all over the area when that came out. I have every intention of drafting this at least once and hopefully more. IMO supply drying up and egregiously hiked prices will be far more of an obstacle than people's desire.

Considering it's a once-every-other-year kind of product shops do run special events to draft Masters sets. There isn't demand (or supply) to draft them every week of course, but they do get drafted once or twice.
If people are buying to open them for value, why wouldn't they draft? I mean at that point you've paid for the box already, so you may as well get some friends together and draft it to get some entertainment before you resell/trade the cards. I get that not everyone does this, but I would bet a fair amount do.
This is exactly the sort of thing I want to see in EMA. Cool new art for an EDH staple. And it doesn't tank the value of anything I spent an ungodly amount of money on. And it's fun in limited.
It seems like this shouldn't be in the set at all. "Card that's worth nothing and is absurdly unbalanced in limited" does not seem like a good choice for a draftable reprint set.

One of our local stores specifically holds back a box or two for our area drafters.

Have to agree here. If they couldn't find a single better version of this effect to reprint at rare, then maybe it shouldn't be in the set. This wasn't the place to reprint a bulk Uncommon as a bulk Rare, not when you're selling this "premium" product for 3x normal booster price.

Cards are game pieces, and should be treated as such, easily replaceable.
Cards are not money, investments, or a retirement fund, and should never have been treated as such.
Wizards made a mistake caving to speculators once, and we still pay for that mistake 2 decades later.
"Entitled:" the entire ad hominem fallacy condensed into a single word. It doesn't strengthen your argument to attack motivations, it just makes you look like you don't understand the argument.

STOP using "dude/bro" as a pejorative or insult. Grow up.
Margaret Thatcher: “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.”
Benjamin Franklin: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
Martin Luther King Jr.: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
This product is just so confused about what it wants to be. It's clearly designed as a draft set, but the short print run, high MSRP, and flashy high priced Mythics that will push up the already high MSRP because people are stupid, makes the set terribly unsuited to draft.
If they really wanted foil Control Magic for some reason an FNM promo would have been fine.
If I open this, I hope it's foil. As far as I know it has never been foiled.
I've also wanted foils of this for the longest time,
but I was hoping for the previous art, which I think would really pop in foil.
Still, this new art is also really good.
I'm just not sure why they thought this needed new art and Worldgorger Dragon didn't...
In any case, whether this set ends up more like MM1 or MM2,
I'm pretty sure it's already given us more new art than both of those combined,
so at least they spent a little more making it than they did for MM2.

yeah this is fitting for rare, since its cheaper than Mind Control, which was already at uncommon. It fits, although being uncommon could be plausible, this set is already looking good (I'm going to hope to pull some Maze of Iths)
The foil will be a high $$$ card. Probably will end up $50+, as it's the only foil printing of a card that is in basically every cube. That adds real value to the set, as with foils in every pack people will end up with foil rares.
I understand WHY they wanted to put this card in the set - it's an opportunity to print it in foil for the first time ever, which is great - but this was not the place to do it. In fairness, Control Magic IS a difficult card to find a place where it can be printed in foil (Duel Decks, Standard sets, Commander sets all not an option), but the correct answer should have been a From the Vault, not Eternal Masters.
I'm kinda seeing this set as a "fixed Chronicles". It's their chance to put some nice power cards back into print but there are also some nice iconics being thrown in, like Balance and Control Magic. Since it's a booster lottery, this is a low-hanging fruit as well as limited concern and so on. I mean, I'd rather the Alpha/Beta art but I'm good with this.

Currently focusing on Pre-Modern (Mono-Black Discard Control) and Modern (Azorious Control, Temur Rhinos).
Find me at the Wizard's Tower in Ottawa every second Saturday afternoons.
Limited justifies why something cannot be uncommon. It never justifies why something should be rare. We should be getting underprinted ~4 dollar commander cards as the junk, not less than a dollar bookmarks.

Or they could just, you know, not print it in this set if that's the case.
They can just not waste a rare slot and print something else.
Costs the same amount for them to print a Mana Drain as it just a Control Magic. It's not like one costs more resources. Just saying.

i think by now, most enfranchised players are used to FTV products containing a good amount of chaff.
