I bought all 8 decks and got all the promos besides Tazeem. I don't want to buy this only for Tazeem, the dice and the Tokens... That is a waste of money for me
This was not the Planechase announcement I was looking for.
Here's hoping it will generate interest in another edition. It's a good way for players who missed out to get all the planes, but I just don't want it to be pointed to as a reason for not making any more if sales aren't good. I saw the duel deck anthology sit for a while and I figured that would be a better seller.
Are there any valuable cards from the 2012 PCH decks besides Shardless Agent? There were some fun reprints in the first set. I remeber enjoying the zombie one. I can't believe that Death Baron is almost as much as Shardless!
Yes! I can finally pass on something! I was reading the announcement, hoping that there was something there for those of us who already have all of the planes. But there isn't, and I'm actually relieved! Still kinda bummed that this isn't Planechase 2016. I really love playing Commander with Planechase.
Wait...does this mean The Æther Flues will be printed without the "Æ?"

Most PC 2012 are within the $3-$6 range, but the most expensive are Maelstrom Wanderer, Ghostly Prison, Kor Spiritdancer, and Sakashima's Student (along with Agent) that are over $10. After that there is a lot of cards in the price range I listed earlier, but it would be good to drop the prices of some of these a little bit.
The decks that probably need the printing the most is the 5 color cascade, U/B, and G/W and R/G. I forgot what the other one is, but the R/G one doesn't need to be there, but the other three could certainly use it. The cascade one alone is worth $70 or more in value at the moment.
I've been wanting a new planechase product for some time yet I have mixed feelings about this one. I've been ignoring all the times all the planes have appeared in one listing on eBay because the sellers would start with - you guessed it - $150 for all the planes and phenomenons. And most of them didn't include the promos. So WotC are probably basing their initial MSRP at what has been seen in eBay. Now, the set only includes the 2012 decks (which is OK because those are the ones with the more expensive cards). However, with all the pricey announcements so far, this is too pricey for what it is and if the price would be warranted, it should've also included the other decks from the first planechase. It's called anthology and includes all the large cards but only the last decks instead of the previous ones as well.
I'll probably buy it since I don't have any of the planes. The format receives no support whatsoever from WotC. And, as was stated before, WotC should've been releasing a small, inexpensive product, of plane cards showcasing various places in the current plane or a couple of cards from previous planes along with cards from new planes that will never be visited. That would be a way to keep the format fresh, just like with Commander. Hell, they could even add some new cards that haven't been printed just to add a little more to the eternal card pool.
My pod loved playing planechase and for lack of the plane cards used an app on a tablet that had them. So, worse comes to worse, no one would even need to buy this. And, if you're buying it just to resell the more expensive cards, you won't gain back enough lettuce to warrant shelling over so much cash just for the planes and some other cards you won't be using, sadly.
That's just my 2¢ on the matter. Will I buy it? Probably. Will I suffer from buyer's remorse afterwards? You betcha. Will I find enough people willing to play in this casual multiplayer format? Not likely. Thanks, Wizards!

I'd rather have just a set of the planes. Already got the decks I was interested in, but I could totally use more of the planar cards, and the only cheap sets online are in japanese, it seems.

And it will obviously drop in value as soon as there are many more of them on the market. You know... Supply & Demand. It is very often useless to value a product like that right before the same product hits the market in a larger supply.
how about instead of this ***** pile of a product you rethink your support for this product? maybe instead of a half assed released whenever you feel like it do something like a precon at the end of each block. include 8 planes that feature locations from that block, 1 old location, and 1 preview of the next block. then make two precons featuring themes from that block set to showcase how awesome it was. eliminate duel decks in favor of this. kill all the birds, with one stone.
This idea is awesome and I wish Wizards would support it.
At such a high price point, I don't think it will impact prices at all. Duel Deck Anthology didn't even lower prices for the original DD cards. Yes it is increasing the supply of cards, but it's also really expensive so you have to consider the opportunity cost of either buying this or singles. People buying this for $150 probably won't want to sell the cards, which would keep them off the market. When considering supply and demand you also have to consider the price of the product. The reason why so many Modern Masters cards hold value even after being reprinted is because the packs/boxes are so expensive.
Planechase isn't widely adored so these might gather dust on the shelves and possibly command lesser prices than MSRP in the end.
I found that not many people here had much interest in it at all when either versions were released. I was the only one who bought any of the Original. I'm gona buy it anyways just to play for fun since there's a more diverse crowd here now
I occasionally use the planar cards in conjunction with my cube to shake things up. Could probably do the same with EDH, just to keep things from getting too stale.
150$ MSRP means at least 200$ here in australia...I'll pass on this. shame cos it would have been fun to play with my mates

Just looked around in the UK and it's already available for preorder at £100. Not sure whether to wait and see if theprice drops as I already have a complete set of both planechase still sealed.
It is ******* hysterical to me that all the replies in this thread are *****ing about the price. Do you know what this stuff goes for? A set of just the 40 planes from 2012 routinely sells for $80 on ebay. Add the 4 decks from 2012 and it's over $200. The set of JUST the 86 planes is $175 and out of stock on SCG with no copies having been sold on ebay in the past several months, meaning they are genuinely hard to find.
Maybe we can do what, like 3 minutes of research before automatically complaining about everything?

It's maybe more a collector thing. The planes themselves have no value and I see people here who just play with proxies planes and phenomenon.
No value beyond the $175 for the full set of them, sure.

As somebody who has been enamored by Planechase since its first announcement for the 2009 release, as someone who has all 86 planes and phenomena, and as someone who wants to see more of this happen in short order, I am actually rather happy that they remembered Planechase at all. They need to be reminded now at this point that Planechase was hardly a failure, if that's even a word that could be spouted about it. Planechase was and still is super important for a lot of players. I don't think I would have ever started played EDH if not for Planechase, and by the same token I would not have gotten back into Magic if not for Planechase being the one thing I didn't sell off when I was purging myself of my cards (and I sold a Gaea's Cradle to that end!).
So I actually appreciate WotC doing this, if at least to help foster a larger playerbase among those who either don't know about it and might enjoy it, as well as those who weren't around for the original releases. As for myself, I'm keeping my planes and phenomena, even if I could sell them for more than the $150 MSRP of this release. I have a lot of feelings about my collection and they have sentimental value to me.
I hope others can understand in kind how important this variant is to the casual community, including those involved with EDH/Commander.
I also hope that this release opens the door for future releases; as one poster had mentioned, whose handle is eluding me right now, between blocks they should release a pack of 10 planes - 8 from the block they just did, 1 preview for the next block, and a throwback to an older place. I think that's good, but whittling the first bit to 5 and then making room for 1 more throwback as well as 2 additional designs, for planes that may not be developed (places like Arkhos or Mongseng, which eventually turned into Theros and Tarkit respectively).
I myself felt that WotC could 1-up that and release booster packs of oversized cards (vanguards, planes, phenomena and schemes, as well as oversized legendary creatures and maybe some new ideas as well), but then, selfishly, I felt dumb because that would take forever for me to collect in full (having all of those things save for oversized legendary creatures or new unfathomable things lol). I would absolutely buy into a block-consistent planechase release without randomization for sure, though.
As someone who doesn't own planes chase or know much about it other then my edh friends saying they never want to play it, what's the justification on the price tag exactly? Are there over 500 cards? Are they made of something special? Is this on some special mahogany wood board game?
