Is it just me, or is this "Announcement Day" method a horribly dull way to introduce products? "Oh, hey, here's the next block name. Oh, and the name of its second set. Oh, and commanders are 4-color. Also some Planechase stuff and a Duel Deck." No enthusiasm, only 1 art between all the stuff, no set symbols or previews, and way too much at once to really process? I'd be more hyped by a single one of these announcements in full than by this train of "meh".
On topic: 4-color should be interesting, really exited to see how they address the color pie identity of missing only a single color.
Well this is fun. Awkwardly colored cards for all!
I was thinking allied pairs would be the theme, but hats off for them trying something new (however silly).
Four Colored Commanders have been one of the highest demands to Wizards of the Coast since... at least 2012. This isn't just an experiment; it's filling in one of their longest running requests for the format.

I'm a little disappointed there not doing the allied color pairs this fall but I'm curious to see what they come up with. I always thought a great way to introduce "4 color commanders" would be when they returned to Ravnica and had legends with off color activated abilities of the other guilds similar to the Khans in Fate Reforged.

Probably there will be a focus on allied pairs and then splashed for an enemy and allied color for that allied pair, like Selesnya GW with an allied R (¿Naya?) and enemy B (¿Abzan?) so we have an RGWB commander.
My guess is allied color costs, enemy colored activated abilities. I hate those nephilim goons with their nonsense color-ambiguous abilities. Let's be real though- 4 color decks are just 5 color decks that are not reaching their full potential. You could probably just jam some of the off-color cards into the deck without changing the land base in any way. People just want what they don't have I guess.

There are no words for the anger, hate, and disappointment I feel at these being four-colored and not allied.
I was looking forward to nee dimir goodies, not them struggling to give an identity to what is essentially just the lack of a color. And without reprinting fetches and duals, the manabases are going to be so bad...and just, ugh.
Yeah, I'm not a fan of 4-colors, because when you get 4 colors of the pie chart, you basically cover up all color "flaws", so it looks so much alike a five color deck. For me they will play almost like a five-color deck, I really hope they do a great job at their abilities to be fun, but what I think can happen is.
Main commander being the 4-colored, and inside the deck, 10 new allied-colored legendary cards, which would make sense, since each 4 colored combination, has 3 combinations of allied pairs, so its easy to get two distinct for each pack.
Seems dumb. 4 color goodstuffs decks here we come.
If you want to do that just play 5 color...

Hopefully this means either some good land reprints (all of the M10/Innistrad checklands) and all Shocks. With the exception of a Shock or 2, none of those are too expensive. It's too much to expect Fetches. Precon's tend to have cruddy manabases and 4-color decks will definitely need some fixing. Or perhaps some new lands. It will suck if all we get are more Vivid and ETB Tapped with no abilities.

Absolutely. No art for anything but Kaladesh, no symbols to discuss, no preview card to get excited about...feels really dull. Also, the four colored Commander decks are bound to be overshadowed by the bigger announcements like Kaladesh block.
These lumped up announcements to future products are due to the trademarking process that WotC has to go through each year. If Wizards doesn't release this information to the public first, some lurkers looking through patent and trademark documents on the web would. That leaves a greater chance for misinformation about these products to spread and for player expectations to skew. As to why these early announcements are always so lackluster? If they overhype their future sets, ones which aren't even going to be released for months, the sets that are on shelves today won't sell as well. Now, I don't personally think that underrepresenting their future stuff is the best idea either, it's just that neither outcome seems like the easy choice for WotC to make.
I'm hoping they don't look like Alesha, Who Smiles at Death, or have any weird off color abilities. I always found those cards hard to look at and a little confusing as far as the identities go. I'm hoping for straight-up quad color legends. Despite being "Goodstuff", I think if they really separate the Commanders and give each deck a theme, it could work really well.
WUBR - Doesn't care about creatures or lands, probably an instant/sorcery or artifact/enchantment deck.
UBRG - Doesn't care about white, peace, or order; could have crazy effects or graveyard manipulation.
BRGW - No Blue, likely involves combat or graveyard synergy. Likes to punish players who wait?
RGWU - No black, so I could see this being the new "friends" commander and could be helpful to other players possibly.
GWUB - No red, so probably a lot of long term strategy like counters or tokens or something.
I'm excited for it. Just to have a deck of each color number.
Plus I'm excited to see the landbase and artifacts they make to support the change. yeah they won't be AMaZING, but for people like me who can't afford or didn't start playing when expensive lands came out, these kinds of opportunities make me happy.
honestly if they don't make these commanders all nephilim my inner child is going to be really hurt. those should have been legendary the first time around. but I am curious to see how they play up the flavor/identity of being 4 colors. I want to see 4 color decks that hate on the 5th color not being represented. I will be bored if we get 4 color goodstuff. just play 5 color and be superboy prime with no weaknesses. please wotc don't reprint enemy fetchlands here, that would be a very bad call imo.
I am very excited for the planechase anthology. I hated it the first few times I played it because I got screwed over by planar abilities but I was disappointed the cards were so hard to come by and now I have another shot at them. I could say the same for archenemy.
as for kaladesh, it was up there for me for most interesting world from magic origins with vryn being a close second. I would like to see some distancing from the origins 5, though. I know they are the face of magic but the multiverse is a big place and I think it would be really lame for Chandra: the homecoming instead of seeing some new/old planeswalkers showing up on kaladesh. that said, I REALLY want to see Chandra meet jaya.
I'm wondering if these might be tribal decks, or at least have strong tribal sub-themes--seems like one way to make four-color decks distinct.
I won't be surprised if something like this was the case. For example, I could see the WUBR deck be artifact based since it could include both esper and the new UR artifact cards.
