I suppose an alternative design could be an artifact creature with abilities that require certain colors of mana. Not sure I like that idea though since it makes the cards more wordy and prevents potential mostly 2-color builds. For me to want to play 4-color, I'd want to be able to play my commander whenever I wanted and then get a bonus when I reached all my colors.
I play Tajic as a near mono-white deck except for the few red cards I like. I wouldn't want to have to warp my mana base to get a 4-color creature into play before having fun. Unless they're all 8-mana game-changers and then meh.
Either way, I don't think they'll print any hybrid designs like that. I wish they'd do one as an experiment though. I think it would be neat to have a commander like that.
Well we get to see who the commanders are on the 20th
Because jimmy wan is telling who's causing the chaos in innistrad
And if I recall that dude is a immense commander player.
While that is definitely a possibility, I imagine that his preview, if any, will be the new legendary that is the big-bad behind all of the happenings in Innistrad that will be released in Eldritch Moon.

It dosen't matter if he love commander so much, hes not getting spoilers for a commander product six months ahead of its release date. He only going to be allowed to see spoilers for some of Eldritch Moon an thats it.

Because Shu Yun can only have Double Strike if you have Red or White Mana (Where Double Strike is natural). The Reforged Khans are all that way, the off color ability is keyed to the mana it costs. Like every other off color uncommon cycle ever. If all you have is islands, nobody is getting Double Strike.
Well yes, that's my point. They just did that in Reformed so I don't know how much mechanical room there would be for four colors that did something similar.

The reforged ones were done that way specifically to make them viable in both draft formats. I really doubt hybrid costs will be a big thing in 4-color Commander because they don't need the limitations. Giving each commander two abilities (one for each color) seems more likely than one ability (that has to tie to both colors so narrowly).
Well they probably made each deck have a solid four color legend i.e- RWBG Then a two color legend with hybrid activated abilities likeWU legend with a R/W activated ability and a U/B activated ability. That way its viable as a four color commander and as a two color commander if you don't want to use the other colors.
How interesting would it be if the 4-color commanders were hybrid costs that let you play them as a heavily 2-color deck if you wanted to?
Like a cost of 2(B/R)(B/R)(G/W)(G/W)
the strange outcome of this would be the layout. until now hybrid cards have the "calor-fade" layout between 2 colors and not the classic gold layout of multicolor, a card with more than one hybrid mana should go with a 3-4 color fade? or the gold one?
I'm still more inclined with 3 set of commander for each deck (like older commanders precon):
main commander with a classic 4 color cost like nephalim UBRG
secondary commander in 2 color casting with 2 off-color activated ability (like UB with G activated and R activated)
secondary commander in the opposite 2 color casting with off color hybrid triggered (like RG with a triggered Alesha-style)
This seems right, and I would enjoy this. But the colour pairs would have to be ally-center pair and enemy-edge pair. Or else they would all have ally hard cost.
Im calling it now, they will have great abilities but have a draw back reflective of their lack of color. Example would be RG trample 5/5 with WB: add firststrike and lifelink BUT it has the "if this creature is targeted with a spell or ability then you have to sac it" clause.

Yuck. With all the abilities in a game of commander, that would be a gross commander. Seems everyone has some sort of pinger in the games I play.

The only way I could see that being okay is if it had a Marath kind of thing where it get bonuses for each time it were recast or a Derevi kind of thing to circumvent the fact that it would die nearly every time you bring it out almost immediately.
(Not to stomp on your ideas or anything, OP.)
Tbh, I really don't want to see these be designed as two dual color combinations being mashed together like two halves of a PB&J. I really don't want them to be ha dled like Tarkirs clans were either. They may as well have been dual colors(which they ended up being) because the enemy color was so underrepresented it was sad.
To continue with the food metaphors, I feel that multicolor like this should be a gumbo, not a sandwich or a variety platter.
Unfortunately every try hard from Sacramento to Shanghai preaches from the top of their 27 lands + Mana Reflection that Tooth and Nail and Time Stretch are fine to play in the same turn but Armageddon is unfair.
What if they do a legendary creature with that colored phyrexian mana for each color except green (I know that in story red is the most defiant in New Phyrexia, but it makes more sense if it is artifact based, to let green off the team). Then again, you could cheat it in rather early at the cost of a chunk of life.
That's why he said "for an extra mana". You could, for instance, pay WUBR2 for Reaper King to make him a pseudo 4 color general.
Sure, but I don't see why that matters. You could do that for any color combination. It doesn't make him that color combination. Using that logic future Legendaries don't matter at all, we can just use Reaper King as the answer to all decks.

I would love to see Phyrexian, snow, and colorless( <> ) mana in hybrid costs, just to see them, just because.
It's a dubious prospect; the original Commander had the enemy-color cycle, but Commander 2013 established not every Commander product will include sub-commanders. Seeing as shards are just as important to quads as wedges, I doubt they'll want to show favoritism. I also doubt we'll be getting a lot of new tricolor cards in C16 as they can only be shared between two decks while dualcolor cards can be shared between three. That said, I hope to see at least a cycle of tricolor legend reprints, one for each trio.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.

4 hours in and no post of a shopped SnowRexian mana symbol?

On topic: What might be the chances of getting Wedge colored legends in these decks?
There's always a chance...
What I'm hoping is that Wizards does is a cycle of Legendary Creatures with four colors in their casting cost, and then a cycle of commanders where the four colors are spread through the cost and in the the abilities. I feel that if Wizards didn't manage at least one full cycle of commanders where all the colors were in the casting cost, then I'd be a bit disappointed, although I get it. Four color cards are so difficult when the color pie is so blurry around the edges after twenty years.

Im not sure I understand. Which deck in C13 did not have 3 tricolored commanders
1 - Four color legends with a second Four Color legend in the deck as an alternate commander. As this will likely be there best opportunity to print these cards, I'd kind of like to see them present us with two options each for each 4 color grouping in one go.
2 - Four color legends and 2 three color legendary creatures. This would give us a new commander in every shard and wedge at the end of they day.
Either way, I'll be excited to see how these go. The commander precons and have gotten (mostly) better and better with each iteration. This is a tall task and I'll be interested in if they can pull it off.

"Sub-commanders" refers to the cycle of enemy-colored legendary creatures included in the original Commander product.
Commander 2013 didn't include a similar cycle for ally pairs. Shard and/or wedge legends for C16 would be exercising the same concept, and while it's possible we might see tricolor legends, it's dubious as they've only done a sub-commander cycle once.
