Love the new art. Honestly didn't care for the composition of the original art relative to the frame, at all. Felt like more Eldrazi bizareness and didn't really stand out at all from a lot of the art in the rest of the set.
The new art is cool! Too often it seems that the artists for both the regular and the promo were given the same description, and the picture deemed better was chosen for the actual set, while the subjectively worse one was chosen for the promo. This time, the art is COMPLETELY different, and I really like that!
Eh..........Where is my promo Inquisition of Kozilek ? There are plenty of over priced uncommon they could promo that people would chase after. It would have fit right in with the lack of it in the actual Return to Zendikar block.
IoK will never be reprinted because it's a card they'e "willing and able to reprint", and the possibility of a reprint is more valuable for their corporate than a reprint itself.

Some Eldrazi waving his hands around against this guy being literally contorted in space. The legs in the background and the awkward angles of his body give such a better visual of what this card is supposed to do to little creatures.

Art is all up to interpretation I suppose. I thought it was very clear that the original art shows a distorting effect on creatures, personally.
My friend and I were actually having a conversation about potential FNM promos from Oath of the Gatewatch a couple months ago. We were discussing playable uncommons that show off the theme of the set, and I said "They're probably going to give out Spatial Contortion in July."
My friend replied, "Why not Warping Wail? It's a much better card."
I looked at him and flatly stated, "Yes, it is. And that's why they're going to give us Spatial Contortion."
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.

And the moment they decide to do that, it will be one month before I top 4/8 again. My LGS is out to bfe and I take public transportation which for some god awful reason stops around midnight. The only way I get to top 4/8 is either I have a ride or we split. No one split the month PtE was the promo, and that's about a fourth or fifth the cost of an IoK.
Also, FNM promos, now with Marvel Characters! (Reed Richards anybody?)

After may's Goblin Warchief and June's Sylvan Scrying, this feels a bit...less impressive.

It's fine I guess, why not Warping Wail?
(Also known as Xenphire)

but as already said, this should have been Warping Wail,
and now we probably won't get that

Feels like a weird version of Warped Devotion
As a practicioner of submission grappling, I'd love to know what submission hold that is. Eldrazi Spinal Lock?

I'd call it the Displacer. Still not enough to make John Cena tap out, though.
