Highlander is a competitive duel format, where each card is allowed only once, with a minimum of 100 cards for a deck and no sideboard. Essentially all printed, tournament legal Magic cards produced by Wizards of the Coast can be used in deck construction, with exception of cards on the ban list mentioned above.
I think the difference is that you don't have a commander in this format and can be any colors you like whereas duel commander lets you have a commander but be restricted to just those colors. Singleton too naturally.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
There are three main non - commander hi lander formats that I am aware of. This one (German or European highlander ), Canadian highlander and australian highlander.
German is hundred card, extensive banned list legacy.
Canadian and australian use, instead of a banned list, a points list.
On a points list, a bunch of cards (tutors, moxen, ancestral, etc) are assigned a number of points and you can only play N points.
(So if you have seven points, and ancestral is 4,moxes are 2 each and then force, drain, dig, cruise, jtms are 1 one each, you could play ancestral, force, dig, cruise but no moxes and no jace)
Australian is 60 cards with sideboard, Canadian 100 no sideboard.
This format really could have a forum in here! In Finland and Germany the 'gerlander' is really a thing. Is it also quite fun to play and well designed format.
So, what would we need to do to actually start discussing the format in these forums? I'm a huge fan (also, we call it German highlander where I'm from), but I only take part in a small playgroup, so I'd love to have more people to discuss the format with.
