Burnished Hart had a much higher ceiling than the scarecrow will ever have, because when your opponent had a slow start ramping for two lands is amazing, but against proper Limited decks with a 2-drop into 3-drop having a body on the field and an activation cost of 1 less really offsets the impact of ramping for 2, as you often could do very little with the last max 1 mana available on turn 4. Also comparing bodies, the 2/2 body was always awkward in the long game decks that wanted the effect.
I think we're saying the same thing, but just to clarify (for those not checking the spoiler), the actual activation cost of Wild-Field Scarecrow is 2.
I was trying to explain how you were mostly correct so yes I think so
Not really, but Cryptolith Rite shows that the cryptoliths could act as mana amplifiers of sorts, and Grotesque Mutation shows an arm that definitely looks eldrazified to me. I think the cryptoliths are being used to amplify and reroute mana to the Drownyard Temple in order to awaken something there that may in turn release so much mana that Emrakul will be compelled to come to Innistrad and check it out personally. Kinda like Kane's plan in Command & Conquer 3, tricking the GDI into firing their Ion Cannon at the temple of NOD, and then the ensuing liquid Tiberium explosion lured the Scrin invaders to Earth.
Oh, and before I forget *cue well-known music*.....GEISTBLASTERS!!
Skin Invasion seems like it could almost be a little too good.
It may be this set's Delver, though I don't know how playable it is in Modern or Legacy.
I have no idea about Modern or Legacy but I think Skin Invasion is going to make some waves, it's an insane anti-sweeper card, and it makes killing any weenie creature enchanted with it a doubtful proposition.
My earliest conclusion from looking at the spoiler as a whole is that Delirium is going to be much more decisive and widespread than we may have expected, there are no graveyard nukes or controllers, eatersor punishers , not even all-purpose pinpoint elimination. Non-creature cards are going to stay in the yard triggering Delirium in all certainty, so keeping opponents off Delirium isn't going to be so feasible, maybe Mindwrack Demon will turn out to be decent after all...what a missed opportunity, imagine keeping your opponent off Delirium with a Withered Wretch reprint =)
There is one pin-point removal card, albeit at sorcery speed and 2 mana: Not Forgotten
Also the Cult is interesting with non human transformation creatures like the Vampire. So you get a wolf token each time.
Also what do you mean with VtM?
Vampire: the Masquerade game.
Also Grotesque Mutation does freak me out each time I see this card.
Sure. Looks like Kiseijuu or Vampire Hunter D anime.
For Moldgraf Scavenger what creature type did you suspected? I thought it would be an Horror.
I want the Nahiri for my collection and other than that the only card I care about is the 1cmc dispel for sorceries.
Pretty lame set for my taste. The flavor way overdid the cards that came along. Most things don't fit and a lot of stuff is not really meaningful to the story-telling either way.
Also, there is an unusually low amount of reprints, is it not? Reckless Scholar, Lightning Axe, Unruly Mob, Groundkeeper, Macabre Waltz, Catalog,Punishing light - anything more?
So... Merrow, Rite and Laboratory Maniac? seems like one of the silliest casual decks ever.
The whole combo costs 3GU(W/U)(W/U) in three cards and it's not crazy to imagine it going off on turn three, so... I think it's pretty kitchen table viable.
Actually...
T1: Land, Merrow
T2: Land, Rite, grind until Maniac is on top
T3: Draw the Maniac, play him (don't even need the third land drop since you can tap the Merrow for mana)
T4: Grind your deck out during your upkeep if all the pieces are still in play
...Seems pretty reliable, honestly.
That's it, I'm building this. Although Puresight Merrow comes down turn 2; ideally you'd drop mana dorks on both turn 1 and 2 so the Rite and the Maniac could both hit on turn 3.
Seems very much like a glass cannon. I'd suggest Dispel or Silence to protect Laboratory maniac from removal after you've exiled your library in your upkeep.
I doubt that the power of mana ramp in Standard will be this low forever. We've had a period of excellent mana acceleration for a while, and now the pendulum is swinging in the other direction for a while. Powerful ramp decks in Standard will step out of the spotlight once the Eldrazi ramp deck rotates out, but it's not an archetype that will be dead forever.
Yea it will rotate out
But watch In a few sets latter the eldrazis get reprinted for standard again.
This is just as bad a set for constructed as Battle for Zendikar was. Wizards these days is just hiding behind the flavor. You're all being blinded by some lame investigating story. The cards are low powered and uninteresting. And this time there aren't even any expeditions to buy packs for. Innistrad draft was fun because you had cool archetypes like Burning Vengeance and Spider Spawning. There's nothing like that in this set. Stop being such fanboys and wake up and realize the crap set you have all been served. Oh and blue is complete trash. Like actual hot flaming garbage. There's also a lot of really weak versions of previous Innistrad cards. An aura that is so bad to honor Geist of Saint Traft. A really horrible Delver of Secrets. What a bad bad bad bad set
Hot damnGeier Reach Bandit, that card is AWESOME. 3/2 Haste for 2R is great, but the ability of skipping the transformation of all other Werewolves? Yeah, that's simply amazing. There we go, Werewolf players. If that doesn't makes Werewolf playables, I don't know what will.
Im 28 years old, a husband, and a father of an 11 month old son....and i jumped up and giggled like a little girl when i read this card

The set is fine. Not every set is going to be as high powered as SoM, Inn or Zendikar - and that's fine. Everyone seems to be at least somewhat excited, so I feel you're in the minority here.
I am uncertain why anyone would be excited over Weirding Wood given that almost no one ever used Sheltered Aerie. Then again, Standard in two weeks won't be where Standard has been for the past year so the environment will be completely different.
I really want to put the Haunted Cloak on the Wolf of Devil's Breach with Stensia Masquerade just to watch them get upset over me playing "the worst mythic ever printed". How they deal with the 5/5 first strike trample wolf will be their problem.
Just what the heck is going on with Gryff's Boon? Is that really a swan head on an elongated, out-of-proportion, pegasus body? That actually looks more creepy than the cards that are meant to have creepy art....
Hooray for Loam Dryad, the only dryad horror in all of Magic.

are you trolling or did you just miss the first 150 cards spoiled? that contained what is probably the most powerful set we have seen in years?... This standard format is going to be a format where you will die on turn 4-5 if you don't draw interaction... Alot better than the 4 color rally format we just had.

Well, Weirding Wood comes with a free clue, so it arguably replaces itself ("arguably" because you need to pay an extra 2 to make use of the clue).
As for Gryff's Boon, that's supposed to be a heron head. They're the local version of hippogryphs.
You have a point. The investigate mechanic is pretty interesting but I probably was going to mostly ignore it until I find better ways of making the artifacts matter aside from mom & pop. I know that Parallel Lives and Paradox Haze will let you tutor every turn via Tamiyo's Journal in Modern. I suppose Ensoul Artifact could make it so that instead of finding Clues that Miss Scarlet did it in the Billiard Room with the knife, the Clue itself did it to you.
Now that you mention it, that does look more like a heron head. It's still weird...but that could just be me.
I honestly don't even think this card is as big a clue as Paranoid Parish-Blade just because of the stylistic differences because of artists... but yeah. This combines the lattice AND the tentacles I suppose.
Also, "bear trap launcher" was exactly my first though too, and I hope that's what it is because that's absolutely hilarious.

They didn't care that he was the savior of Fort Keff, the great hunter of Ondu, the champion of Kabira. To them, he was just another piece of flesh, a thing with life to be drained away.
But the people behind the barrier knew.

No
But Grotesque Mutation is a big clue
If you don't understand I will show the answer
I was trying to explain how you were mostly correct so yes I think so
Oh, and before I forget *cue well-known music*.....GEISTBLASTERS!!

My thoughts exactly. Hoping for this as a reprint
Standard - Some kind of control
Modern - UB Mill (casual)
EDH - Meren's Grave Shenanigans
Vampire: the Masquerade game.
Sure. Looks like Kiseijuu or Vampire Hunter D anime.
Eldrazi Spawn of course.
Pretty lame set for my taste. The flavor way overdid the cards that came along. Most things don't fit and a lot of stuff is not really meaningful to the story-telling either way.
It does block though which is important.
There's more than that. Here are the ones I found:
Puncturing Light, Unruly Mob, Catalog, Ghostly Wings, Reckless Scholar, Dead Weight, Macabre Waltz, Throttle, Fiery Temper, Lightning Axe, Mad Prophet, Magmatic Chasm, Tormenting Voice, Gloomwidow, Groundskeeper.
(edit: missed Macabre Waltz)
That card seems like a tease, I mean, they didn't even give it flavor text!
Seems very much like a glass cannon. I'd suggest Dispel or Silence to protect Laboratory maniac from removal after you've exiled your library in your upkeep.

Looks very Emrakul-ish.

Not that she needs it, of course, but the Jhessian Thief likes using the Skeleton Key.

It kinda looks like a giant crossbow with what looks like a bear-trap at the end?
BEAR TRAP LAUNCHER?!
EDIT: I mean, a folded giant crossbow. Since it has two hinges on it's side towards one end.
Special thanks to XenoNinja of Heroes of the Plane Studios for the awesome avy!
